Addam Maric (groin) - test

Jack Grimes (back) - 2-3 weeks

Jared Rivers (abdominals) - 4-6 weeks

Brent Moloney (shoulder) - season

Russell Robertson (achilles) - season

This guy can't take a trick. He's out for 4-6 weeks now.

Put him on ice again for the season. It is fast becoming a tragedy in football terms.

the only upside is that it gets games into frawley, and Warnock..

Just feel for him, along with Matty Bate, he is our most important player!

I'm getting to the stage where I'm having trouble seeing the light at the end of the tunnel with him. I'm sure he'll come back in some way shape or form to footy... but to what end? He's missed out on about 60-80 games (like Moloney) of education. His growth will be stunted. Not that he needed to have a WORLD of education... I reckon he knew already how to play well... but I want 250 games out of him, not 200...

Brent Moloney and Colin Sylvia spent a good 2 seasons battling OP.

Both have since come good to a certain extent (pity about Moloney's shoulder).

Not sure if Rivers had the groin surgery that Judd had, but that certainly could be a possibility.

We shouldn't give up on him yet, he's still young and we know he is a great player when fit.

Id like to see two consecutive seasons out of Col and Beamer before announcing we 'have the cure" so to speak.

its very very frustraing watching our annointed combatants sit it out all the time.

Some seriously heart wrenching hard asks are required at seasons end.

You could have said that twelve months ago

Just feel for him, along with Matty Bate, he is our most important player!

Two years ago Rivers was up there. But not now. His injuries and the changing game have put a sword to that.

Matthew Bate has not achieved enough to deserve that accolade.

And thats my point RR, we could have said that 12 months ago, and we are saying it now. It is shocking.

And while it is a matter of opinion. I still firmly beleive that He is our most important player, and Bate will be going forward.

Important is different to best which i think you are getting mixed up with..

This sucks.

A fit Rivers combined with the new Garland/Warnock duo gives us a great look down back.

Bring on 2009.

Truth is if he is not playing he is not important and he has not done so for the past two years. Also two years ago our backline stocks (ex- Rivers) were really poor. At the end of 2006 when we thought MFC would seriously challenge for top 4 in 2007, I thought Rivers presence was crucial. I rated him in the top 3 of importance with McLean and Neitz. Now that we are not challenging and possibly wont for some time, the urgency of the importance of Rivers to the success of the side diminishes a little.

MFC are starting to develop other backmen who have changed our backline from dire to promising. The backline issue is not solved but it is looking better than it was before.

In addition in the past 2 to 3 years, the game of football has sped up enormous with greater emphasis on pace through all parts of the ground. For all his skills, Rivers is not endowed in that area and IMO he too slow to play effectively on fast forwards and too small to play on the gorillas. I suspect that he has the opportunity to prove us wrong when he returns but I suspect there will be only certain types of forwards he can be matched on. If we can develop Garland, Warnock, McNamara, Martin and Frawley it may free up Rivers to pinch hit up the ground at certain times.

Having Rivers back fit is important to MFC. Is he the most important player at MFC? Not as important in my opinion as he was.

Given how poorly the side has performed in the past two years, I think the side is going through a restriking of who is most important. Most of them are U23 and are just finding their feet. Form and fitness are two crucial attributes to those decisions.

It's ridiculous to suggest that we put him on ice again. Let's find out if his body can stand up to the rigours of AFL football. We put him on ice last season, and what good did it achieve?

I heard that he may go back to Adelaide

To do what?

If his body is not up to it, his body won't be up to it in Adelaide either.

You wont find out by playing him injured. And given he cant get himself fit to play might give you a hint of whether he can or cant!

There is real doubt about whether he will play again this year. I would take 4 to 6 weeks with a grain of salt and skepticism.

When you have OP then the treatment may prescribed a sustained break from the game. Icing last year may not be the cause of what affected him this year with the scourge.

I think it would be a risk to the player and other objectives of MFC if we played him unnecessarily. Hell, lets get him fit and out there in 2009.

Posted
Rhino,

Do you know the term of his current contract?

No.

I would doubt that we have given him a 5 year contract. I cant think of many MFC players that would have one. Maybe Davey and possibly Bruce and they would be well through them. However, I stand corrected if someone has more reliable correct information.

Knowing our luck he'll get fully fit for them and star, just like Thompson is doing at the moment.

Jared Rivers (abdominals) - 4-6 weeks

not good numbers to have next to your name if past experience is anything to go by...... at least warnock and garland seem to be doing the job down back in his absence...

Abdominals?!?!?!

HaHa!!!! Was clearly discussed on Adelaide radio on Monday that he is struggling with groin soreness.... Unfortunately, I think we may have seen the best of Jared at Melbourne....

I think the River's run dry!

Trade bait..... Don't care what people say, but Rhino is correct! If you can't play more than 10 games a year then you are not a required player (injuries or no inuries)

In his state and with his fitness record over the past two years he has no trade value Krazy.

I wonder if there is any other club that has so many OK players with OP. Sylvia, Moloney and Riv...is there any chance the club can do surgery like what the sydney defender Malceski had?

Malceski had an operation to repair an ACL injury. OP is not necessarily fixed by standard operation.

No chance at this stage.

Nooooooooooo! :o:(

What the hell is our club doing to player groins?!

I tell you what, I'm pretty frustrated. Not that I know of anything we can do about it. I just pray that Maric's groin injury isn't the beginning of a battle with OP.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
