Bombers scandal: charged, <redacted> and <infracted>
Deecisive replied to Jonesbag's topic in Melbourne Demons
AD probably let them know they were being investigated so helped them to decide to 'self report' to lighten the possible sanctions. So now they turn around and burn AD for trying to help them, what a disgrace. -
i think melbourne made the right choice in drafting Jurrah, unfortunately Jurrah made a few wrong choices with his life that spoiled it for both of us, sadly more so for him.
-
Selwood lifts his arm to get the arm to slip up around his shoulder, i consider that the same as ducking. His stats for head high or across the shoulder frees are an indication of how bad our umpiring is, as it encourages users to duck and to lift their arm so that someone will get hurt.

Matt jones could use a rest, possibly for pederson, Strauss in for Bail to see if he can produce.

Players to target at the end of the year
Deecisive replied to JackVineyForPresident's topic in Melbourne Demons
looks like collingwood will need to do some trading to get themselves a forward line. there maybe an opportunity there to pick up a decent player or two. -
I think we have more pressing players to dispose of than Grime at this stage, Grimes has some good skills and attributes, but needs to think more about some of his decision making and take more care with his disposals, not the worst on our list by far.

Hawthorn killed us with their running off the half back line, which kind of meant our half forwards were too loose and letting them get away. I dont know how many times this year i have seen opposition players run the ball out of our backline with no one attacking them. We had players running beside hawthorn players instead of putting pressure on them in one instance Tyson appeared to tell Matt Jones to chase the man with the ball instead he chased his man, the hawks goaled. We need to put pressure on the ball carrier. I was amazed at times that our players seemed to get drawn away from the ball carrier so often, or would not engage the ball carrier instead focusing on their own man too much.

did we move up or did GWS through their flogging go down?

Every player is different, look at how riley, Jetta and Dawes tackle why does the whole team not do that, because they are all different and have different approaches. If you look at lack of tackles have a look at some of our backline players who rarely tackle and they have the ball down their end more so that our forwards and wingers but they are usually pretty effective. Tackling is important but so is getting the ball and using it properly Watts did that about 17 times yesterday also 6th most contested possession winner, so he is in there winning the ball. The fact that he seems to do some things so effortlessly makes you want to see him do more.

Each of our players was playing against a TOP opponent and had team mates that fully supported each other, the analysis above would suggest we lost by 100+ points. A lot of players did not get a lot of stats but did their bit, i thought it was a pretty good team effort marred by our inability to get the ball into our forward line often enough and lack of ball skill which resulted in us missing targets and turning the ball over frequently.
-
he got the ball a lot more than most of our other players, he would be an asset in any team, our problem is we cannot get the ball to him often enough. As for rather having Dan Nicholson instead of Watts, oh please, most people seem to agree that Nicholson is probably going to be delisted at the end of the year, would you really want a players that cannot even make the Melbourne Football club's list than Watts. We get a lot of goals kicked against us from our turnovers, Watts rarely turns it over and his delivery is usually excellent, these are things a lot of our other players need to learn likewise Watts needs to learn extend himself and do more.
-
and is that a bad thing as opposed to giving deplorable handpasses and foot passes, or worse keeping the ball and getting caught. I think most supporters lament the fact that we move the ball on too slowly, so moving it on quickly 'to our own team' is good

Strange that there is so little love for Jack, He had 17 disposals at 94.1% efficiency, how many others got close, frawley had 14 disposals at 50%, Kent had 9 disposals, etc... Jack was far from the worst, he is an outside player but everyone is cursing him for not winning every contest. A few weeks ago everyone was cursing Maxy for his game at full forward, when the fault was not max's it was the way we were delivering it, today we delivered it to his strength, i.e. up high. Jack needs to be used on the outside to get be best out of him.
-
The way Hawks moved the ball we are lucky we only lost by 50 points. Team did pretty good, a lot still to learn and do but still a credible performance.
-
Give Watts a break, he is running all over the place trying to give leads and get into the game, only 6 players had more possessions than him, only 6 players had more contested possessions than him. Top for delivery efficiency. What does he have to do before people give him a break.
-
Why anyone would kick it to mcdonald inside the forward 50 to have a shot for goal is beyond me. Riley did well when he came on, hard at the contest. Max needs to stay up in the forward line, this at least meant we have forwards beside Dawes there which made it a little easier. Kennedy-Harris and Dom need to continue to be played, they need to learn. It will stand them in good stead for next year.

I think its fair to say that almost all melbourne supporters if not all wish melbourne football club to win every game they can, every week. Even if we did win another 2 games that does not stop the possibility that GWS, Saints and Bears etc could also win more games against others and we could have 6 wins and still finish last. At the end of round 23 we will be someone near or at the bottom of the ladder. I accept it for what it is but will reflect on the successes we have had in both increase in the number of wins, the reduced number of thrashings we have had to endure, and the fact that we may get greater draft picks and even the likely list clean out etc.
-
I think we could get close to the hawks. they have had their ups and downs and we seem to have a habit of bring the opposition down to our level a bit. Obviously roughy is going to be the main danger, that our our ability to use to the ball well and not provide too many turnovers. Love both the ins and outs.

Players to target at the end of the year
Deecisive replied to JackVineyForPresident's topic in Melbourne Demons
I dont think we can overlook the possibility of someone like Garlett it really comes down to us taking chances on some players who other clubs have overlooked or who are not getting the best out of them. Roos and co maybe able to do that with Garlett, having him running around enthusiastically kicking goals would be a significant improvement for our half forward line -
I think everyone agrees he gets a bit of the ball, problem has been his turnovers due to poor decisions or poor handpasses and kicks.

How lucky are we Chris Dawes said no to us.
Deecisive replied to ashdemons22's topic in Melbourne Demons
Dawes would be a far better player if he had the support around him and the players delivering the ball better to him. he was recruited to be our CHF with Hogan or Clarke beside him. But he is essentially our whole forward line now and is more often than not double tagged for the whole game as opposition teams keep their spare in defense,, while ours runs around on the ball. How many times do we actually get the ball inside 50 and what percentage of those entries are directed at Dawes in any way that could resemble decent delivery. When we get some of these other things right I am sure Dawes will do a lot better, the bloke chases and harasses the opposition players when a lot of our other players just sit back and watch or mind their own players. I just hope we dont ruin the poor bugger before he has a chance to show how good he can be for us. -
Players to target at the end of the year
Deecisive replied to JackVineyForPresident's topic in Melbourne Demons
We need players who set high standards who set the tone for the club, not just recruit young players who follow the culture and standard we already have. We have room for ROK even if he only plays half a dozen games a year he will be worth it. -
I think our defensive approach is often being over done by the players, i.e. everyone rushing into the opposition forward line then when we win the ball we kick it straight back out to waiting opposition players and no melbourne players anywhere near them. Which results in the ball coming back in while all our players are turning around trying to run back to our goals. Players have to still keep the channels to our goal open and manned instead of ALL of them chasing the ball in the defensive half. And in those rare times that we managed to get the next kick from outside of defensive 50 we have Dawes running around with two or three opposition players who just constantly shepherd him out of the contest.
-
Gawn and Jamar need to rotate between ruck and ff. Need to keep a small crumbing player near them all day. this will hopefully take some of the pressure of dawes, Watts in the half forward line to help deliver the ball into the 50. I personally like frawley up forward as he does seem to mark well and kicks a few goals now and then which is something we are remarkably short on. he also seems to make less mistakes there and any turnovers from poor kicking are usually out of bounds or points. Bring in Michie, Georgio and cross or Matt jones for his last chance to impress. out Tappy, Blease, Mckenzie, Terlich
