  1. Had GWS gone for Toumpas, we would not have taken O'rourke or Plowman. We WOULD have chosen Wines. Jimmy is a gun but feel for Wines.
  2. Many good ones still available IMO ... SA : Colquohoun, Vfl - Osborne , Vic TAC: Pongracic , Hams, Mansfield, Haynes , Ballard WAFL: Nelson, Warrell , Lowrie , Wilkins . Qld : Boston. For me, Sam Colquohoun has Elite skills and class, and Jacob Ballard is a ballwinner with a mature build. These guys are unlucky not to get drafted and are "good" rookie options. Plenty of good players have come through as rookie. They take the disappointment and drive harder.
  3. Saw Matt Jones play for Box Hill in 2012. Good pace, runs wing, half back. Thought he needs muscle ....and a rookie at best . Mature 25 yo ...not 20 as per Mfc website earlier tonight.
  4. Cats and Dees are big winners from trade /FA period
  5. Martin & Pick 58 to Brisbane Pick 33 to St Kilda Ray to Melbourne
  6. the AFL has no idea about the Free Agency compo. Its like the the MRC match review on the weekly basis. Arbitrary calculations based on subjectivity. In the MRC, your past record counts for the current situation, but not in FA compo. Oh well, pick 49 to Kangas for Cam Pedersen ... thats the offer now.
  7. Assume – off x10 to senior list Moloney and Rivers as Free agents Green retired, Delist - Bennell, Bate, Bartram, Jurrah, Cook, Petterd, Davis Delisted rookies – Lawrence, L Williams Assume –plus 10 to senior list Free agents: Byrnes Trades: Pedersen, Dawes Draft: - Barry, Hogan, Viney - Pick 4, Pick 58, Pick 65 used as Nicholson (Rookie upgrade) Pre season draft: - pick 3. Rookies: pick 3, 21, 39 (retain Evans yr 3, Sheahan yr 2 , Couch yr 2, Magner yr 2)
  8. hopefully a win ... but crowd size on easter sunday of 15,634 and a financial loss of $70,000 to start the year !!!!!!!!
  9. Farewell Jared. I liked his competitive streak, great bloke around the club and with my kids at clinics and family days, and played well for MFC over many years. Good luck at GFC.
  10. back on track / The Oliver Wines thread IMO he should be our pick 4 selection
  11. Post pick 4, MFC needs to boost the midfield. Here are some later players that I rate Ben Kearns (183cm midfielder - Gippsland) Had a very good 2012 in TAC. Versatile player as he plays mid/fwd role. Knows where the goals are ... he booted 5 goal in the 1st TAC game for Power. Good size and would be a handy pickup. Tullio DeMatteis (184cm midfielder - Norwood) Will slide to post 50. He has pace and very competitive. Looks to take on the game. Skills are solid on either left or right. Shane Nelson (178cm midfielder West Perth) the mystery of the 2011 draft. He gets the footy, has good pace and he knows how to use the footy. Had a good year in the WAFL and should be very very seriously considered. Sam Lowrie (187cm Sth Fremantle) Very good size for mid. Reminds me of a Lenny Hayes type. Yes big wrap but flys under radar. A real mid worker both with & without the footy. Watch the Jesse Hogan tape for a glimpse of Lowrie. Not at draft combine but at State screening. Braedon McLean (178 cm midfield - NT) shhhhhhhhh ... Barry on one wing. McLean on the other. Another NT speedster , he has real pace. Watch the Under 18's champs closely.
  12. back on track ... I think Jordie Gysberts will stay unless we can get a sub 35 pick for him. He has the ability. mental application & intensity needed.
  13. Agree the 2012 vintage "Oliver Wines" would fit very well into the MFC. If he went earlier, then O"Rourke or Toumpas would be handy acquisitions.
  14. 1. Free agent signing - Shannon Byrnes 2. #26 father son selection : Jack Viney ... what a sensation 3. MFC give picks #3 & 13 to GWS MFC gets Jesse Hogan (MD2) & pick 20 & Dom Barry 4. Brent Moloney - Free agent to the Lions 5. MFC give picks 20 & 45 MFC gets Chris Dawes (Pies) & pick 58 As at 17/10/12 (likely) draft picks 4, 58, 64, PSD #3. Rumours & negotiations: OUT - Jared Rivers - free agent to the Cats. GFC offer 3 yrs @$350k. JR has toured Cattery ...answer pending Jordie Gysberts - Cats were looking but now have Caddy so all quiet. Stef Martin - seems like no one is after a flexible ruckman/fwd/backman (!!!). GWS surely would be tempted. Maybe MFC could get a pick 44 or 62 (3rd or 4th round). IN- Darryle Pearce - early mail was he was getting a 4yr deal off MFC. Signed with Freo as free agent Josh Caddy - MFC was a very interested party. Caddy said "I'm not interested in MFC". Signed with Cats Sharrod Wellingham - MFC was looking at a Dawes/Wellingham package. Wellingham said thanks but No, I'm going home to WA. West Coast signed. Cam Pedersen from kangas - reports say MFC still very keen & awaiting FA compo pick. Farren Ray from saints - under contract and Saints say he is wanted. MFC was pursuing but will stay a Saint IMO. Ben Warren from kangas - question asked. I hope its a full stop as he is VFL quality only. Matt Thomas from Power - discussion raised only Scott Gumbleton from bombers - Mark Neeld has a 30 minute coffee with Gumbleton. Mail has it Bombers offer is 1 yr, Freo offer is 3 yrs. I hope we pass on the injury proned, inaccurately kicking fwd.
  15. Demons still active ... means - waiting on Jared Rivers decision (GFC or MFC) - we are waiting on FA compo pick to try to offer to NMFC for Pedersen - we will look to trade out Stef Martin or Jordie Gysberts - and whoever lease might be in our sights
  16. Welcome aboard Chris Dawes. He will help "direct" our play to a bigger, more competitive forward line. In 2013, with Mitch Clark and Chris Dawes, we will real targets. Go the mighty Demons
  17. Yes yes and yes. Forget Farren Ray. Broughton would be the skilled small defender we would be very keen for.
  18. Yes if we have a pick around 35-45, Leigh Osbourne would be my recommended choice. At 22yo, he is ready to go, very good pace and skills. Effective left foot. Highly recommended
  19. Again I think Whitfield / Grundy / Toumpas are 1,2,3 Oliver Wines is the our choice for Pick 4, as he is physically ready, loves the contest, can get the footy (over & over again), good skills, effective use of handball, and decision making. The fact that his character is A grade and he is good mates with Jack Viney are a bonus. He also has no history of injuries and so ticks all our requirements.
  20. Good post. I was "surprised" he was overlooked. I thought it must be a character issue, as he has talent and "gets the footy". One to watch for me.
  21. Matt Thomas does remind of having all the qualities of a good small defender. strong at the contest. physical. 2nd and 3rd efforts. loves to compete. In the mould of a Damian Hardwick style of defender
  22. The 2nd zippy forward is Blease. Had him as a sub but Tappy could be that man for round 1. Also I think Dom Barry, whilst a wingman in junior footy, may be a show in the fwd pocket in the early stages.
  23. Cam Pedersen for a (later) 2nd round pick 39 is just about right. I thought a 40-50 pick would be on the money. Anything sub 30 is a joke for a VFL Werribee B&F winner in 2012.
