So here we are, broke and with no home. Plans suggest we're going to fund our involvement at Olympic Park to the tune of $1.5 million (we currently have $1 mill saved) Our debt at years end is going to be $5 million or more. Then there's our summer base at Casey, I wonder how much that's going to cost. Obviously we can't afford either of them but both, who are we kidding. So that leaves us with the question. Which one do we commit to. I'm not sure we can afford not to go to Casey. A VFL affiliation and the possibility of gathering support in the community has an upside for us. Olympic Park on the other hand. Sure it's close to the MCG but we can't afford it, and will it help generate support. The City of Casey are already talking of tipping money into Casey fields. Which way do we go?

After match recovery at the " world's best practice" facilities just a short walk from the G will make a world of difference to the health of our squad.

So I'd go for that with Casey as a summer base. We don't need the Taj Mahal out there, let the council build it up. And for the Bubble Dome at least we'd be sharing the overheads with the Storm & Victory...seems like the best of both worlds to me.

We do both. The MFC are putting in $500,000 to Casey Fields to help improve the facilities. In return the Casey Council is going to give the MFC $500,00 worth of land out there somewhere. That land will be a tangible asset for the club and will appreciate remarkably in value. Getting involved at Casey is clearly a good idea. The Olympic Park precinct is also a fantastic idea and will provide the MFC with a great administration base and state of the art training facilities (gym, pool etc) right across the road from our traditional home, the MCG. We can afford to do both, you are wrong to suggest otherwise.

I like the idea of both as much as the next demon, but how is it we can afford to set up and operate 2 training venues. Whether or not the council chips in, there's ongoing costs. I reckon these ongoing costs will be pretty high at Olympic Park. We're bleeding cash so maybe we should invest In Casey and do all our training there, amongst the community, during the footy season when it matters the most

Ongoing costs at Olympic Park won't be too high - there will be at least two other teams using the facilities.

Will the cost of running the 2 be higher than our current MCG/Junction/Anywhere in Victoria summer training arrangements.

Maybe someone should put in a call to the accounting department!

Seriously though, the way i've understood this is that we've already committed about a $1 mil into the Olympic park precinct, it is our plan to have that as our full-on winter season training and recovery centre. Casey is purely summer, where we don't really need recovery facilities. Casey will be designed to get us out into the community pre-season in order to get us local members, but it's my opinion that we still have to keep pushing with the Bubble Dome project, and from what i've heard we can afford it.

IMO to NOT do it will set us another 2 years MINIMUM.

2?? We'll only really be in one place a t a time. Until Bubbledome comes on line the training and some other depts currently spread aroud the world ( all-but..lol ) will amalgamate at Crany...thats the plan. When bubbledome comes alive and we can actually move in.. all MFC depts will transfer to BD . There will still be training at CAsey, but its not a costly exercise to do that ( all things being relative ) So we're not really having 2 sets of costs.

Youre right Brocky...we do both.

The MFC needs to do BOTH!

We need to have the Olympic park stadium set up for Winter/Season training which will include high-tech and state of the art facilities. And also we need to have the Pre-Season/Summer training base set up at Casey Fields along with an alignment with the VFL side Casey Scorpions seeing as our alignment with the Sandringham Zebras will end as soon as this season finishes.

It is up to the new MFC board to sort these things out for us. We as MFC supporters/members must do anything we can to help (donations to the Red & Blue Foundation etc) but we must be respectful and allow process to take due course with the concerned parties.

Ongoing costs will be shared - I imagine the Casey VFL team will be using the facilities down there during the footy season, and others have commented on costs at Bubbledome.

Exactly correct Rogue.. its not as if someone is building something for our exclusive use down there ( Casey ) . The gym wont be locked in winter..lol. Its there as a shared resource. This is part and parcel of the actual argument for Casey Council participation. That EVERYONE will benefit. The Council is trying to grow inregion., to provide infrastruture and amenities that will embellish the region. This is one..albietly a nice shiny one to hang their hat on but none the less its not all about us.

But the issue Roost raised is valid... were are we getting the coin from to do BOTH. We all think it is the right way to go for us to have both but have we got the cash to support both if the article from the other thread (which came from MFC website) asking for $500k?

Isn't the new MFC board supposed to donate around $2 million dollars?

Plus we as MFC members/supporters have to contribute as much as we can via the Red & Blue Foundation.

Although I am concerned that money hasn't already been set aside for this.

Both the Olympic Park stadium and the Casey Fields training bases need to be set up to help with the long term viability of the MFC.

In my opinion BOTH these projects need to go ahead for the MFC to survive.

Not to mention, I would guess, a grand social/function room that poss', we could share with the Storm boys, the fish NET Girls, & the sphereball code.

It's been reported that in return for the 500K we're getting 500K worth of land (realisable asset).

That seems to have been reported on a number of occasions.

Upfront costs

Fitout costs at Casey - measured in tens of thousands of dollars.

Fitout costs at the bubbledome - maybe $1 million +.

Recurrent Costs (every year - year in, year out)

Recurrent costs at Casey - negligible

Recurrent costs (ie rent, utilities etc) - this is the killer - $500k/year.

Next day recovery facilities:

State of the art facilities at bubbledome

$37 million aquatic & leisure centre 700 metres up the road from Casey Fields opening next year

Casey and Bubbledome are for two different purposes..why do some see a conlfict and a choice ?

Not a conflict but a possible fiscal problem

why..we still need to spend money..wheher its Junctiona Oval..or anywhere.. We DONT have a place to train til the bubble comes on line.

I dont see it as a fiscal problem..more a relatively cheap option .

If casey scorp is right the recurrent costs of Olympic Park are high, how do we afford this.

I want both like you. I just wonder where the money's coming from

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
