No West Indies because they got knocked out by the mighty DUTCH who today beat South Africa by 38 runs, doing everyone else in the tournament a massive favour!!!!

What’s up with your mighty Dutch tonight?! Lost a wicket in the first, piled on the runs without loss in the next 10, then four consecutive runouts! FOUR of the five top order batsmen run out. First time that’s ever happened, not just in World Cup history, but in ODI history.

Omg that would be glorious!!!

I wouldn’t care who went on to win the Cup, just seeing that would be enough for me. 😂

Speaking of who’ll win the championship, I reckon we’re the only ones who’ll come close to troubling India. Last night I watched India’s innings, absolutely scintillating. I fell asleep during the innings break but woke up not long after and thought I’d watch the second half of SL’s innings. But there was no second half. All out for 55 in the 20th over. Insane! Shami took 5 for 18 in 5 overs! And he’s not 100% fit!!!!

Haha, would go down in folklore forever! 😁

I haven't watched this world cup as much as I wanted to but is SA any chance to challenging India?

My gosh, India look dangerous, playing very well as you'd expect them at home. Going to take a special effort by the teams who plays them in the finals! Like, all out 55 is insane!

Come on Aussies for tonight!!!

3 down forr 112. Not looking good. Badly missing Maxwell and Marsh.

They play each other tomorrow night. Will be an interesting match. I still can’t imagine anyone getting on top of India.

Losing a review in the first over = 👎🏽

Beating England is always joyous!

We're now playing some very good cricket with games against Afghanistan & Bangladesh to come

India play South Africa tonight which should be a beauty.  India look strong but anything can happen in white ball cricket ... it's a lot like a baseball game in that sense

One bowler or one batsman gets hot and the game sways

I love Maxi… he’s my fave player, by far. They said he’ll be fine, no long term effects, so that’s great. We need him in top form as he has been. As for the Poms, reigning champions, yet they’re an absolute hot mess right now. A jolly good thumping is in order! A golden duck for Jonny Bairstow… run out, of course. 😁

Well, we were calling for it... Bairstow out for a golden duck!!! 🤣😂

Good win. Getting root out helped win the cause.

Went to bed when Stoinis was out in disgust. Just watched Max hit an amazing double in highlights and I am in a bit of shock.

My sleep patterns are scrambled due to my current medical treatment, so this time it’s something that worked to my advantage as I was able to watch the game in its entirety. At 7 for 91 I figured that it was well and truly gone, but with Maxwell at the crease I just couldn’t stop watching as he’s always capable of doing the unexpected.

it was far and away the best innings by any individual I have ever seen, including Dean Jones 210 in an early 90’s test in India. Amazing!!

I guess it needs it's own thread.*

All hail Glen Maxwell.

Maybe now we are a chance to beat the hosts.

* it doesn't need its own thread when there is already discussion here. Merged.

Recorded and now watching from 7-112 (Maxwell could have been out 3 times in the last 10 minutes!)

Did listen to the broadcast throughout the night and fell asleep (again) when we needed 60 off 60 (or thereabouts)

The innings is certainly one for the ages and high praise indeed from Sachin Tendulkar, describing the knock as the best he's seen at ODI level

Edit:  Just finished watching 'The Innings' ... truly amazing and when considering that his whole body was cramping, quite incredible!! I've never seen anything like it although there are parallels with the late Dean Jones' double century in Madras in 1986

Glenn Maxwell take a bow!

Interesting that Maxi and Deano both made 201, and both were out on their feet during their innings in stifling conditions.

I recorded it from 7/91 and went to bed, disgusted.  I watched it in the morning not knowing the result. Very exciting, but  I  expected Maxwell to go out next ball the whole innings, since he  was playing such risky shots.

The end came so amazingly quickly!

Gee, Marsh hits the ball hard. Flying to the boundary!

Great nickname too ... Bison!  Suits him to a T!  He really smacks the ball

He could make a big 100 tonight (mozz factor de-activated!)

Nice hitout tonight prepping for the big SF against South Africa ... and the match will almost certainly be played next Thursday.  With India to play NZ in the other SF on the Wednesday

Glenn Maxwell's classic double hundred reminds me of the 2 Australians who both scored 200's in test cricket but never scored another century!

It's actually happened 7 times with Reginald Foster (way back when) scoring a massive 287 but never reached 3 fugures any other time

So who are the 2 Aussies?  We're working on an honour system here so googling is not allowed!!

Are they from the recent past? (As opposed to Reginald Foster from way back when)

And indeed he did. But not before that run of dot balls on 99. Phew. He kept a cool head though.

Despite a spirited third quarter surge, the Demons have slumped to their worst start to a season since 2012, remaining winless and second last on the ladder after a 39-point defeat to Essendon at Adelaide Oval in Gather Round.

It’s Game Day, and the Demons are staring down the barrel of an 0-5 start for the first time since 2012 as they take on Essendon at Adelaide Oval for Gather Round. In that forgettable season, Melbourne finally broke their drought by toppling the Bombers. Can lightning strike twice? Will the Dees turn their nightmare start around and breathe life back into 2025?

  • PREVIEW: Essendon

As the focus of the AFL moves exclusively to South Australia for Gather Round, the question is raised as to what are we going to get from the  Melbourne Football Club this weekend? Will it be a repeat of the slop fest of the last three weeks that have seen the team score a measly 174 points and concede 310 or will a return to the City of Churches and the scene where they performed at their best in 2024 act as a wakeup call and bring them out of their early season reverie?  Or will the sleepy Dees treat their fans to a reenactment of their lazy effort from the first Gather Round of two years ago when they allowed the Bombers to trample all over them on a soggy and wet Adelaide Oval? The two examples from above tell us how fickle form can be in football. Last year, a committed group of players turned up in Adelaide with a businesslike mindset. They had a plan, went in confidently and hard for the football and kicked winning scores against both home teams in a difficult environment for visitors. And they repeated that sort of effort later in the season when they played Essendon at the MCG.
