Robert Warnock

I'm not sure what everyone is getting all "horned up" over this guy. What i've seen of him, doesn't do much for me. Can anyone say right now 'i've seen him play, and he will be a) a champion for the club. B) a good servicable player. c) a waste of a draft pick/trade. Total dud. Help me out please.

He's a tap ruckman whos not going to rack up possesions and kick goals. Remember,he was right under our nose playing for sandy with jamar and we stuck with jamar. Whats everyone so excited about?

Think you'll find thats another instance of "Danniher blindness".. Neale constantly refused to let some players get much of a chance whilst persisting in mediocrity. Stangely Bailey has a different outlook ( thankgod ) and aloows oportunities for development.

PJ may not be the answer.. Jamar definitely isnt

............................................ I am actually hoping Spencer kicks on in the next year or so.

Bails briefly mentioned the value of the rookie list at the aftermatch function on Sunday, and indicated that a three of our current batch of rookies had really caught the eye this year. Obviously the third is Spencer.

That would appear correct. I think Zomer would be lucky to get another year. Spencer from reports I trust has come along well this year. No reason why he would not be rookied again.

Daniher had White who up to 2004 was a good ruckman. I think adage about players earning their chance is apt. Neither PJ nor Jamar have shown they are up to the standard and the concerns were there early on. And these concerns from their early stints under Daniher have been highlighted Bailey has been forced to play Jamar/PJ because White is finished. Its why we punted on Meesen (Good God!) last year and why we are going all out to get Warnock. We need a competent and capable ruckman. Neither of PJ or Jamar are that.

If we get Warnock, we need to trade either Jamar or PJ. And it wont be a matter of which we can keep but who we could possibly trade this year.

The Mfc Footy Department will be on the move as soon as that trade bell rings, they will be heading straight to the Freo room with Connolly knocking down the door. It will either be a real long week or Freo will bend over.

I agree either Jamar or PJ will be needed to be traded if Warnock is secured - or at least guaranteed of going through to the PSD to be picked up with PSD 1.

IMO with Jamar having been there 6 years and the preferred candidate for Rucking at the Centre Bounce (ie Ruck No.1); and PJ playing the forward option, and the word being that Melbourne are giving the opportunity for Warnock to be the No.1 ruck spot. I think Jamar will be the one that will be put up for trade ahead of PJ.

On the flipside, if Melbourne misses out on getting Warnock and he goes elsewhere (ie Carlton - courtesy of Pratt). The Dees will go after Naitanui in the draft.

Both PJ and Jamar are contracted for 2009. They wont go to the PSD unless we pay them out.

Neither PJ nor Jamar provide a forward option. If we get Warnock, it will not be matter of which one of PJ or Jamar we wont to keep but who we can actually trade. IMO PJ will be of more interest to other Clubs than Jamar as I hoping his nice to have skills camouflage his shortcomings in critical areas to another Club.

We need a competitive and competent AFL ruckman now. Niknat wont fill that role for 3 years. There is no evidence to suggest that if MFC miss out on Warnock (either trade or PSD) that we would by pass Watts and Rich to get Niknat. Depending on how the Club views Spencer's development they may not see Niknat as a No 1 draft pick.

Shock, horror, I agree with you 100%.

On the proviso that we secure Warnock, I'd trade PJ at a heartbeat. He'll attract greater interest from other clubs than Jamar, purely for his athleticism. Despite his physical qualities, I don't see him as a viable forward option, and he has more shortcomings as a ruckman than Jamar. And boy does Jamar have some shortcomings!!!!

If we don't secure Warnock, I doubt that we'll pass up on Watts or Rich, and pick Niknat. Most clubs have 4 ruckmen on their list, yet only 2 get a regular senior game. There's always young ruckmen at other clubs looking for a regular game, and looking to be traded. Remember John Meesen last year. :( Three of the top 4 sides obtained their no. 1 ruckman via trades.

PJ is not a bona fide tap ruckman, nor is Jamar although he is better at being one. PJ is a top notch 2nd ruckman in that he can fill in in the ruck and provide options around the ground with his size and ball skills. Therefore PJ has much better trade value than Jamar. Despite that, I would not like to see him traded. Jamar has little trade value and I don't think he will be traded.

I would expect them both to be at the club next year with PJ being the first-choice second ruck to, hopefully, R Warnock. Jamar will be backup at Casey where, again hopefully, Spencer will overtake him.

Maybe I wasn't clear here - apologies. Either will need to be traded IMO, not specifically this trade period approaching.

Warnock if not secured through the draft -then the PSD with PSDno.1.

Yes. Perhaps the 2009 trade period.

If PJ was a top notch 2nd ruckman, he's be a first ruckman. He plays 2nd fiddle to a another ruckman who does not have trade value. I hope but am not sure other Clubs will pay heavily for a 200cm utility than cant ruck.

it says he is currently in melbourne with family deciding..would rather him be here deciding than over there.

fingers crossed- surely his brother would try and get him over the line, and the chance to play on the g every second week

Shame there wouldn't be anyone there to watch him.

are you a freo supporter?

it could be worse. he could be playing in sydney everyweek.

Sounds to me like he's getting very expensive, I do see a lot of upside but it's still early to be paying him big bucks.

at the every least we will have forced freo to pay him a lot more than they will have otherwise.

I love that at 21 and with barely any experience, this kid has the luxury of choosing his next club... shades of Judd :P

What makes someone troll?

I don't get it at all.

Is it low self-esteem? A desire to be the centre of attention? Or maybe it is the erroneous belief that your opinion is unchallengeable and a 'truth' that just has to be heard?

Just get off the computer, go ouside, look up at the stars, take a breath, and try and do more with your life.

it is kinda funny, because i know that we are a rabble at the moment, but freo is a basket case of a club, with no history, they are considering changin their own colours jumper and theme song because they are crap, and they can't win a game of footy either, let alone a finals match.

i spose kicking us atm makes them feel a little better. freo2008, what does shane richmond have to say about the whole robbie warnock thing?

They have 40,000+ members and making $millions annually.

Its a pretty good basket IMO.

What is that saying about glass houses?

If we miss out on Warnock I will headbutt my desk until I pass out.

Who are we going to miss out on next year?!? I can't take this [censored].

they have had a handful of years of off field success amongst their overall mediocre history. they are a basketcase on the field, and have been since their beginings.

If we compared their lack of success over their history with MFC's over the same period of time and took into account the current dispositions of the Clubs, I know which profile I would prefer.

I am not sure why you are so critical of them. I think MFC would bottom out or close to on most meaningful metrics of success on and off the ground.

it could be worse. he could be playing in sydney everyweek.

 True.

  • PREVIEW: North Melbourne

Can you believe it? After a long period of years over which Melbourne has dominated in matches against North Melbourne, the Demons are looking down the barrel at two defeats at the hands of the Kangaroos in the same season. And if that eventuates, it will come hot on the heels of an identical result against the Gold Coast Suns. How have the might fallen? There is a slight difference in that North Melbourne are not yet in the same place as Gold Coast. Like Melbourne, they are currently situated in the lower half of the ladder and though they did achieve a significant upset when the teams met earlier in the season, their subsequent form has been equally unimpressive and inconsistent.

  • REPORT: Adelaide

The atmosphere at the Melbourne Football Club at the beginning of the season was aspirational following an injury-plagued year in 2024. Coach Simon Goodwin had lofty expectations with the return of key players, the anticipated improvement from a maturing group with a few years of experience under their belts, and some exceptional young talent also joining the ranks. All of that went by the wayside as the team failed to click into action early on. It rallied briefly with a new strategy but has fallen again with five more  consecutive defeats.
