  1. From the MFC: Meanwhile, Mahoney said the club was “getting closer” to making an announcement about its senior assistant coach, who will be the successor to Paul Roos. “It’s getting closer. This will be a senior coach appointment in succession to Paul Roos in two to three years time,” he said. “It has to go through a process and ratified by the board, but we’re getting closer with that appointment.” http://www.melbournefc.com.au/news/2013-10-08/several-options-for-pick-no2-mahoney Looking like it wont be Dew - sounds like its all lined up.
  2. Sorry if this has been posted: Mahoney was posed whether 2012 Sydney Swans premiership player Nick Smith was in the mix. But he added Smith hadn’t been discussed. “Nick Smith hasn’t come up,” Mahoney said. “We’re talking to Sydney and they’re one of the clubs that we’re talking to for this [pick No.2] deal and then we’re talking about a number of players, but Nick Smith hasn’t come up at this stage.” http://www.melbournefc.com.au/news/2013-10-08/several-options-for-pick-no2-mahoney
  3. "We've said all along that pick two is a prized pick and it would have to be a very good player or a combination of players for us to give up pick two. "There's certainly a few that are worth considering." Mahoney I don't think the club is going to just give the pick away for some "average players". If nothing worthy of pick 2 is put forward then I guess we go with Aish but I strongly believe in what we are doing now. We desperatly need to bring some competitiveness to this team and quickly so we can start developing players properly and Aish isn't going to bring that. We need some experience/leaders that can carry this team forward. Sure if no reasonable deal is put forward then we have to go with Aish but at least we can say we tried when our team is just as bad next year.
  4. Agreed - I guess if you put yourself in the oppositions shoes - Why would you give up a future midfield star of 21-24 who has shown a lot and is just on the verge of greatness for a pick 2 potential midfield star (Aish). It would be different if it was pick 1 (Boyd). We need to identify the players we want and get under their skin - big contracts is really the only way I think and maybe advertise the whole living in Melb/team on the rise. We need to get the player(s) to make us our preferred destination and be begging for a trade and then we talk to their club (that's going to be tough). We have to try and take advantage of this whole home sick saga.
  5. Bomber fan just rang up trade radio to ask if the bombers could get pick 2 for trading Myers. lol
  6. Player Bio from Sydney website: 25 years old, played 100 games, 24 in 2013 and averages 14 touches a game. Smith is the type of no-fuss footballer so highly valued at the Swans, leading to his elevation to the leadership group in 2012. Lacking the profile he would be afforded in the main states, Smith still gained recognition outside Sydney last season as he continually shut down the AFL’s best small forwards. Rarely beaten and a ferocious tackler, he finished sixth in the best and fairest and took out the best clubman award. Draft history: 2008 rookie elevation (Sydney). 2013 Coaches Call 2012 was really good for Nick Smith. He was our best small defender who took the most dangerous forwards every week, which is not a job that anyone relishes, but he did it with fantastic gusto. Pre-season has been interrupted with a slight knee problem, but has resumed training. We hope in 2013 he will continue to take on the opposition’s best.
  7. Is that all you are going on? a trade wind? You got me excited.
  8. If Jobe Watson isn't a powerhouse than I don't know who is. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4dmicGHbxcM
  9. Can't wait till he takes a hanger over Gawn will be mark of the year!
  10. And I am happy with that but I think we might look at a ruckman or small forward with a late pick.
  11. Full time: 24 touches, 7 marks, 2 tackles, 5 inside 50's, 1 goal and 3rd most Dreamteam points (for team) Good effort!
  12. Also the feed from the SANFL website (has stats) - 18 touches and 1 goal at 3qrt time http://www.sanfl.com.au/livestats/match2/
  13. Imagine the difference a Shuey, Savage and another good 22-25 year old would make to our team. Savage (3rd round pick and big contract) Shuey (pick 2, Blease/Tappy and 2nd round pick for pick 8 and Shuey?) Another good young mid (pick 8 and compensation pick 21?)
  14. Paul Roos can try and sell his vision although at the end of the day it will come down to a big contract. We have to hope that we can bring in enough midfield talent this year so come next year we will be much improved and won't have to throw bags of cash at players. But yer Paul Roos and a bag of cash are our only hope.
  15. I love the Viney - no BS approach. Seems pretty confident we will be holding on to Sylvia's compensation pick (by not picking anyone up in Free agency) Would quite like to have a pick in the 20's either for trade or drafting a good mid.
  16. I respect his effort and devotion but I just don't think he as what it takes to play at the top level. Has improved a lot but I wouldn't wait another 3 years just to say if he improves (Morton).
  17. I rate him higher than Nicho but if he has another concussion he is done. There are more important things than football (I think?).
  18. He may rank poorly in those two areas but I see him as our only 2nd ruckman going forward. (20-30% rucking)We hope that in 1-2 years Gawn is beating most ruckman but he will always need a 2nd ruckman. Spencer and Jamar will be moving on shortly and they aren't 2nd ruckmans anyway. We will be lucky to have all three of Clark, Dawes and Hogan on the field at the same time. He's value will only increase if we keep him so it would be silly to get rid of him now. Who knows if he improves his rucking he could easily become a 1st ruckman. For now we can keep him as a 2nd ruckman and a backup for when Gawn goes down.
  19. Yes that's what I meant - Sydney just can't handle a bit of their own medicine
  20. I found this a little ironic: Jarrad McVeigh on Buddy - "We're not going to be sorry for trying to be a ruthless team and get the best players we can."
  21. Agreed - although I do think having a pick in the early 20's would be nice (could probably still get a nice mid). But I don't know what the depth is like in this draft.
  22. Yer - A fringe player at Hawthorn asking to leave isn't going to cost a 1st round pick (possibly 2nd round if there are multiple interested teams)
  23. Agreed - I think he would be very good for the Dees and would come pretty cheap. "Savage would be an attractive proposition to clubs looking for young midfielders with around 50 games experience in a good system." "He was a brilliant performer for the Box Hill Hawks during the finals series, kicking five goals and getting 28 disposals in the preliminary final." "Hawthorn had a productive meeting with the 22-year-old midfielder on Wednesday where all options were laid on the table and both parties agreed on a way forward. Although he is contracted for 2014, the Hawks were very supportive of Savage and respectful of his position." Hawks happy to help Savage search for new club I think Melbourne would be a attractive place because he would definitely be in the 22 and we could also throw some decent money at him. If we could make us his preferred club we should be able to force Hawthorns hand and get him cheap.
  24. Hopefully we come out strong at the start of the year and we can sign a few players like Frawley and Hogan. Big if though - so either that or we try and get some contracts after a "good" preseason.
