Who is going to be Jamars deputy? Miller?
-
I think you may be missing the point of others that there are some underlying issues that will prevent Thorp from ever being on an AFL list again. I don't know what these are, but in the current climate today, his issues may not be worth taking on.

News on Brock McLean and some mfc bro's.
Jerry Lundergard replied to fuchsia's topic in Melbourne Demons
Hopefully Gysberts can debut this week and have a cracker, just to rub a bit of salt into the wound. -
Surley you are not surprised Keyser, most who post here on Demonland are waiting for the day Dunn is delisted to have a giant Toga party. I think we missed him last week too. He may frustrate you with some silly [censored] ups from time to time, but i don't think you can fault his endeavour. I beleive he was leading our team in marks before last round, which tells me he has been a good hit-up, release man for us, which we sorley lacked on Saturday. He could have also been used to tag a big mid like Priddis who was killing us, like he tagged Brennan in the Brisbane game. I would definitely have him back in for PJ, and let him do some ruck duities. Who do think had been playing and contributing in our side when we have played well this season, that is currently out of the side? Petterd is an obvious, but won't be back. Bail definitley. MacDonald palyed well in our wins(and Pie loss), but also put in a couple of shockers. Dunn has been serviceable in games in a variety of roles. On the flip side of this, i think that Rivers and PJ are on the block.

I'll second these votes, they are spot on for me. There is no way Scully should get votes, his disposal was terrible yesterday. WOG is a tie between PJ and Sylvia.
-
You can throw Sylvia into this thread as well. What the hell is going on with him? Is he injured or just out of form?
-
And they hit him lace out on the chest every time he led.

I don't think Frawley was actually given a match up until about half way through the third quarter after La Cras had had about his 6th shot on goal. A light bulb must have gone off in the coaches box, "[censored], we may have to get Frawley on this guy!". Unfortunatley, the horse had bolted.

That game was like Rnd 1 all over again. It is pretty disappointing to go to a game and have literally nothing to cheer for the whole game. I mean can you remember cherring and getting excited once yesterday? My theory on why we are playing well against the better teams and poor against teams around the same mark as us is that the better teams just back themeselves to play their own game and beat us, and therefore allow us to play the game style which we want. Where as the lesser teams actually go in with a plan to stop us by bottling up the corridor(Eagles and Roos) and generally locking down on us a lot more, and we have not been able to counter this.

Can anyone explain why our best defender didn't line up on either of West Coasts most dangerous forwards(Kennedy/LaCras)at the start of the game yesterday?
-
If you have read Steamins posts regularly, you would know that he has had some decent mail on JW before, so i am fairly certain he is is an old school mate, or something of that description. And wouldn't you be a pessismist?

Top three CHF's to replace Ricky Bobby?
Jerry Lundergard replied to Alan Johnson's topic in Melbourne Demons
I think we may not see Watts any earlier then Port in Darwin. It already appears we are sheltering him a bit. So, as opposed to last season, i don't think we will roll him out on national TV this friday, and then back it up agaisnt the Eagles, and have all the world beating down on him if he has a stinker and NikNat is, well, NikNat. A season debut at the top end of Australia, far away from the prying eyes of most the football world will be the direction i think the FD will take. -
Which tall defender should play forward?

The Sherminator. -
Too tall this week! Not enough run
Jerry Lundergard replied to sylvinator's topic in Melbourne Demons
I agree. Crap decision to bring in Rivers. Apparently McKenzie had "general soreness", which i read as "we are a bit scared of Norths talls, and Rivers was BOG for Casey last week, was only dropped due to injury and is in our leadership group. So we will shaft the young rookie and bring in Riv". Why mess with what was a performing and settled back six? -
Disappointing to see the Saints rewarded with a win for playing such a disgraceful brand of footy. I know they did what they had to do to win, and the Doggies didn't take their chances, but they are easily one of the worst sides in the league to watch, and have been since Lyon took over. Hopefully the AFL takes note and bars them from any Friday night fixtures next year, and replaces them with the Demons.

I would like to see Dunn tag Wells. Wells can be a damaging player when left to his own devices, but rarely likes it when he is clamped down on. He has been used off the half back line a bit more, which would suit as we could use Dunn as target going the other way, and really try to exploit Wells defensive capabilities.

I tipped 8 also, but also put some money on it leaving out the Swans/Tigers game, and made myself a nice little gorilla off a $10 bet. What a great day yesterday was!

My 3 word player analysis V The Madelaide
Jerry Lundergard replied to joeboy's topic in Melbourne Demons
I was down that end too, and also thought Newton was poor. I know Dunn cops a fair whack on this forum, and he does do some frustrating things, but he was pretty good today. He presented really well, and what i liked most that won't show up in the stats, was a few of his real long gut running chases of Crows players just to exert a bit of perceived pressure. -
Live in Sydney & Support the Dees?
Jerry Lundergard replied to sydneydemon's topic in Melbourne Demons
Wish i had have known that last week when i was up in Sydney. I watched it at the Eskinville Hotel, and had to fight off the restless natives who wanted the Super 14's on the only big screen with volume which we had claimed earlier. I now know for future reference though, so thanks. Out of interest though, does the Hotel show all AFL games regulary, because i have agood mate who lives nearbey in Waterloo whose likes to watch his Pies(and other games) play? -
Where is Newton?
-
There is a plenty of "Bate-Haters" that rear up when he has an off game, and Saturday was by no means off, just a little quiet. I get the impression he is always going to be one of those players you either love or hate. For those that hate him, it seems they only ever see anything bad he does, and are oblivious to the good. Sort of like when i used to watch Daniel Ward play i guess. I am quite confident he will get it going pretty soon and hopefully have a few posters swinging round on their opinions.
-
FWIW, i don't ususally leave early, but on Saturday i left at half time as well. I can stand there and take the crap that was dished up to us, but i refuse to subject my 5 year old son to it. For those of you who don't take young children to the game, you probably don't realise how bad it is to sit there with your child and not have them even be able to watch and cheer your team kick a goal. That is the way they end up barracking for the other team.
-
They flogged us in the NAB, so I should hardly be surprised, but even the much maligned Dockers are looking like a pretty good unit. Good skills in close, hard at it, sustained pressure, etc. You know, all things we might have thought we were going to see at some stage the season but now appears unlikely. Suban, Mayne, Ballantyne, Hill, Barlow, Ibbotson are a good crop of young players who look like they have improved. Suban in particular looks like he is gooing to a gun for a left footed, hard running Victorian kid. Geez, i hope Blease can play a bit, because i am pretty sure Suban was taken after him and Strauss. It now only leaves us and the Tigers as the laughing stocks of the AFL.

Let's have some fun: what will Bailey say about today's game?
Jerry Lundergard replied to praha's topic in Melbourne Demons
"We just weren't competetive enough for long enough. We were good for about 3 minutes at the start of the game, but then we really let ourselves down....and our supporters." -
There is going to be plenty of opportunity for some of our younger players particularly early in the season with our spate of injuries. I was just wondering who fellow Demolanders thought was the most likely to surprise us and cement themselves a spot in our starting 22 when(if) we get all our players back? I am presuming he will get promoted, so i am going to go with Jordie McKenzie. Although he doesn't necessarily give us production that we don't have already(inside ball winning), i feel that he may eventually be able to do it a bit more class and precision than the likes of Jones, Moloney amd JMac. Most clubs have been able to unearth some real gems through the rookie list, and I am hoping the Jordie will be the next one.
