  1. i loved the fact that it looked like we actually scored more from Adelaides turn overs than they scored of ours. Our ability to score is at the moment hampered by our running another man on the ball and having our forwards running high up the ground at times, hopefully as we get better our forwards can stay at home more. Salem was a great example when he first came in the ball was in our forward line a bit so he was active, in the later part of the game when he came in a lot more of the game was being played in Adelaides forward line so he had to go a lot further to get a possession.
  2. a great win against an over confident crows outfit. fantastic that Roosy got the full 22 players putting in today and they all reaped the reward and hopefully give them confidence going forward. Dawes was excellent especially in the last when he was outnumbered 3 to one on multiple occasions and still won the ball. now those playing for casey have to really stand up if they want to get a game next week or possibly the week after as only replacements are likely to be due to injury or if the world goes crazy suspension. As for the umpires they look as if they are using a different rule book every week and you have to guess what they are going to pay or not pay. only melbourne players got pinged for holding the ball and not kicking 15 meters. again incorrect disposal counts for nothing now.
  3. he turned to take possession of the ball, did not look as if bumping was his goal. play on...
  4. should appeal, 93 points for that is garbage.
  5. Roos on the news stating that Jacks spot is safe.
  6. I dont mind the idea of gawn at ff, he is relative mobile and can provide a bit of a contest down forward, we obviously need crumbers around him as he is not likely to be taking a lot of marks. Adelaide will need to play a tall defender on him or risk him standing in the goal square and taking marks. Watts and Howe have to play and play well. it is not so much for this weeks when we play the bulldogs and tigers two of the few games we have a chance to win, so this weeks game should be seen as an audition for that game fail to deliver and its back to the VFL. Riley against his old team and working with Vince would be worth a try, he has shown he is hard at the ball and that will take some pressure off jones, viney, cross, vince and tyson. I would like to see midfielders rested in the forward line to provide improved crumbing option at the back with salem and frawley at the front with dawes.
  7. I do like the idea of Terlich up forward possibly taking Shannon Brynes spot, i think he would chase harder and would get more ball, yes he will cough it up a few times, but then so does brynes so no change there. garland into the backline. I would like to see Gawn in the side but Jamar has done enough to keep his spot. Riley in also. I would love to see some of our on ballers rested in the forward line, it is often less congested than the bench. I still not sure I like the idea of resting a players after he kicks a goal, i.e. have him run 75 meters to the bench, sit down for 2 mins and then run another 75 meters back to position does sound like it could take more out of some of our players than just staying in position.
  8. watts may have a good jump but a lot of ruck work is wrestling which is not really jacks forte. i would try him up forward with clear instructions on providing defensive pressure when the opposition gets the ball, even if that at times means leaving his man alone.
  9. Given the amount of scrutiny from the newspapers, tv, fans, team mates, and the general public I would expect this week if Jack plays to either spur him on or wash him up. After so much criticism and negative press if he cannot get himself to put in, (that does not mean he has to win but he needs to demonstrate desire to win the ball and contest) then nothing is going to inspire him. Dropping him provides him with an easy out by running him around the twos and possibly playing more lazy football because he is playing with casey. He can probably pick up enough touches to get selected again in the seniors but it does not mean that he has changed his approach to the game. He needs to demonstrate that he can play with the big boys, doing it now provides us with a better idea of whether to keep him or get rid of him at the end of the year because time is running out for Jack.
  10. Does anyone know if they have looked at using electromagnetic pulse therapy on his back, this has been used for years for the treatment of troublesome broken bones, pain, etc... the electric pulses are supposed to speed up bone regeneration and healing.
