  1. Respect is earnt so if he has earnt the respect of the playing group why does he need a title to go with it? This bloke is at serious risk of not being best 18 (I say 18 because I'm not sure what use a mid size defender in the bench is). I'm under no illusion he's a great bloke but right now he doesn't need any distractions. I won't look at him differently if he's not in the leadership group but I can't say the same if he continues to butcher the footy.
  2. Saints, GC, GWS, Pies and Hawks would be my guess. Remembering it's not the money you have available now but at years end.
  3. Nice work, fact remains the only group Grimes needs to concern himself with is the group he's currently training with.
  4. Surely there's a role for Cross somewhere at Casey.
  5. Putting Grimes in the leadership group is like some posters naming him on the bench, some kind of constellation prize. If being part of the leadership group means so much as one extra meeting a year than he shouldn't be in it. He's currently busting his backside to be best 18, he can lead by the way he trains and attempts to play. He needs to focus 100% on salvaging his career.
  6. Won't GC need time to learn the new gameplan......that's right, that only applies to us.
  7. Exactly, as I said yesterday, if we run thinking we've list before the game has even started why bother running out.I wonder how Hinkley addressed his players in his first year.
  8. Fully aware he was injured and missed 8 weeks and a Charlie I just thought the whole reason for the early surgery was to be right for round 1. Has there been a setback, how many games is he expected to miss?Need to know for SuperCoach.
  9. As we hopefully become better we can stop selling our home games.
  10. Sorry i should have elaborated CBDEES, Pedo eludes to in his interview about the team leaning towards playing two ruckmen with one resting forward. So where does that leave himself and Howe? You've left Dunn out of your backline. Would love to see Toump or Salem of a back flank, if this was to happen I think it would force Grimes out of the side.I think its time to revisit the "starting 22 round 1" thread.
  11. 11 games last year we led in the last qtr but ended up with only four wins. In 2012/13 Richmond managed to upset the Hawks, anything can happen. If the team runs out with a negative mindset it's already over. The win over the Crows last year was massive, in the past travelling = automatic loss.
  12. I was thinking more along the lines of one of my cardboard cutouts. The cheer squad could hang it over the fence.
  13. Jones - Captain, Dunn - Vice, Dawes, Cross and Viney round out the 5.
  14. Refardless of which Richmond turns up how about we start turning up every week. This team is out of excuses.
  15. 1 captain please, then a vice, then 2-3 others to round out the group.
  16. Cheers.I sent it to a few of my mates in Melbourne who support less desirable teams, they asked the same question. My answer was that the fact it's happening at a second club with a different recruiting department plus I'd ideally associate recruiters with scouting the kids where as coaches see the players play either directly when they're coaching or looking to next weeks opponent.
  17. Paul Roos 2002-2010 Sydney Swans2002 - traded pick 23 for Nick Davis(Collingwood) 2003- no trades 2004 - traded pick 15 for Darren Jolly(Melbourne) 2005 - traded picks 19 & 50 for Ted Richards(Essendon) 2006 - traded pick 33 for Spider Everitt(Hawthown) 2007 - traded picks 28 for Marty Matner(Adelaide) and 44 for Henry Playfair(Geelong) 2008 - traded pick 46 for Rhys Shaw and pick 61(Collingwood) 2009 - traded picks 39, 46 and 70 for Ben McGlynn and Josh Kennedy(Hawthorn, possibly trade of the decade) pick 28 for Shane Mumford(Geelong) and a three way trade which saw Sydney get Mark Seaby, Amon Buchanan to the Lions and a swapping of picks. 2010 - pretty sure Longmire takes the raines at this point. 2013 - traded picks 2 & 20 for pick 9(Salem) and Dom Tyson(GWS) pick 54 for Michie(Freo) pick 23 for Bernie Vince(Adelaide) 2014 - traded Mitch Clark for H(effectively that's how it happened) picks 61 & 79 for Jeff Garlett(Carlton) pick 23 for Sam Frost(GWS) and picks 40(ANB) and 53(Oscar McDonald) Trading is an artform and Roos is possibly the best in the business. The trades from his time in Sydney turned some of the players looking for a fresh start (some on the scrap heap) into premiership players and All Australians. (Note some may of achieved after Roos had left but we're traded to the club by him).
  18. Daisy on 700k over 4 years, can't help but laugh.
  19. Not being smart but I need to ask, recent reports/photos from Melbourne training had Grimes having lost weight and looking skinny but two reports from yesterday have him bigger and stronger. Also his kicking has improved, if that is the case how would we now rate his disposal? The real test as always will be rd 1 against the Suns should he be selected.
  20. You make a good point about Balme but the Cats have had their off field sorted for some years now and should be alright, he was replaced by Steve Hocking who has been working at the club since 2004 in a number of roles but most of all was there before and during the Cats climb to the top so will be well aware of what's required. Can he emulate Balmey? Time will tell. From reading your previous posts I'm assuming your reference to "decisions coming back to bite them" was made with regards to Clark and Stanley. On face value the Clark trade was always going to have a risk element(the reasons have been done to death by everybody) but if Clark can get his body right it will be a huge win for the cats. If not well they have lost Varcoe who can be a damaging outside player but can be replaced(they drafted Cockatoo Collins who they hope can provide that, maybe not right away but does have the X factor). Can't remember who they traded to land Stanley but he's only 24 and could come good yet. Taylor is turning 29 but is still the no.1 defender in the comp, from memory hasn't had any major injuries and has 2-3 years left in him. They have identified the need for more key defenders as they made a play for Frawley and failed but will no doubt try again. Not sure about their young key position stocks. Could they find the next Sam Frost? They currently have a gun key forward in Hawkins and one of the top 4-5 mids in the comp in Selwood. They have some quality young mids coming through and will do again what they did before and that is turn mids into back and forward flankers so they have elite users of the ball all over the ground, something we seem to be heading towards. Yes Bartell, Stevie J, Kelly, Lonergan and Enright are getting on but the key is how they manage their retirements(all will be phased out over the next 2-3 years but not all at once) and where they play them until they retire. You could sit Bartlell in a forward pocket and Johnson on a flank and sit back as they continue to clean up, whilst the next generation of Cats take the next step. Geelong is one of the few clubs that has had the balls to tell the likes of Chapman it's time to move on. These decisions have all been the right ones. There is no guarantee the next batch will unearth a Stevie J or Bartell but one thing you can be sure of is that they will all play hard contested footy, they will walk off the ground filthy with themselves after every loss and its for those reasons they will win more games than they loose. There is no need for a Saints style rebuild.
