Sadly it was the First thing i thought when i read the Article. Col is forever going to be in & out of the side i fear. Hope I am Wrong. Midfielder with a weak Core doesn't sound good to me-Fragile more like it...

Strangely enough..yes I did read it..and I am quite capable of deducing what its really saying other than what some might think it says. Again.. he hasnt a body capable of week in week out sustained performance at the elite level. Can you get you head around that ?? He may play well here and there...oh..goody !! I get all chubby about that !! ffs !! He knows that he's battling to get it right, with no assurances..but thats OK..we'll just keep on shovelling money his way ..in the hope that he may get a few games togehter ..every now and then !! All the while someone else with better prospects and more able a body could be on the list developing.

Can some people see that this is NOT how you want to run a team . You will have to manage some injuries for sure..but you want that to be a players status as the exception, not the norm !!

We arent made of money at Melb..we have to extract every last morsel of ability and achievement out of a list for the money we have to throw at one. To do anything else is reckless and foolhardy.

But he just needs a full pre-season !

Needs a huge pre-season. Alot of things to work on such as endurance, speed and general fitness. He's got about the endurance of a 63 year old Turtle at the moment.

Dude, I'm sorry but the point of the article was not "Colin Sylvia hasn't got a body that's capable of week in week out performance." Rather it was "Colin Sylvia has not been training in a way that addresses his weaknesses, but is now doing so." Since you've read the piece, I'm sure you remember how it mentioned that since he has been working on his weak core, Colin has been able to notch up his longest consecutive games streak. This would suggest to me that he's developing in the way that we want him to.

The fact is that Colin Sylvia has great potential, is under the magical 24 years of age that we're looking for and is in a career best position regarding his fitness. But that's only my opinion.

Just reporting what mates from footy have told me

What most people overlook with Sylvia is his lack of footy nous. He just doesn't have a great footy brain. Yes there's undoubted ability, but Addam Maric has shown in 2 games how much smarter a footballer he is. Maric made decisions in his second game of footy that Sylvia is incapabale of in over 60. It's one of the main reasons he'll never be a star and why he'll never reap much in a trade. He is what he is, and that's 'handy' at best.

aww shucks Hannabal.. I thought we were just sticking to Col's fitness ...now you gone and opened up the can labeled " rest of shortcomings " One way or another Sylvias greatest problems occur between his ears, his fitness is just the start of it all. His actions are the finish. Do we really aspire to having only handy at best players ?

Collectively Sylvia has failed to produce because of; his injuries, the pressure of pic 3, a lack of footy smarts, not enough guts, too much partying, arrogance, selfishness, a dislocated set up in our team structure, chosing the wrong hair dye every second sunday and/or putting in but not doing enough.

Isn't it time we all realized that if he doesn't do something ASAP (if it's not already too late) then he will not be wearing the Red and Blue beyond '09 ('08). He may become a good footy player, but without the proper attitude/application i can't see it happening at the Melbourne Footy Club and as such his time is nearing

Easy tiger. I've heard alot of critical posts on SYlvia, but that's the first that focus' on Sylvia's hair colour relating to his performance

Sometimes clubs have the responsibility in relation to attitude. That's one thing. Once the body is sound, let's analyse application then. He's spoken about his determination to improve. He's 22, cut the guy some slack IMO.

I think Col will be a good player. Something about him just suggests to me that he will one day be the key to our midfield. Late bloomer but has had a shocking run with injuries. A fully fit pre season and i think he will kick 40 next season