  11. I disagree with dropping watts, doing so is just being petty to punish him for our loss. He can turn it on and thats what we need him to do. Again I suggest sit the whole team down and go over the match tapes and have each player suggest what they could have done better in each situation. Jack needs to focus on what he is not doing instead of what he is doing. He stops to appeal for free kicks a lot more these days instead of playing on and on until the whistle. He needs specific training to cover his deficiencies or needs, more tackling more being tackled, more chasing. dont worry about kicking the ball and that sort of stuff. One problem I see with our team is that when the opposition have the ball our players start to look for their man, even if that means running away from the opposition player with the ball. They need to have greater awareness of when to go at the player with the ball even if it means leaving their man. Need to talk more we had a few players run down because no one was talking to them or protecting their back. Terlich while he does have a few clangers the thing that annoys me about his game is he is so slow to move the ball on. He holds on to it until force to play on loosing all momentum and failing to honor down field players who have offered leads. Howe like jack special training, no marking practice (though he could use some kicking practice) have him practice crumbing for a change and trying to lock the ball in. Jamar needs to work with his midfield so that we get more benefit of any taps that he wins, this is something that will only happen with more experience and them all working together. I think bring in Gawn for next week and play Jamar out of the square and Dawes chf and Frawley on the half forward flank or possibly wing so that he can feed dawes and not clash with him, it would mean we might get some more run out of him and he may find himself not so closely tagged as he would as a forward. we unfortunately deliver the ball to our forwards too often close to the boundary and when the opposition players punch it away it either goes over the boundary or to one of their crumbers, we need to keep the ball in the corridor so that our forwards and crumbers can come into the game more often and have more second efforts out of them. Jack Viney had a lot of clangers which while disappointing is a result of him burrowing in and just trying to get the ball forward and free of the congestion, problem is the opposition players often are well in front of our players and take it away. While the loss is extremely disappointing there is improvement and given the number of issues we still have with personnel, effort and skills there is a lot of room for improvement, so I think we are actually seeing some real progress. Lastly I would love to see Aiden in the team next week, he is an adelaide boy so probably knows how these guys play better than most which would give him an advantage in playing against them over others we could play. While he has not set the world on fire with Casey his performances have been good enough to take a punt with for next weeks game and that little extra hardness around the ground would certainly not go astray and you can be sure he would be keen a mustard to make Adelaide pay for getting rid of him.
  12. The swans had no trouble sweeping the ball out from our forward line. i thought quite a few of the Swans kick ins and passes out of the backline went through Jack watts opponents who were usually running well ahead of him, anyone else see this? I dont understand why our players cannot man up better than what they have been doing? I am amazed that we do not seem to be able to find crumbing forwards who can hop in front of or at the back of the pack, swans were able to knock it away from Frawley and Dawes all night long and have their players successfully crumbing? where were our forwards? Salem nice start to hopefully a long and fruitful career with the Dees. Lastly the umpires, we got caught last week with holding up ablett because some coach complained about tagging. This week holding the ball was a hit and miss affair. and god knows what happened to the incorrect disposal rule, i.e. throwing the ball, dropping the ball, etc. It makes it damn hard for teams to play good footy when the rules change from week to week or from game to game across the same weekend.
  13. The players know they are close enough to win this, if they keep the pressure on the swans.
  14. players need to move the ball on quicker, just too slow in picking the next option. Jack Watts needs to lift as does Howe who should not have missed that first goal. We maybe able to keep up with the swans if those players who have been missing in the first half can put in like their team mates have been. oh and the umpires being consistent and fair with the decisions would also help.
  15. I think we have a chance if all of our players come to play and play hard. This weekend we have seen a few good sides go down to lesser sides because the better sides were probably over confident and the lesser sides were more intent. We need to be hard at the contests to win. Good luck to Salem on his debut.
  16. Anyone know for sure if Salem is in or not, If everyone was giving salem high fives then it sounds as if he is in rather than out. Quite a few of the top draft picks have been playing multiple rounds, Salem sounds as if he is able to deal with the pressure so I see no reason to keep him playing for Casey, the more senior game time we get into these kids the faster they should develop. Also as for Jack, I think Roos has the right of it, if he is not going in hard enough during the game then give him extra tackling practice and have him tackled more at training so that he learns to tackle and he learns to better evade or cope with being tackled. No sense in dropping him when he is still winning more ball than a lot of players even when not playing brilliantly.
  17. I think we should be playing Salem this week, he has had a couple of good games and has shown he can mix it with the VFL boys and win. the quality of his skills means that he does not have a lot of things in the skill area to learn playing VFL the main reason you drop or play players there is to give them easier games to find the ball and to play themselves into form. Salem has shown he is currently playing in reasonable form and his history seems to imply that he players pretty consistently, so why keep in running around with Casey when some of our other players could benefit from playing there to learn how to get more ball and use it better. While Roos would obviously like to see players knocking hard on the door to get a promotion you also have to consider the opposite side of the coin are those playing in the seniors playing well enough to warrant their position in the team.
