Today’s Drafts - The Third Crack
Off the Primary list = 5. Hore, Jetta, Jones, VB and Lockhart. Jordan added from Rookie List. Rookies of the list =net 2. De Classe and Nietscke (Jordan added to main list) CatB Bradke delisted Added to Main list via Draft = 3 van Rooyen, Howes and Woey. So including Jordan NET 1 down on main list we can fill. So far it looks like we can fill 1 position on the main list and 3 on rookie list. Also can recruit a CatB if we want to bring it back to the same numbers and set up as last year. Summery : Net 4 to add plus option of Cat B My guess only. Hoping for a ruck: Josh Cripps?? Could be an interesting afternoon.

Welcome to Demonland: Blake Howes
Good pick up at 39.

Tonight’s Draft - The Second Crack
Pick 50 should come back to 47 after the Saints and GWS use picks on Academy players. The Saints may have to trade a future for one or 2 picks if earlier than expected bids are made. We have a fair wait from 21 to our pick 38 so i expect we might try to package 38 and 42 to go higher.

Welcome to Demonland - Pick 38
Maybe Cripps as a ruck/forward may be the way to go with our 2nd pick if he is still on the board. Our only ruck Back up is Majak. If Conway is available he would be my first choice but he probably will not be around even if we package a couple of picks and trade up. I like our strategy of loading up with kids the last few years and needs this year. Tassy will be in soon/2 or 3 years? and their concessions will hurt the rest of the comp.

Welcome to Demonland: Jacob Van Rooyen
Good pick up. We needed a tall for depth and he is quality at either end. Higher probability pick being from WA where much more footy has been played than the Eastern States. So we had a good look. Wonder whether we try to trade up tomorow? Some quality apparently still on the board.

Welcome to Demonland: Andy Moniz-Wakefield
I think we will take him. We have a number of spots available.

Father-son selections
I agree, should be written into players contracts that the Club gets to select players partners. Sounds like a job for JT and team.

Dermott’s 2022 flag prediction
Tiges doing a serious rebuild with 5 picks in the top 30. Probably means if they are lucky, very lucky with their picks and development they could be a very serious contender in 2023. Depending also of course on how many of their ageing stars can hold up.

2021 Phantom Draft
If we have to use pick 57 plus change for Woey that leaves us with picks 17, 37 and 49. Pick 37 = 704 points, Pick 49 = 504 points. Combined = 1208 points Our pick 17 = 1239 points and pick 18 for example = 1201 points. So we do have a bit to play with to move higher than our pick 37 if we combine them for a trade higher. In recent years we have seen us be very imaginative and daring on draft night. Expect the unexpected.

Welcome to Demonland: Taj Woewodin
Cal Twomey on video from Draft hopefuls training today answering a question about Taj said we would pick 3 players in the draft with Taj at our last pick. He said Taj was around mid 40s. Its likely the then that we use picks 37 and 49 to move up a bit higher than 37 in the draft. Then use pick 57 plus change for Taj. Bulliies pick 23 allegedly up for grabs. Alternatively we may try to move higher than 17 if we have our eye on a player. The draft for us should be very interesting.

In Jason Taylor we trust!
Evidently she still has her teeth so its likely not the maggies.

2021 AFL Draft - Tall forwards/rucks
Fron SEN on Blake Howes and Josh Rentsch Blake Howes “Wingman from the Sandringham Dragons. 190cm and pretty athletic,” Twomey said. “He’s somewhere around the 30 mark for me.” Josh Rentsch “He’s a big key forward, a strapping lad from the Ballarat region,” Twomey said. “He kicks it a mile and reminds me of a little bit of Tim Membrey. He just gets the ball, clunks it and kicks goals. “He won the Morrish Medal (tied with Flynn Lakey). “He’s probably a second half of the draft prospect.”

Father-son selections
Looking forward Woey this year and Kalani White in 4 years? Not sure whether any others on the radar. I guess the club does not want any pressure on the young sons.

Welcome to Demonland - Pick 17
Road too the draft podcast has us picking up Blake Howes at 17. Cal Twomey' description (hes had him at 28 ). Kevin Sheahan picked him in podcast): Forward/midfielder 190cm/79kg 7/4/03 Sandringham Dragons/Vic Metro Howes' running for a player his size has been one of his key attributes and he showed that with his 2km time trial, with the Victorian clocking 6:08 minutes to place fourth among the Vic Metro prospects. Howes is a tall wingman who can also play as a third tall forward, where he began this season for Vic Metro. He reads the ball well in the air and is a modern prototype who can get moving on the outside.

Welcome to Demonland - Pick 17
Interestingly GWS recently stated they go best available except when they already have a surplus of that type. They have lost young players who cannot get get a regular game through a strict best available rule. When they are well stocked with the best available at their pick they now consider needs.

Welcome to Demonland: Jacob Van Rooyen
Chance to pick him up at 17 for sure.

Welcome to Demonland - Pick 17
I am tipping we pick a tall we rate that slips to our pick. Laurie barely played due to injury and COVID. He becomes in effect another 1st round pick in the Bank we available have this year. He is that small forward/mid type. We also need a ruck to develop over the next few seasons. Conway would be an option if JT and team are happy with his mobility and pace for a big man. That could mean using our 2nd and 3rd picks to trade up a little or he slips. He is the highest rated ruck in the draft but expected to take time to develop. When you come off a Premiership you probably look for any holes in the list that will be hard to fill with long term injury, loss of form or pending retirement in coming year(s). You then identify these players and try to trade up to where you think they will be picked. Probably why we have traded for pick 17. Likely have a couple of targets. I suspect we will be active in moving our picks higher. Last year we obviously focused on players with footy smarts and elite ball use skills.

Welcome to Demonland - Pick 17
I think we will likely go for one the rated talls KPP's if we see some slippage at 17. Would not be surprised to see us package up our 30's and 40's pick to move higher if there is slippage for a player we want. Given the number of available list spots i would not be surprised to see another delisted player picked up for depth.

Welcome to Demonland: Taj Woewodin
Woey is a cert to the Dees.

Welcome to Demonland: Taj Woewodin
AFL draft 2021: Melbourne father-son prospect Taj Woewodin impresses at combine as ‘nervous’ dad stays away AFL hopeful Taj Woewodin says his name 'doesn't mean much', and wants to forge his own legacy A couple of stories. The WA talent Manager basically says Taj is a certainty to be drafted by the Dees.

Welcome to Demonland: Taj Woewodin
Thanks, fastest over 20 meters at the WA testing. I read he clocked 2.89 and 2.9 seconds. Yet the draft pundits describe him as not quick? Probably because he plays mainly inside contested. Its a string to his bow the Development team can fine tune.

2021 AFL National Draft prospects: The next batch
Agree, the F/S at the pointy end of the draft always add a bit of interest as clubs want to trade back. No doubt clubs will be sniffing around some of our players at the end of next season.
