What to do with what is now Pick 74?
spirit of norm smith replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
A steal at 97? An absolute punt !! I think Charlie Sprague (Falcons under 18s might be available) Saw his 2018 highlights and thought unlucky not to be drafted. Agile, great mark. Goalkicker Played for Barwon Heads senior team and as a overager in Falcons team. From the Falcons footy factory, he has the makings of a AFL player. Lachlan Potter (nth knights under 18s) - pacy running mid. Absolutely a classic wingman. Vic metro rep. Got injured 2/3rds through the year. You can never bypass kids with footy smarts and lightning pace. Likely to be drafted imo at 50-60+ but could slip. Would be one not to ignore Perhaps a mature age type Sam Lowson (Coburg)- 22 -small forward. Will Fordham (Frankston) -23 - tall running ruck Rover Hayden Schloithe (Sth Fremantle) -26 - solid running mid Jordan Lockyer (Subiaco)26 - 193cm full back - ex Sydney Swans listed / best defender in WAFL I’d definitely grab Schloithe. Ready to go. Past 4 years has been one of the best mids in WAFL. Will be a guaranteed player to cover any midfield role. Would succeed and cannot underestimate him given success of Pickett, Menegola and Kelly. -
Moderator. Not sure why Newnes thread is not within the Trade and Drafting posts. Newnes has great skills. Size. Pace. Running power. Exactly WHAT WE NEED. MFC WOULD BE MAD TO IGNORE HIM. SEEMS AN OBVIOUS FIT. Iwould offer a 3year deal and see what he is after.

Brodie Kemp (drafted by Carlton)
spirit of norm smith replied to Return to Glory's topic in Melbourne Demons
Agree. Best available and look beyond 2020. Kemp is worthy of longer term vision in what this kid could become. An absolute star. -
Doubtful. I’d draft him for his name alone and excitement for the fans. “BUZZZZZZZZAAAAAAAA”. Could light up the youngsters

Brodie Kemp (drafted by Carlton)
spirit of norm smith replied to Return to Glory's topic in Melbourne Demons
Kemp is Dangerfield like. That’s as simple as it gets. Can win it inside. Can burst clear. Can play outside. Can go forward and win it and kick the goal. Physically strong enough now to play AFL. 188cms 83 kgs. Built. His injury kills 2020 but providing rehab goes to plan then he walks in to our best 22 for round 1 2021. If we pass up, he’d be a steal down the order. Whilst I’d like to see Kemp drafted at 3, I know Young is a safe call at pick 3 and I’d support the safe call. Certainly if Kemp was there at 8, I’d be hoping JT is screaming out his name. -
2019 AFL National Draft Thread
spirit of norm smith replied to The Stigga's topic in Melbourne Demons
If Stephens goes at 4, then option of one of Kemp, Serong or Flanders works pretty well also -
Dees must be struggling given 17th and under tight salary cap pressure. It seems like Frost was jettisoned to fit in Tomlinson and Langdon. But we were after Elliott who would have been after $500k+ a year. Hard to calculate our true position. Lewis $$$ presumably goes to get Langdon in.

2019 AFL National Draft Thread
spirit of norm smith replied to The Stigga's topic in Melbourne Demons
Agree. I saw Weightman play three times and wasn’t overly impressed. Is a smart player and skilled. Not top 10. Probably worth a 20-25 pick to be honest. 1&2 Suns. Rowell and Anderson. I agree with many that if we keep pick ... then Nominate Tom Green. Giants to match. Uses their pick 6 up. 3-GWS Tom Green use pick 4 on Hayden Young. A very impressive skilled footballer 5- Crows:Brodie Kemp 6- Sydney: Caleb Serong 7- Freo:Sam Flanders MFC use pick 8 on Dylan Stephens, or Lachlan Ash. Pace into the midfield. I’m leaning towards Stephens. pick “96” may go to a ruck or tall forward option. -
Good call DD36

Yes like to keep Billy Stretch. Tell him two simple rules. Move quickly and play on. Kick it as far as you can. He has the talent and pace and endurance. His stopping after possession and chipping 15 metre kicks are killers. Just needs some confidence imo
-
Still worth a chat to Newnes management. He would be very handy. Good size and pace. Hard to see him at Saints with the new additions

The List: Post 2019 Trade Period
spirit of norm smith replied to Nascent's topic in Melbourne Demons
Yes. Five spots available. Look to get 1-2 delisted free agents. -
Martin is not a DFA. He is just going to be out of contract. Dees definitely need to work out a strong case to get Martin onboard. He is what we need. Great skills. Outside type player. Likes a goal and is a good shot.

2019 AFL National Draft prospects: The next batch
spirit of norm smith replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
Pick 3 As per prior, it’s Young, Ash,Serong or Kemp pick 8 Kemp might still be available here as his knee injury may scare off clubs. It could be likely Dylan Stephens (SA) or Sam Flanders. I’m not as sold on Weightman but can see how he might appeal (thought he’d still be a 20-25 pick). pick 96- speculative here as I think we will have a 3rd pick. It’s likely to be the last active pick so might be pick 70-73 as others clubs pass or await later rookie selections. Who could be the last pick as a smoky or a mature 21-23 yr old out of the VFL. I’d look at any sliders who were being missed (Lachlan Potter, pacy half back from the Knights or Charlie Sprague,19yr old utility from Falcons) but some names could be VFL types Sam Lowson (Coburg) or Will Fordham (Frankston, ex NMFC). -
Brodie Kemp (drafted by Carlton)

JT will have to be seriously considering calling him name out at pick 3 (or even pick 6 if the giants deal happens) -
Steven May might be able to have a word

How do you rate our trade period?
spirit of norm smith replied to Wiseblood's topic in Melbourne Demons
Got Tomlinson as a free agent. Then evaluate the trades. It’s probably a B- to C+ grade. Frost was given up for very little. Hawks 3 year offer backed us up and we folded. Still work to go 1- What’s the situation with JKH and Stretch. Delist or one year deals. Stretch should get 1-year. Jkh can walk 2 - nail the two early picks at 3 and 8 (or 6 & 8 depending on the dealings with Giants) 3- nail two delisted free agents or out of contract options (Martin, Newnes) 4- nail pick 96. !!! -

Agree. St Kilda gunned it. -
Dees need to get in his ear. He’s what we need. Silky skilled. Doesn’t have to be star or the chosen one. Play the outside skilled runner.
-
To check - we didn’t offer 2 year deal for Smith? Agree 3 years is too much
-
Get out the big suitcase. This guy is now highly gettable. PRE SEASON DRAFT. HE IS OUT OF CONTRACT. GIVE HIM 3 YEARS MINIMUM. MAKE IT HAPPEN DEES
-
Absolutely. We should nominate Green at pick 3 if the Giants don’t offer a good deal. Why not! He’s worth it. Dees should squeeze the Giants. Trade deal allows Giants to get a top youngster Plus Tom Green. They would also be big winners.
-
I reckon they asked Danger what Jenkins was worth. He replied “a future 4th rounder “ and laughed. The Crows then went well okay ! The Crows are rabble. Bottom 6 in 2020.

Dr G is on the money. Good diagnosis
