  1. Highest bidder......Nth Melbourne??.....Brad Scott....."it would be irresponsible to match the Pies offer for Levi...I think he'll stay but if he does go would be surprised if it was to North, edit: nothing should surprise us anymore.
  2. I thought his game went to a new level under Roos/Stone. His kicking improved I think largely to thinking situations through rather than trying to barge his way through. At 26 still has some quality years ahead of him.
  3. Hard to see how we can stuff this up. Old management yes. New management no.
  4. Thanks to all who report about our training sessions, somewhat eases the wait
  5. My halfback line read the same as yours, my mates question his fitness/age to hold down halfback, there is no argument about his talent. Considering how poorly we've been over recent years im surprised by how many people have made minimal changes in their best 22. This has hopefully been the last year for mass list changes.
  6. Thanks for that I knew it wasn't going to be many. As I said in a previous post I don't expect Hogan to kick 1 goal a qtr next year but it can't hurt to set yourself targets. Between ages 23-28 I will be expecting that from him.
  7. So how many years do we give them? Tackling...a fundamental basic of the game yet many of our players struggle to lay a tackle and when they do its not effective. Kicking for goal is another one, how many hours are spent by forwards practicing what they're paid to do. Obviously first and second year players need time to adjust to the pace of the game but there has to be a cut off. Another classic is "they're learning the new game plan" how many are there seriously? When Hinkley went to Port they shot up the ladder in a year putting that theory to bed. If kids play TAC, in most cases they get a new coach every year, hence a slight deviation from last years game plan. On top of that they have club/school footy. I think some clubs/coaches tend to overthink it hence over complicate it. This club has run out of excuses.
  8. Aim to win the clearance/stoppage first but it we don't everyone's attention should turn to chasing/tackling/defending. Obviously all games play out differently but with the amount of numbers around the ball at stoppages the opportunitys are there. Some of our players need to set themselves the goal firstly of laying an effective tackle, then move onto racking up numbers. Winning the tackle count doesn't mean youve lost the game. In some games this year Jones went head to head against opposition gun players, whilst his tackle numbers varied he did damage going the other way. I think largely over recent years our taggers have failed to carry out their job. There is room for improvement from the whole list. No there probably isn't a set number in terms of position, I see it more as an individual thing as we strive to become better. It should start with aiming to get pb's during the pre season.
  9. Aim to be the best and if you fall short its most probably still a reasonable result. This attitude of have a run, get a feel for the game needs to end. I don't expect Hogan to kick 80 this year but it can't hurt to set yourself targets. Run out with the mindset one straight kick on goal a quarter. Mids who play 13-15 minutes out of a 20 minute qtr should be aiming for two tackles a qtr. Sydney is more than capable of achieving those numbers. We've had numerous games where we were soundly beaten and tackle numbers were shite.
  10. I would have thought key forwards should aim for 1 goal per qtr.
  11. Whoever kicks the goals I want to see the team start to settle down. I was under the impression Frost was recruited as a key back, if that's the case leave him bloody down there. Find a spot a Howe, my preference is forward, where ever it is leave him there. We will have a number of new "best 22" this year. Let the team settle and hopefully through consistency and familiarity we will start to see improvement.
  12. Cheers, fixed up the spelling and no I don't think so. He's had his chances, not sure how the captaincy affected his ability to kick. Salem could kick hence why we drafted him. If your two big lumbering defenders have ordinary disposal you could cop that but we are supposed to be moving forward not treading water. We need to try someone else, Salem is an option. Purely my opinion.
  13. JETTA FROST DUNN SALEM T MAC THE PRINCE VINCE JONES TOUMPAS WATTS DAWES HOWE GARLETT HOGAN JKH JAMAR TYSON CROSS VINEY MICHIE PEDO KENT Insert GAWN/FITZY for round 1. Class and run off half back. Dunn can play third tall if needed, I think he's quite versatile. Was impressed with Frosts highlights, he will only get better. Cross must play, his work around stoppages is invaluable. Multiple options up forward. JKH to be given a chance in a functioning forward line.
  14. No one (in theory) is an automatic selection anymore. About bloody time. T Mac, Frost and Dunn can be the three talls.
  15. Still two or three to join them. Hopefully the days of delisting a qtr of your list every year are gone.
  16. If you are a leader/supervisor of any description in any kind of workplace you need to be able to do just that. You can give all the speeches you want but if you can't deliver yourself you will soon loose face with the group. We are all guilty of overrating our list, its time to cut the deadwood and move on. This means no passengers. And if what some people think is true, that is he will be voted into the leadership group because he is popular/ a great clubman well that decision needs to be taken out of the hands of the players for the short term. I might be in the minority but for mine he's no best 22. As some have already alluded to was he pushed. The notion his decision to step aside was an example of his character.....should of done it twelve months ago.
  17. The interesting thing is are we going to change the way we play. What does the Goodwin gameplan look like. This year was all about defence, as we know we havnt had the players to play like Port. I think we will see the gameplan slowly evolve over the next year or two. I think Roos is smart enough to realise what worked before will not necessarily work again, Freo being a good example. Teams need to be able to lock a game down and control it when needed, and also take it on when needed. Regardless if you can't dispose of the ball short, long or sideways your days are numbered. As we have recruited well over the past two summers I believe this may be the case for Grimes.
  18. So how many years do we give Jack to improve his kicking?.......two,three?My back six would consist of McDonald, Frost, Dunn, The Prince and Jetta. There is enough experience there to cover a youngster on the other back flank. I would like to someone like Salem tried in this position. If your two key defenders have average/poor disposal you can cop that, but not from your back flanks. At least offer some run and carry. Being articulate and a great bloke doesn't make you a good footballer. I look forward to the day where people's best 22's don't include Grimes or Jordie Bloody McKenzie.
  19. North was also my choice, I rate them a bit better than ordinary. They seem to push us off the footy to easily.
  20. If Cross is fit I'd play him all year. Games must be earnt not given. We supposedly dominated the draft "again". How quickly we forget they're kids.
