Travis Johnstone

A friend of mine in Brisbane who does a bit of part time work on the AFL section for the Courier Mail has told me theres a rumour around Brisbane at the moment that Travis Johnstone wants a return to the MFC. Hes apparently unhappy at lack of time in the midfield and his insignificance within the team.

Dont shoot the messenger

NO WAY, NO WAY, NO WAY AND NOOOOOOOOOOO WAY!!!

We are on the up without freeloading players like that. It's a team game after all - and he wouldn't know the meaning of the word

Exactly right mate. Quality player though.

What would he expect to be different at MFC considering Bailey was thinking of playing him off the HBF to address his chronic inability to shake a tag?

I thought we did the right thing at the time and have seen nothing to change that belief at all.

I question whether he would want a return, but if he did his time at Melbourne is done. We have no need for him anymore. He will be 29 next year, and there arent too many, if any, 29+ year old players I would trade for or pick up in the PSD.

If he wanted out of Brisbane, just would prove he is still as mentally weak as he always was with us.

With a full squad with the way some young players are performing at the moment I honestly don't know who he would replace.

Whose Travis Johnstone?

^_^

He can come back if he takes a 50% paycut.

NO double his pay - but the Bears pay 100% of it for 2 years

What would we have to trade to get him back though.

Lions may be stubborn.

I'd rather cousins............far better and would cost less salery and draft wise.

Although neither fit the mould Baily is implementing.

Johnstone...??? who ..!!! ;)

If we got him for rock all - draft picks & money - or he fell into our laps, I'd have him.

This might mean nothing, but i thought it was interesting.

I was on the Gold Coast for the Get Smart premier a couple of weeks ago, and at the after party a few of the Lions boys were there (Merrit, Selwood, Brown ect) all hanging together... anyway then i saw Travis walk in, separately to the other players, and didn't even acknowledge, or get acknowledged, by the other players. It was a small room too. Just seemed weird that they wouldn't really even say hi, or talk. He did have a very good looking lady by his side though.

you know...there are reasons you get rid of people in the first place !!!

Tell your mate that the Courier Mail need to seriously lift their game. Apparently "Stefan Bailey (no relation)" was debuting for the Dees against Brisbane. I could find a factual mistake a day in the AFL section of the Courier Mail.

Yeah mate, exactly. If the player can though nullify these things does he deserve a 2nd chance.

oh dear...he might be too OLD to bring into our lineup :lol::lol::lol:;)

In a word ( or two ) NO THANKS !! been there...done that !!

Do you think he would accept a trade to Richmond or something.

Or is he just mfc at heart

More like he'd want to come back because Matthews expects him to work hard, sadly for TJ it wouldn't be any different here with Bailey as coach.

He won't leave Brisbane, I don't believe any team would take him

He's just a Surfboard and a Playstation at heart !!! B)

  • NON-MFC: 2026 Opening Round

Finally the 2026 AFL Premiership Season is upon us. While Melbourne sits out Opening Round, there is still plenty of footy to enjoy with five non-MFC clashes to kick off the new season. It all begins on Thursday night with a blockbuster at the SCG as Sydney hosts Carlton in what should be a strong early test for both sides. On Friday night, Gold Coast gets its chance to open the season in front of a home crowd when the Suns and Christian Petracca take on Geelong at People First Stadium. Saturday features a double-header, starting in the afternoon with Greater Western Sydney and Clayton Oliver meeting the Hawks at Engie Stadium. That is followed on Saturday night by Brisbane Lions hosting the Western Bulldogs at the Gabba, with the Lions embarking on their campaign to win the Threepeat. Opening Round wraps up on Sunday night at the MCG, where St Kilda takes on Collingwood in the only game in town in the first week of the season. There is no shortage of storylines across the round, so discuss all the action from the non-MFC games of Opening Round.

  • PREGAME: St. Kilda

With just over two weeks until their opening match of the 2026 AFL Premiership season, the Demons are already well on the path to redemption and have the Saints firmly in their sights ahead of their mid-March clash at the MCG. What do you think the team will look like when they run out on to the G?

Mars is not usually a place known for lighting strikes but on Friday evening it happened twice in the vicinity of the stadium in Ballarat that carries the name and is a half completed building site with limited capacity for spectators.
