  1. Grimes is employed as a footballer, something he struggles at. All we have heard lately is his game has been affected due to the pressures of being made captain. Throughout the preseason training report all we heard was how his kicking has improved significantly yet come the intra club practice match he has resorted back to shanking the ball. He might be a leader but if you can't do what you're asking other people to do your message will soon wear thin. He might be a great bloke and a great speaker if that's the case maybe the public speaking circuit might be better suited for him. If he is in our best 22 we are in trouble. JETTA FROST DUNN SALEM TMAC H There's a back six that works for me. He can't play midfield and for the people naming him on the bench........what a copout. We finished 17th and will continue to lie at the bottom of the ladder if we continue to carry people who don't have the skill level required to play at the top level. I'm a good bloke and can speak well, doesn't mean that I can play footy. Roos was employed to make the tough decisions and that's what I believe is doing, hence the relinquishing of the captaincy, that was just the beginning.
  2. Is this the same Grimes butchering the ball in the intra club? I would offer him up as a trade at years end. Being captain means nothing, he never should been appointed to start with. I honestly hope he was pushed out of the role because this means Roos has the balls to made the hard calls that many before him have failed to make. 25 years old and close to 90 games yet can't kick a football. If we are to be successful there is no more room for good blokes or clubman who can't play the game.
  3. Please excuse my first post, I wrote that last night after doing four 13 hour shifts this week. I think Frost and Newton will help influence the results of games this year in our favour.
  4. I think in a year or two you will be changing your opinion about a few of those players, especially Frost.
  5. I don't get Grimes on the bench in people's teams. If he can't play midfield and he's not starting in defence then he's not in the team.
  6. Going to be an interesting year for him. Has to play forward for mine.
  7. I'd offer Grimes, I'd take a second round pick but I think we'd struggle to get that.
  8. Physically he's only 19-20 so that's understandable but he has footy smarts, knows where he needs to put his body and doesn't seem rushed when doing it. As he grows into an adult he will become very difficult to play against.
  9. I would of thought a combination of both, how many chances are we going to give some of these blokes.
  10. Thanks heaps for all the reports, very much appreciated. I think they confirmed today that our depth is not what some thought it was 3-4 weeks ago.
  11. Jack Watts can't lay an effective tackle, he knows when it's his turn to win the hard ball but doesn't do it(I understand the meaning of outside player, but every game has situations when even outsides players need to go in) but to sugguest he doesn't impact games enough is way off the mark. His use of the ball is exceptional putting it most times to our teams advantage. There are parts of his game that frustrate me but I also don't think our depth is as good as some on here make out, he's currently best 22 for mine.
  12. Never been part of a strong team or be a contributor to help make a strong team.
  13. One more question please TDI and Baghdad Bob..... Has there been a directive from coaches that if we have the ball in transition just outside our forward 50 and there isn't a clear marking option to just kick it in , bring it to ground and let our smalls apply their trade. I know every situation is different but knowing how structured Roos is, he may want us to work the ball around until a clear option presents. Last year the few occasions we took the game we looked alright in parts, I think the opposition rely on us to stuff around giving them time to flood back. I raised this in the last training thread and someone commented the Sunshine Coast camp was about building trust, I hope he is right.
  14. What position was Toump playing......anyone......anyone......Bueller...... Thanks again everyone for the reports. Would love to know who will set up of halfback during the season, there's a few names being bandied around. Again, quick ball movement requires competent operators. Some household names need not apply, it's the only way we are going to get better.
  15. Could you please explain your reasoning behind Watts. Cheers.
  16. JETTA FROST DUNN TOUMPAS TMAC SALEM VINCE JONES H KENT DAWES WATTS PEDO HOGAN GARLETT JAMAR TYSON CROSS VINEY NEWTON MITCHIE PETRACCA I know many won't agree but for me this team has a good balance of different ages. I think will Cross's last season but he is still valuable to us for reasons already explained in previous threads. Class of halfback, wow what a concept. Not just one but two options. Can rotate with H up onto the wing. Three tall forward options plus Watts who can rotate with Vince, or H to HBF, Watts to the wing and Salem to HFF. This team gives us multiple options. Two small forwards who find the sticks. Four mids on the bench, we have enough talls on the ground to shift around in case of injury. The thought of releasing Petracca with 5 minutes to go in the 3rd to roam through the midfield and up forward excited me.
  17. So all these training reports about quick ball movement.....need players that can kick otherwise what's the point.
  18. I think your right that whichever 22 run we can be guaranteed they will play as a competitive unit but I think it will be in twelve months time we will truly have the depth many believe we have now.
