  1. What I find most amusing is that you misspelled mis-spelling Dan. Sorry to highlight...
  2. Awfully juvenile, and absolutely uncalled for. I think there is a healthy respect between both sites, and the above mentioned posts in no way reflect the sentiment towards you here on Demonland. I'd be very surprised if it were somebody who played, but if we find out who demonsam is, I'd have no hesitation banning him from this site indefinitely. Harv's if you can track down the offending posters email address, PM it to me and we'll get the match from our end. In the mean time please extend out apologies to your faithful. Josh
  3. So back on topic. You'd hope, that almost a decade on, the club are better managing their young chargers. It's surprising and concerning to read the following text... Unfortunately, it was that same ambition and drive that ultimately proved to be his undoing. Eager to catch up with the more physically developed Aussies of his age, Walsh pushed his young body to extremes, to the point where it simply couldn't cope with the demands he placed on it. Osteitis pubis (OP) set in on the Cavan youngster, a condition that can render sufferers incapable of sustained physical activity. In other words, his core muscles couldn't carry the bulk he had managed to build up quite quickly in Australia. With no established cure, the Cavan man's days as a professional athlete were numbered. "I was taking extra sessions at every opportunity," Walsh recalled. "More kicking and more weights, every chance I got. I thought it would help bring me on quicker and help me improve, but in reality my body broke down from the inside out." Surprising that they allowed or even encouraged the extra workload. Surely they've learned from such mismanagement.
  4. You're not getting out of it that easily Redleg. I'm by no means ready for the transition, and I expect that as long as I'm out there playing, you'll be on the side lines trying to drag me... it's the only thing that keeps me running.
  5. Walsh's Australian adventure a lesson for today's hopefuls HAD things worked out differently, Nicholas Walsh would be alongside Tadhg Kennelly offering advice to the host of Irish youngsters about to try their hand in the Australian Football League... Smith talks One of the AFL's highest flyers is a chance to pull on the Swifts colours this season, with the club confirming it is in talks with former North Melbourne and Melbourne player Shaun Smith...
  6. Rollo, Whispering, thanks for the report and your ongoing support of these games. Two points... Firstly, I ran around on Sunday feeling like I was still 18, and I reckon this body has decades left. It's a shame that once the word retirement is mentioned next to a player, it hangs over their head for the rest of their career. From here on in every game could be billed as my last. Secondly, I recently raised the ire of our coaching panel by suggesting recently that we try to get someone from the football department down to coach one of these games. They weren't receptive to the idea of being replaced, irrespective of who by. I would imagine the idea of me doing a Michael Voss is about as popular as our whiteboard on Saintsational. In any event, I'll have to dull the colourful language before I can consider the gig full time. Too many years of country footy has rendered me incapable of motivating young footballers without horrifying their mum's. Good thing the only mother down there on Sunday was mine.
  7. Some of the most impressive run and carry football I've seen. Even when the Saints went the super flood (lined up in the 4th with a 0 man forward line) we still found our way through. Pleasure to play alongside everyone today - there was some real talent on show. Our strongest side and best performance yet.
  8. Beautiful read Whispering. Thank you. Jacko was a pleasure to watch... I remember my first season of football with the Yarram 4ths as a 12 year old, proudly wearing the #13 on my back. What could have been in the following years if the likes of Schwarz, Lyon, Prymke, Glen Lovett, Tingay and Jacko had stayed on the park? Just watched Rockliff's TAC Cup GF highlights. Impressive.
  9. We've got 25 named in the squad. Let's be sure everyone turns up to play. Not too late to get a mate along too. Get there early - let's be prepared. See you all tomorrow...
  10. He was drafted as a KPP and has had two years and 20 games in the system. The lad needs time! It's unbelievable how we're collectively so quick to draw conclusions on young players. I think the club made a mess of Chris Lamb's career by never deciding whether to groom him as a big bodied defender, or a lighter running tall back. I recall the club getting Lamb to trim right down one pre season, what they did then was throw him on Sav Rocca in the first round of the NAB Cup. He was monstered. There's conjecture as to whether Frawley is best suited to a key defensive post, or a medium half back flank role. I think he's got the makings of a good full back. Importantly, Bailey and co need to decide on a playing path for the boy, and develop him accordingly.
  11. I think I missed that conversation... it's as hard as humanly possible right?
  12. Grant, Diesel, get along boys, we need you lining up this Sunday... Deanox just run through a couple of them and you'll have contributed in my books.
  13. Would be great to have you both in. Some pace through the midfield is welcomed, God knows I'm not getting any faster. Hope everyone gets a run or two in before Sunday.
  14. As in the Kanga's training ground? Yeah why not... Gosch's paddock ought to be patched up by now. Why have we ruled that out? Or, Casey Fields anyone?? Honestly don't care where we play, just give me some grass to drive the bastards in to, a few posts to kick at, and I'm happy.
  15. I'll get Nick and Rick down for another run. We'll see where Blessed is at with his Port pre season...
  16. You're kidding right?? What knee injury isn't a "freak" accident? Be it an awkward landing, player falling on you etc... The relevant point is not how he inured himself, but how he's recovered since sustaining the injuries.
  17. Robbo is still listed. He's commenced pre-season with the club on a modified program, as he continues his rehab from his achillies injury.
  18. I'm happy to give "The Snitch" a touch up, but wouldn't it be more fun if both of us took him out. Personally, I don't think he's got the fitness or the nerve to get anywhere near the play.
  19. I just got in from a 10km run - part of a gruelling training routine for the weekend's game. And our boy Blessed has just started pre-season with Port Melbourne. He's fit! At least there'll be a few of us to chase the pill around all day.
  20. Let's try to get there between 1-1:30pm to have a stretch, a kick, a yarn and talk some tactics. I drove past Gosh's paddock this afternoon - there's a small fenced off area on the half forward flank, about 2 x 2 meters. Let's hope it's removed by the weekend.
  21. Demons duped Thank you Caroline Wilson. Good to see The Age and The Australian step in to bat for us. Still doesn't make up for the rubbish fixture...
