We still have to pay 92.5% of our salary cap more than likely no White, Yze, Holland, Neitz and the promotion of Robbo and McDonald to veteran status will create 1-1.3million replace them with 6 18yo-21yo thats a big saving plus the salery cap goes up next year. If we don't pay Green 350-500K we would struggle to hit 92.5% and no other club would offer Brad anymore than that.

Yep. Ideally, we'd front-end his contract, giving him a fatter amount next year and thinning out after that when some of the kids start to command more money.

Green's an important part of the club. You need older players who lead by example on and off the field. You can't just have a list entirely comprised of kids.

Murphy is useless and Mundy is no longer required given our backline looks its healthiest in years and years.

I am not saying we target these two nor suggesting that we get rid of Brad. I am only throwing up the hypothetical scenario.

Sure. Nothing wrong with throwing up these scenario's. B)

OK, would you take 25 ?

Probably not, but it's also unlikely that would be offered as it would be a bottom 8 side that starts with that pick (11th I think). If Green goes, I would expect it to be to a top 8 side.

Our third round pick (35ish) would probably come into play as Green plus 35 for something around 12-16 would be a very good deal for us.

Both views really depend upon the perception of how strong the draft is around those points.

FWIW, I doubt we'll use our third round ND pick anyway, particularly if we get something else in the top 25.

Sides such as Collingwood and Sydney will be in the market for a trade such as Brad Green - if Melbourne put him on the table. With Didak supposedly on the way out. Collingwood has been rumoured to be putting their "feelers out" for players such as J.Brown, B.Rutten. If they can't land the big fish in Brown, they will be looking elsewhere. Sydney can spend and have a history of recycled players which have more often than not kicked on in Sydney. O'Loughlin and Hall's days with Sydney appear numbered.

Depending where the two sides finish the season - which could result in them having picks anywhere from 11 up to 15. Just speculating but it could be say Pick 12 for Green and pick 35.

On the same wavelength Kit.

Should Brad go I concur it will be in a less than straightforward trade such as Kit suggests. Depending on where he might attract interest will effect what the sweetener is...and overall result. One thing for sure it wil be another interesting trade period, not only for its stauts as one of the last level field events for a few years but also with new board and positble "directions" given.

Id be dead curious to know just how much is the stumbling block. of course..it might just be the fun and games of renegotiating. You would have to think this is Brads last BIG money contract. He's more than entitled to get what he can.. of course the club is bound to contain costs..especially with a lower sal cap imposed.

If you carefully read the post that I was responding to you just might get the gag.

Has a player ever won a B&F and then left the club??

A draft pick any less than 20 for Green is unacceptable IMO.

Straight through to the keeper!

Given that from all reports (incl. today's Age) the quality of our new administration is the best it's been for a long long time I'd doubt very much whether Brad Green will be receiving a large salary. He's an average to good older player in a young starting out side. He'll be the wrong side of 30 when we start to compete again. I'd rate his year's previous to this as fairly Melbourne like of those times. Meaning good at times but when it really really mattered, we lost! and often badly. Surely at the moment a top 20 pick would see him out the door. I'm no hard arse but this club needs to stop accepting mediocrity. I just want to see them win a flag. That's not going to happen unless the club makes some smart and calculating calls. A good call is another top 20 draft pick. Brad Green may just give us that.

Whilst I used the word BIG.. I only really infered,in realtion to him. He's looking at it from a work place poin tof view..and needs to strike while his iron is hot ( well..very warm..lol ) . He might find himslef doing so at possibly the wrong time as some suggest its no holes barred at present..Its all about tomorrow..

Id be happy to consider a decent ofer for Brad..there is the notion that we cant trade all of our better blokes. But the real question is who amongst our lot wil really interest others.. Brad fill the bill. So would Jared.. but as others poit out his coin is devalued by his fitness ( as indeed it is to us aswell!! )

We have to get the best bods assembled to coalesce in say 3-5 years.. next year is also a building block..

As many allude...hard decisions ahead !!

You would be nuts not to use your 3rd pick (35ish) and call PASS.

While i wouldn't be actively trading Green, if the deal comes up for 15-20 range, I'll take that.

Anything below that, I'll be having a closer look at how deep the draft goes.

If we get another pick in the top 25, then we would have 4 ND picks before the third round plus pick 1 in the PSD. Include uplifting Wona and that means getting rid of 6 players.

Assuming Neitz, White, Holland, Yze & Weetra plus one more and you have 6. There may be more but depending on contracts, there is no guarantee there will be.

West Coast last year had 4 picks in the ND - 3, 13, 20 & 22 and one in the PSD. It doesn't mean you pass at 35, it just means you actively look at combining it with something (someone) else to trade it upwards.

ie. For arguments sake, Jamar and 35 for Carlton's pick 24

That could be done. Good point Redleg. What are the age's of Murphy and Mundy incidently? 22-23 aren't they?

We'll probably get some poster who thinks he/she knows it all saying their useless or something....but you're just throwing up a hypothetical scenario I know.

Do we want a bunch of ex Shockers at our club?? They worry me even more concerning Fragility than this Great Club..Green is a good solid player who i would like to see stay but if he is asking too much money the club must be tough on this.

Interesting Times await......

Ok, we have no idea what he is asking, nor do we have any idea what the club is actually offering, so lets not through taint on the guy just yet shall we.

And I still maintain that we will not see a draft pick under 25 for any of our players, especially not with the restrictions coming up.

I think you're being a little precious - the suggestion that if a player is asking for too much the Club must be tough is hardly tainting the players.

No you are being a little judgemental.......

There seems to be a sense that he is automatically asking for too much and frankly we have no idea what is going on.

While that might be true of some, the comment you responded to didn't imply that Green was asking for too much, and thus didn't 'taint' him.

Fair enough but I had read that belief more than a few times, and that was just the last one I got to before having to say something......

Should I now apologise ;) ?!!!

    THE BLOW by Whispering Jack

Narrm’s finals prospects took a crushing blow after the team’s insipid performance at Optus Stadium against a confident Waaljit Marawar in the first of its Doug Nicholls Round outings for 2024.  I use the description “crushing blow” advisedly because, although the season is not yet at it’s halfway mark, the Demons have now failed abysmally in two of their games against teams currently occupying bottom eight places on the ladder.  The manner in which these losing games were played out w

HALF FULL by KC from Casey

It was a case of the Casey Demons going into a game with a glass half full in their match up against the Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields on Saturday. As the list of injured and unavailable AFL and VFL listed players continues to grow and with Melbourne taking all three emergencies to Perth for the weekend on a “just in case” basis, its little brother was always destined to struggle. Casey was left with only eight AFL listed players from who to select their team but only two - an out-of-form

It's Game Day and the Demons have returned to the site of their drought breaking Premiership to take on the West Coast Eagles in what could very well be a danger game for Narrm at Optus Stadium. A win and a percentage boost will keep the Dees in top four contention whilst a loss will cast doubt on the Dees flag credentials and bring them back to the pack fighting for a spot in the 8 as we fast approach the halfway point of the season.

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had
