  1. I think you are mixing up ruthlessness with stupidness. Find the loophole in the system and then act. We must be looking into this "promotion" loop hole. Is a promotion purely acting position or does it also relate to salary? If we have to make up a new coach role/name to get him then do that (e.g. "Successor candidate")
  2. Well they got him through Free Agency so that's more cash based. If we were to get Rockliff it would be more trade related (no way would you pay him 700,000 a year and trade pick 2). I don't want to pay massive overs but we might have to and now that Sylvia and Davey have left maybe we can front load a contract like we did with Clark. The problem with that is that we need a mid to play for 8 years and it would be tough to then half that contract after the initial contract ends (like 4 years).
  3. http://www.melbournefc.com.au/news/2013-10-04/sylvia-exit-creates-opportunities-viney From watching that Interview with Viney it sounds like he is pretty certain that we are going to get a compensation pick of around 20 for Sylvia. He said nothing about this compensation pick being diluted by bringing in Free Agents and then said the club doesn't really have any interest in any of the Free Agents. Looks like they value that compensation pick more than any free agent they can bring in. Delisted Free Agents don't effect compensation do they?
  4. It's not a rumour - all they said was that they where willing to wait for Dew to finish his contract. I see it 2 ways: 1. they are willing to wait for his contract to end 2. they are trying to force Sydney hand (let him go because they know he wants/is going to leave)
  5. So is he our new poster boy now? I like it - he has a bit of class about him. Anyone know if he has a legit position now or is it just casual media stuff for his mate Roos?
  6. Just mentioned Swallow and Melbourne on trade radio (no real link though) Still if he wants to move to Melbourne I would put pick 2 on the table
  7. I don't really care what number our players wear. As long as they turn up to play.
  8. Not saying he is irreplaceable - I just posted saying he was replaceable. I am saying that all those saying that he is no good and doesn't try (well he was our 2nd best tackler)
  9. For those that are happy to see him leave: Averaged for 2013: 20 touches 4.5 tackles 0.5 goals 4 marks Had 9 games with more than 20 or more touches. Not many of our players averaged 20 touches this year (only 3 players had more disposals than Sylvia and they played more games). 2nd in tackles for the year and 4th for Dreamteam points.
  10. Agreed - it is a loss and I think he will play very well for Freo. But having said that if we get reasonable compensation e.g. pick 19 and can snare 1-2 good youngish mids (22-25) combined with 2 senior mids (26-30) then we might just come off on top. Difficulty is keeping that compensation whilst aquiring some senior mids. Hope him all the best for the future and I fully understand his decision.
  11. Look a bit like this I think:
  12. Only just realised he is only 34.... (must be seriously rated by Roos) I guess he would be 37 by the time he is successor or do you think we are mainly just looking at him becoming a line coach? I guess we can always have two or three possible successors and just pick the best one when the time comes (Burns/Simpson/Dew). Info: "Dew has been an assistant coach with the Sydney Swans the past two seasons, looking after the defence in 2011 and is in charge of stoppages this season. Dew retired at the end of the 2009 season after being drafted to Port Adelaide in the 1996 National Draft. He played a total of 206 AFL games, 180 for Port Adelaide before spending his final two seasons at Hawthorn. He won a premiership with Port Adelaide in 2004 and another with Hawthorn in 2008. Following the departure of Brett Allison to North Melbourne, Dew joined the Swans late in 2009 as a development coach. Debut: 1996 (Port Adelaide), Games 180, Goals 245. 2008 (Hawthorn), Games 26, Goals 20."
  13. I am not saying he is not a part of the problem just saying that I think he is a big talent and that he will play very well at a decent club. Although I thought he was pretty consistent through most of the year (dipped a bit at the end).
  14. I think he is a good player but he just has nothing to play for. Most of his career has been spent in the bottom 8. I think he would love playing in big games with midfield support.
  15. I bet you will be eating your words come round 1 next year. Sylvia in a good midfield will be like the Moloney effect times 10.
  16. Even if Neeld did have a decent gameplan - he had divided the playing group and they were never going to regroup under him. We need a united playing group more than any other team.
  17. Would definitely like most of our coaching group assembled by next year but if he is the best fit for the role - then we wait. Hopefully Sydney folds and says "run along Dew". I have never really hated a club before but Sydney is becoming the front runner. I would like the successor to have as long as possible under Roos and involvement with the players so he can create bonds and know the gameplan etc.
  18. Big loss - under valued player on here Hope he is looking at a big contract (500,000) I want my compensation.
  19. In his rising star video he says he lives with scully and they have their own cleaner/never cook Still agree we should go hard but I think we do need a 22-25 year old mid B to A grade
  20. Demon hunt: Fremantle circling Sylvia If he is going the more competition the better (better contract - better compensation)
  21. Oh damn you caught me! I have been trying so hard to fit in. Just looking for some sauces!
  22. Matured Garlett says he's ready for a second chance: Garlett set for second chance So where do people see this kid going in the draft? I know we need midfielders and that should defiantly be our first priority but we also need a small forward and he is really highly rated. He could probably also go through the midfield. As I said midfielders first but if we can I would definitely go for this guy (value has decreased due to his behavior but has now had an extra years conditioning). We are one of a few clubs that needs to take some risks.
  23. The club has said that they only see a handful 3-4 players as worthy of pick 2. I 100% agree with what the club is doing - we need a few good mids aged 22-25 who can come in and have a big impact on our midfield. There is no reason why we can't get a decent mid with our 2nd round pick or trade for a 10-18 pick. I for one am sick of the hype that comes with drafting a high pick player anyway. I think if you throw two B-A grade mids in (22-25 years old) plus 1 or 2 mature mids like Cross or younger and it will make a big difference to our team. I think it is crucial to our development that we get some mids to ease the pressure off the young guys (Viney, Toump, Trengove etc.) and also could very well bring about a competitive culture (we can't go on with the massive thumping's). I don't think Roos is thinking short term by putting pick 2 on the table - he is thinking long term (development/culture).
  24. Here is the interview: http://www.melbournefc.com.au/video/2013-10-02/radio-interview-josh-mahoney
  25. Well Sylvia came 5th in the Melbourne best and fairest so that's skewed in our favour. Also if Sylvia does go I am hoping that GWS has to out bid other suitors like Essendon (they do have a spare 1.2m now). GWS desperately need some seniors like us and I can see them having to pay overs in order to convince him to go to another building club. I would be happy with an end of round one pick but of course that won't happen (we will probably pick up cross and then the AFL will give us pick 100).
