  1. [quote name='Nasher' date='Jun 19 2007, 06:58 PM' post='82275] I'm yet to see any person who has learned English as a second language whose only grammatical symbol is the ellipsis and doesn't use a single capital letter or the full spelling of words because of a misunderstanding of the language.
  2. Therein lies the contrast. Bate's pack mark on Monday in the first 20 seconds, plus lots of other efforts, and what he does with the ball (this also goes for Sylvia) demonstrated just what Brad Miller lacks, and always will lack. These others have passed him by well and truly. RR's defensive try out is the only option left if Miller is to be an on-going part of the first 22. (But who do you drop?)
  3. Sad but true YM. What I saw at the 'G' today was 22 smart footballers - excusing Davey's occasional lapses. Miller is now depth at best.
  4. He's a dinosuar. Thats WHY he's on 3aw - Radio Superannuation to the rest of us non-listeners. great player - limited view of the world.
  5. he was definitley designated 3rd man all day. Sylvia will catch out most defenders with his leap, and one day will bag 4 from the HFF position. Relieving in the midfield occasionally, he has now arrived as an important player for the team structure - in a big game too. Worth the wait.
  6. And most important, if we want to stag at the MCG, then we have to forgoe signage rights from that revenue source as well.
  7. Excellent point. More control and planning in the few minutes prior to us hitting the lead in recent games, like having a plan to shut down when in front with 2 minutes left, would have seen us 6 and 4, and still a good finals chance. The supports are the ones meant to go ape, not the guys in charge.
  8. [quote name='Kit Walker' date='Jun 5 2007, 01:12 PM' post='79068] After a quick look at the stats, interesting to see that Jones has made 47 tackles and only had 1 free kick for him this year. Doesn't sound right but if it is does that mean he's not that effective. Or maybe too effective!
  9. That statistic is meaningless. Typical filler from the Sun. The goals kicked is more a function of game style, center clearance rates, inside 50's etc, none of which have anything to do with Carrolls ability. Of course Rutten would be lowest, based on Adelaides game style and propensity to close down and slow down a game - we saw it perfectly on saturday.
  10. Very interesting background AS. What Petterd shows, despite QFL experienece, c.f. Gibbs' at SANFL. is the thing we all complain sometimes lacks in others. He has great anticipation and ball awareness, and consequently has time to make a good decision, generally, for his age. Not in Rivers league yet, but Iv'e seen him do some pretty serious spoiling when out of position, floating across a pack. One to watch and enjoy.
  11. About time this came up. BTW you forgot to mention Port Power. A winnable game lost if ever there was. IMO, duirng the Port game, the shots of the coaches box showed lots of excitment, dare I say barracking. Not acceptable from those in charge. This is a major flaw in ND's style. In Northey's day, the dees were never beaten till the siren. The reverse is/has been true for a long time under the current FD. Last year excepted - but then we had Brock McLean doing the job himself.
  12. [quote name='Pates' date='May 29 2007, 01:55 PM' post='77004] Big Jimmy Stynes deserved to hold a premiership cup, let alone should've been in a Granny.
  13. Let's face it, our last on-field leader of merit was the great Todd Viney. Our leadership 'team' of the past 7 or so years has been developed around who the best palyers are, henece a regular few ins and outs. IMO our continuous form slumps, losing streaks during good years, and losses from winning positions indicate this is a glaring weakness. I reckon Thomas will fix that.
  14. In my eyes, Nathan Jones is now on a level with Bartram as a newcomer, and we will here a lot about the Mclean/Jones midfield group into the future.
  15. What! Don't you mean "...gave away 2 goals through ineptness and murdered the ball when he had possession..." Sorry, that's more than 3 words. BTW - don't fire up about commitment, courage - he has that in spades, but it doesnt win games.
  16. Never a truer word spoken. The first 3/4's were rubbish, mistake ridden football. Nathan jones must have a crook back through carrying the side at that stage. I simply left the ground wondering, again, why can't they play like that all the time, do they realise they have strong marking forwards, where is the on field leadership when its time to ice the game. (remember the Port game) Anyhow, welcome back brock, he will only get better.
  17. Exactly Jaded. Countless times have I just wished we could do something original. Some great team performances over the 10 years of ND, eg 2000 Prelim 1998 elim against Crows Last years elim aginst Saints, but not enough of them, and never any certainty , always the fear that something will go wrong.
  18. I like your style. Welcome to the site. I have enjoyed my time reading and contributing. Some comments ; Whatever happens, ND should be treated with respect. Good point about Malthouse, and I too am concerned about Longmire. Some of these candidates seem to get a life of their own as the 'next thing', and mainly thanks to mentors, eg Carey's support for Longmire, Roos support for Lyon talking them up. I hate to say this but Grant thomas has been very impressive in the media this year, and he built an excellent team from the ground at the saints and got them into succcessive Prelim's. Millers last chance is as a backman. He will never cut it as a forward. Another stat-less game last week. 1.
  19. If you believe that you'll believe anything. Maximum Bob's comments earlier here , despite being 300 words are about right. The right path to rectify what looks like being the worst season I can remember will surely be on the Board's mind. but we don't vote them in to panic like many on this website. Action at Board level to bring in some form of radical change now is not an option, but planning for change at seasons end is.
  20. I cant' remember the first 7, but I clearly remember his first. Against hawthorn I think, and in his first 1/2 he kept the team in the game single handedly, kicking 2 goals and assiting in the other 2. I think only 4 were kicked in the first 2 1/4's. Showed absolutely no sign of being over-awed
  21. Not a stupid idea Jaded. Would a caretaker/mentor role for Daniher work, with a clear understanding that Daniher gets a 1 year only extension, with Voss to take over in 2009? It would be a probelm for ND that other roles may dry up after 2007 though.
  22. The statistical analysis by some here to support Millers case for touches is laughable, particularly compared to Robbo and neitz. I don't count goals at the end of the game when all is lost. He plays CHF for gawds sake. The single minded support for a player unable to understand a forward's role, nor deliver on the field is astounding
  23. [quote name='Demon2' date='May 13 2007, 06:19 PM' post='72707] i would trade Bruce while he has some value left... (sits and waits to be howled down)
  24. Two winnable games last week and yesterday. Brad Millers contribution - 9 possessions, 4 kicks and 5 handballs, third lowest in the team ahead of Neita and warnock. Wer'e playing with 17 on the field, and the FD needs to face reality. Times up. Come on in. No.7
  25. You weren't alone. That pathetic period in the second 1/4 I think when the Saints flooded in Swans style had me reaching for the remote control and a DVD. Its less painful to just check the scores of that crap the next day in the paper.
