Pendles quite often racks up a high tackle count as well as lead the possessions count. How could that be?
-
The equivalent of playing a man down.
-
Dawes missed some easy shots on goal which was disappointing. How much Jones has improved his disposal is mind blowing. He used to get caught a lot with the ball, now he manages to find space or just simply slices one through between two would be tacklers.
-
Great to see we tackled our arses off, the tackle machine leading the way with 2, some had the big donut.
-
Was just reading that, faaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrkkkkkkk.Ideally we want Dawes up and firing, besides straightening us up it would be good for when Hogan plays.
-
I want Howe back up forward. He can take a contested mark(not just sit on people's heads)with Dawes and Chip also up front he will cop third best defender. He's also a reasonable shot in goal. Dunn to play in defence .

I had a multi on last week with the Dees in it. Forgot to add the Pies on Friday night due to heavy drinking. Picked the rest, stood to win about $940 from a $12.50 bet until the Swans decided to loose. Lots of hard to pick games this week.

I think last week there was a noticeable difference between the first and second half. The second half seeing us lay effective tackles. The thing that frustrates me is the player had made the decision to tackle , made the effort to get to the ball carrier to lay the tackle but then fails to execute the tackle. There is a trend within top clubs winning games also dominate the tackle count.

Jack Watts time dominate a whole game. Sorry, forgot we stuffed his debut up just under five years ago. After the Saints last night this club and every player on the list are out of excuses. What's changed......the biggest thing should be mindset. When we tackle, try not to let your opponent still dispose of the ball. Every player(bar the sub) to lay minimum 4 tackles.

Match Preview and Team Selection - Round 5

Would to see Howe back up forward and Dunn remain down back to help repel the Suns attack. Some have pointed out that Vince is due for a big one, and whilst that might be true the stage is set for Watts to tear a game apart. I'm aware of how he has played this year but we are still waiting for him to take his game to the next level and become elite. -

Exactly, draft picks didn't work out like we had hoped. Why not bust your gut all year, enter every game with a "we can win mindset" as the Saints and Port have and as Roos is trying to install into us. After the Saints win tonight we are officially out of excuses. -

Saints(coach walked out, coach sacked, stars leave club, at least 3 first year players) defeat BombersGWS(stuffed full of third year players and a couple of seniors with varying experience) defeat swans(stuffed full of premiership stars, they had a massive injury list last year and still finished top 4). No one picked those upsets except some woman in an office tipping comp that knows nothing about football. Mindset is a powerful thing. Saints have lions next week and could be 4&2. Shouldn't the Saints be tanking to land a tall forward to replace St. Nick? How many wins can these teams expect ? When North win it's the Shinboner spirit and when they loose it's.......? 18 v 18 , have a crack. -

Roos said after watching us last year and speaking to players there was no doubt that certain games the players were mentally beaten before running out. I don't think Geelong/Hawthorn or Freo planning on getting weaker any time soon. Roos said the playing group needs to believe every time they run out they are a chance to win. I wonder what mindset GWS ran out with for round 1 ... -

No excuses going into this game. Its our home ground, as we strive to become better we need to start reinforcing this point. -

It's about mindset, blokes like Viney can't stand losing. This for mine is a key factor when recruiting, not the most important but it's up there. Recent example Sylvia. No one said play in a grand final, aim for finals. Yes, we most likely won't make finals but if we don't have it as a goal why bother running out. Players must be made to sit in the stands as a group during this years finals and start dreaming . -
Round 5: Predictions & General Discussion
Bombay Airconditioning replied to Machsy's topic in Melbourne Demons
We're to blame for beating Carlton. Had the organised rabble known as Richmond lost on Thursday it would be their turn. I said to a friend yesterday Hardwick should have banned his club from singing the song, high five-ing each other after nearly loosing to Brisbane then singing the song like you had beaten the Hawks. Tigers play the Hawks/cats/bye/then us. Should we beat them they will be 2 & 6. Then it's their turn. Brisbane played 7 teenagers on Thursday which they are forced to do after last years exodus. Players getting suspended doesn't help their cause. Their time will come but right now it's more fun watching the likes of two of the supposed big 4. -

We've added new midfielders, new coach(again), new gameplan(again)the forward line is yet to settle. Once team gels a big more we should start to see even more improvement. -
Some would call Jack Riewoldt a match winner. Against the bottom 4-6 teams he might be that but often goes missing when the heat is in against quality opposition. Exactly was he wasn't an automatic selection for AA when he won the Coleman.

Well we have the money. Must win more games and go down fighting in the ones we don't. Need to minimise blowouts. -

There's no excuse for not tackling, every player should at least be able to tackle once per qtr. -

A player can have 6 effective handballs and 1 effective kick + 3 ineffective kicks(1 out of bounds and two straight to opposition which result directly in goals and costs the game) and the stats say 70% efficiency. Another player could have 40 touches, 24 kicks and 6 handballs which are part of hardball gets/clearances and score assists as well as kick two goals but also have 5 handballs and 5 kicks which don't hit their intended target but don't result directly in opposition goals and he sits at just 75%. I think tackles where the person getting tackled can still dispose of the ball shouldn't count but they do.
