Or maybe he just believes that Collingwood should always (22 games) be the home side and therefore keep the gate receipts.

Yep in the collingwood cosmos, every game's a home game for them, every gate receipt is theirs (or else we're thieves), and every jumper clash is resolved by anyone but collingwood changing their jumper.

Pricks!

On the Collingwood thing, I'm sure it was just for show.

However, we do score $500K from each QB game, as we're always taking the gate - wouldn't want to upset that applecart.

Just to get the QB clash in perspective... Collingwood do not "give" us the gate as a matter of generosity. I'm not saying I am not happy to be getting that gate twice as often as we would otherwise get it, but the ONLY reason Coll gives us the gate is because it is in their interests to do so. They do not need the money, so by allocating home games against sides whose home is the MCG, they get 11 home games + all the other games at home. That's the ONLY reason they do it.

Fantastic news for the club.

Another avenue for the club would be to set up a trust account where the club could accept funds which are refundable on request.

Minimum deposit would be $1000 and retrievable in a weeks time no questions asked. This money could be set up in offset account which would decrease the amount of interest which we accrue against our debt.

We can call it the MFC Money Laundering Account. I'm sure we'll get a few terrorist groups or drug barons who'd be more than happy with this arrangement. B)

Let's just say that there are two sides to every story, now is the time to forget the rights and wrongs of back then and all work together 'going forward' (today's buzz word) so that history will be glowing when it's written about the era that began yesterday!

GO DEES!

I agree, I'm also very surprised that he's come back to the club, i honestly didn't think it would happen.

He is right, it is probably the most significant night in the Club's history.

I agree and feel that of greater significance than the donations is the healing of the supposed fractures within the club and everyone working together for our great clubs future

This was joffa corfe's contribution (he's the [censored] in their cheersquad with the badly dyed hair and the dental problems)

 Which one?

Thanks Jarka, yep it will be another 'small miracle'. There's a great 'buzz' around the club just now, I'm feeling (hoping) it's real and not just another illusion. If that's the case, we're going to taste the ultimate victory and in our lifetimes. That will be the Big Miracle!! Cheers

Tell ya what mate, that is an excellent point. That doesn't mean we shouldn't be grateful for them allowing us to take the reciepts every year, but the fact is they don't need that extra money, it's a great PR thing for them to be shown as giving a leg up to a struggling club, and as you stated, they get another match at the MCG.

Gary's comments shouldn't be taken litterally, he was showing the passion he has inside for the MFC, and when you're a passionate Dees fan, hating the Pies and laughing at the hole they've dug for themselves this past week comes with that.

Perhaps in hindsight not the smartest comments, but funny none the less!

Sorry bout that lol

Me and my Dad donated $100 today.

Been a great day for the Dees! Wish we could see the speeches from the night!

Keep it up guys!

GO DEES

What an inspiration. Come on Demons supporters, get on board.

Just sent in my $50 p/m direct debit form to go with the 2 memberships purchased this season.

Every dollar counts.

Go Dees.

I detest Collingwood as much as the next human being, but what Garry said was neither smart nor classy. There's no need to kick clubs while they're down. We're not even 'up' yet. All his comments achieved were to decrease the chances of Collingwood and other AFL supporters putting their hands into their pockets to support Melbourne in a time of financial need.

I don't want other peoples money to get us into shape. Melbourne supporters need to be woken up. We gotta stand on our own 2 Feet. I want Melbourne to be in the "Big 4" within 10 years. Filling the "G with a minimum of 55,000 for Home Games.

IT CAN BE DONE....

Have been a visitor to this site for a long time

This initiative has prompted me to join. This is no doubt the most important initiative the club has ever embarked on. we should all take into account the enjoyment we get from the club and the team when thinking about whether and what to contribute. A donation that we can afford is a small price to pay from we all get out of the club just being in existence

Welcome Harbinger. You are correct regarding the club's initiative.

Just made my donation.

When we are back up there everyone who puts something into this and buys their membership can be genuinely proud - you have made decisive action, not just watched the team on the TV and read about them in the paper.

I hope Garry Lyon reminds people on the Footy Show tonight about the Demon Debt Demolition website.

Luckily, I get my tax return next week so I'll be able to donate a bit of money too! ;)

I was going to post this as a new topic but I reckon it is best served here...

Alright my name is Dave, I am not a Demons supporter, I support Collingwood, yesterday I put forward an idea on a forum I am current admin of, I have called this "TAE's Fight to Save The Melbourne Football Club" we as a forum are looking to collect as much money as we can to send to the Melbourne Football Club. I am setting up an account for the members to place the funds into an account and will pass it onto the MFC.

What inspired this was a text message I got from a friend saying that no other clubs supporters would give, I wanted to test this theory and thus it came about that the forum I admin is looking to give as much as we can. I am not going to advertise the forum.

As a kid I almost lost my local club Glenorchy, we were in debt and we had to find a way out, we survived, we are not finanically sound, and we are looking to win our second flag in a row. I was only a baby when Collingwood almost became history. With local rivalries I have been taught to hate the Demons, as I do I hate North Hobart, and part of me still hates the Demons.

But I do have a soft spot for the MFC, the reason well, we;ll keep that one to ourselves, but I would hate to see a club like your's die like Fitzroy did, and I would hate to see your club just vanish. We may not raise that much, but we are going to give as much as we can, and we hope that the Demons can win this battle and get the money required to stay alive.

But The Animal Enclosure (forum I am an admin of.) is behind the Demons, and I will post (if that's cool?) the tally of any and all funds we can raise.

But if anyone wants to assist The Animal Enclosure you can pm me here, and when the account is set up (It will be done Monday as I live in a small town and the places around here are closed.) the details and you can assist.

I won't be here to advertise or troll, I just thought you might have been interested in our fight to help the Demons.

Thanks for your time,

Regards,

David.

Go Dees.

  • POSTGAME: Essendon

Despite a spirited third quarter surge, the Demons have slumped to their worst start to a season since 2012, remaining winless and second last on the ladder after a 39-point defeat to Essendon at Adelaide Oval in Gather Round.

  • GAMEDAY: Essendon

It’s Game Day, and the Demons are staring down the barrel of an 0-5 start for the first time since 2012 as they take on Essendon at Adelaide Oval for Gather Round. In that forgettable season, Melbourne finally broke their drought by toppling the Bombers. Can lightning strike twice? Will the Dees turn their nightmare start around and breathe life back into 2025?

  • PREVIEW: Essendon

As the focus of the AFL moves exclusively to South Australia for Gather Round, the question is raised as to what are we going to get from the  Melbourne Football Club this weekend? Will it be a repeat of the slop fest of the last three weeks that have seen the team score a measly 174 points and concede 310 or will a return to the City of Churches and the scene where they performed at their best in 2024 act as a wakeup call and bring them out of their early season reverie?  Or will the sleepy Dees treat their fans to a reenactment of their lazy effort from the first Gather Round of two years ago when they allowed the Bombers to trample all over them on a soggy and wet Adelaide Oval? The two examples from above tell us how fickle form can be in football. Last year, a committed group of players turned up in Adelaide with a businesslike mindset. They had a plan, went in confidently and hard for the football and kicked winning scores against both home teams in a difficult environment for visitors. And they repeated that sort of effort later in the season when they played Essendon at the MCG.
