  1. Refardless of which Richmond turns up how about we start turning up every week. This team is out of excuses.
  2. 1 captain please, then a vice, then 2-3 others to round out the group.
  3. Cheers.I sent it to a few of my mates in Melbourne who support less desirable teams, they asked the same question. My answer was that the fact it's happening at a second club with a different recruiting department plus I'd ideally associate recruiters with scouting the kids where as coaches see the players play either directly when they're coaching or looking to next weeks opponent.
  4. Paul Roos 2002-2010 Sydney Swans2002 - traded pick 23 for Nick Davis(Collingwood) 2003- no trades 2004 - traded pick 15 for Darren Jolly(Melbourne) 2005 - traded picks 19 & 50 for Ted Richards(Essendon) 2006 - traded pick 33 for Spider Everitt(Hawthown) 2007 - traded picks 28 for Marty Matner(Adelaide) and 44 for Henry Playfair(Geelong) 2008 - traded pick 46 for Rhys Shaw and pick 61(Collingwood) 2009 - traded picks 39, 46 and 70 for Ben McGlynn and Josh Kennedy(Hawthorn, possibly trade of the decade) pick 28 for Shane Mumford(Geelong) and a three way trade which saw Sydney get Mark Seaby, Amon Buchanan to the Lions and a swapping of picks. 2010 - pretty sure Longmire takes the raines at this point. 2013 - traded picks 2 & 20 for pick 9(Salem) and Dom Tyson(GWS) pick 54 for Michie(Freo) pick 23 for Bernie Vince(Adelaide) 2014 - traded Mitch Clark for H(effectively that's how it happened) picks 61 & 79 for Jeff Garlett(Carlton) pick 23 for Sam Frost(GWS) and picks 40(ANB) and 53(Oscar McDonald) Trading is an artform and Roos is possibly the best in the business. The trades from his time in Sydney turned some of the players looking for a fresh start (some on the scrap heap) into premiership players and All Australians. (Note some may of achieved after Roos had left but we're traded to the club by him).
  5. Daisy on 700k over 4 years, can't help but laugh.
  6. Not being smart but I need to ask, recent reports/photos from Melbourne training had Grimes having lost weight and looking skinny but two reports from yesterday have him bigger and stronger. Also his kicking has improved, if that is the case how would we now rate his disposal? The real test as always will be rd 1 against the Suns should he be selected.
  7. They also have a player with a hyphenated name.
  8. You make a good point about Balme but the Cats have had their off field sorted for some years now and should be alright, he was replaced by Steve Hocking who has been working at the club since 2004 in a number of roles but most of all was there before and during the Cats climb to the top so will be well aware of what's required. Can he emulate Balmey? Time will tell. From reading your previous posts I'm assuming your reference to "decisions coming back to bite them" was made with regards to Clark and Stanley. On face value the Clark trade was always going to have a risk element(the reasons have been done to death by everybody) but if Clark can get his body right it will be a huge win for the cats. If not well they have lost Varcoe who can be a damaging outside player but can be replaced(they drafted Cockatoo Collins who they hope can provide that, maybe not right away but does have the X factor). Can't remember who they traded to land Stanley but he's only 24 and could come good yet. Taylor is turning 29 but is still the no.1 defender in the comp, from memory hasn't had any major injuries and has 2-3 years left in him. They have identified the need for more key defenders as they made a play for Frawley and failed but will no doubt try again. Not sure about their young key position stocks. Could they find the next Sam Frost? They currently have a gun key forward in Hawkins and one of the top 4-5 mids in the comp in Selwood. They have some quality young mids coming through and will do again what they did before and that is turn mids into back and forward flankers so they have elite users of the ball all over the ground, something we seem to be heading towards. Yes Bartell, Stevie J, Kelly, Lonergan and Enright are getting on but the key is how they manage their retirements(all will be phased out over the next 2-3 years but not all at once) and where they play them until they retire. You could sit Bartlell in a forward pocket and Johnson on a flank and sit back as they continue to clean up, whilst the next generation of Cats take the next step. Geelong is one of the few clubs that has had the balls to tell the likes of Chapman it's time to move on. These decisions have all been the right ones. There is no guarantee the next batch will unearth a Stevie J or Bartell but one thing you can be sure of is that they will all play hard contested footy, they will walk off the ground filthy with themselves after every loss and its for those reasons they will win more games than they loose. There is no need for a Saints style rebuild.
  9. Rebuild the list? Geelong have been the masters of telling players their time is up. They still have Harry Taylor and a wealth of young talent. Geelong and StKilda rose together, look where the Saints are now. Geelong have won 3 flags, continue to play finals and continue to one of the few sides that can topple the Hawks. A rebuild isnt even on the radar.
  10. Thanks for the reports guys, greatly appreciatd.
  11. So the players have set themselves some high standards......about bloody time.
  12. All good Senegor but one thing I take away from these training reports and the ones from Melbourne is that this group of players has run out of excuses for not performing.
  13. I get he's from that neck of the woods but i reckon it's out of the Cats/Hawks/Pies. Geelong the go home factor, Pies will offer the most money and the Hawks will offer money in the middle of the other two plus a real chance at success.
  14. You don't get it?
  15. That figure was made up but you can get them. But adding that total to the grand total is misleading.
  16. Great point, it's not too late. AFL please themselves when it suits.
  17. Package up meal/couple of pots/tickets and hat or scarf so they feel the part.
  18. Can Grimes play midfield? If not can we justify a bench spot for him?
  19. Where's the rest of your team?
  20. Looking at the photos on the club website. Nathan Jones has no chance of becoming AA this year while he continues to wear plain ordinary black footy boots.
  21. I thought Hawks would be leading the charge. Lots of ageing playing, I would hazard a guess and say they aren't paying 100% of the cap. They have the luxury of getting players to play for less.
  22. I'd take it too but front loaded of course.
  23. I'm confuses, he was drafted in 2008 so only six years in the system but is listed as a free agent in an old AFL website article.
  24. Geelong broke their own rule of capping stars at 500k a year when they resigned Harry Taylor and I wouldn't be surprised to see them do it again. Their list has changed a lot since winning 3 flags.