  18. We take far too long to take kicks period. In the backline on the wing and forward line as well as kick ins. Our players are not prepared to kick quickly to players in the open, I am sure Roos has stressed the need to retain possession of the ball to our players but this may actually hold them back from taking first options. The top teams get the ball and move it FORWARD QUICKLY even if its only 10-15 meters at a time. We hold it and eventually end up kicking backwards or along the line. Spencer has proven he is not very good at taking marks around the ground so we should not be kicking to contests with him unless we are sure we can force the ball out over the boundary. Our kick ins are pretty one dimensional kick it to yourself and run around the boundary to get a few extra meters and then kick hurriedly to the opposition. The team needs to develop additional set plays i.e. barrel down the centre being one that we all would love to see happen occasionally. kick to self and start to run around the boundary, have someone shepherd and then cut back towards the middle and go down the middle again. hurried kick ins, etc... We have a lot of players out there all seeming to play for themselves only, i.e. if Watts is the designated receiver than someone should be trying to block or hinder Watts opponent to stop him from contesting, we need players to work as a unit to get the best outcome for the side. JKH did this beautifully against carlton to allow dawes an uncontested mark. we see opposition players do it, why do our players not shepherd.
  19. I see no value in dropping watts for this weeks game. His worst is still better than many of those that we would substitute for him. What he lacks is not the skill to execute but the desire and attitude. This is something that he needs to find and hopefully Roos or one of the other coaches or team members can help him find it. I would firstly suggest a little bit of mixed boxing and wrestling, get together as much footage together of him in play or in the frame and have him analyze his own actions, what he did right what could he have done better to have an impact etc... and see if he can find the desire and attitude to put in for himself and his team mates.
  20. out: Mckenzie - one dimensional, facing his opponent instead of the ball means he is not going to add much to our attack and disposal/clangers and also umps are focusing on taggers and his free against kill) out: Jetta not tall enough, not fast enough, does not win the ball enough. out: Bail has been playing reasonably well for a couple of games but needs to learn how to kick and get involved more. out: Terlich his poor disposal is killing us. out: Evans, just has not delivered in the limited time available. In: Jamar play him in the square and use his us our decoys decoy, Dawes to CHF (seems to kick better from further out), Frawley to forward flank/Bails position In: Salem play him in the middle for Jordie In: Toumpas for Jetta In: garland for Terlich, or clisby if Garland is not available. In: Kent for Evans or Riley or Strauss if Kent is not available. In:
  21. If salem and Riley are finding form in the VFL then maybe playing them on our halfforward line may be a way of introducing them to AFL. they may give us more bite and give us a chance to rotate them through the midfield from time to time. Also is it worth playing Jamar in the goal square and as a second ruck, he can be the decoys decoy.
  22. We are a better side this year than last so far, the fact that we are arguing over so few points as opposed to the whole team is an improvement in its own right. New coach, new gameplan and lots of learning still to be done by all, including our players level of commitment to the team, skill improvements etc.. This year we went into the game with HOPE, we played well enough, or the suns played badly enough that we were in it right up until the last few minutes, something we have not experienced all too often over the last few years. Getting close made a lot of those small mistakes seem worse because if they had not happened then maybe we would have won. Watts did contribute but in the eyes of many myself included could have done better in the contests he really needs to work on his body work and tackling but that could be said of a few other players as well from time to time. Watching good teams play they tackle they hit you and they hurt you, if you have the ball you need to get rid of it or you will be crunched that leads to miskicks and handpasses and turnovers. That is not the brand of football we played on the weekend. Our players were protecting empty spaces not attacking their opposition players, our players ran chasing their opposition player away from the contests even when the ball was close to them and they could have impacted the contest, we spent too much time running away from the play all day. We spent too much time 5-10 meters behind the oppositions chasing which offered us no opportunity to tackle as they had usually passed the ball off by then. The majority of our tackles came in the stopages, not general play, not chasing and hunting the opposition. Too many players threw out arms and could not make tackles stick, though I think Viney was a little stiff in not getting a tackle stat for his pony ride on abletts back when he tried to stop him.
  23. I think most people are annoyed with Jack because we see the ability and skill of the man but we do not see the effort and determination to get the ball. When he does get the ball his skills are usually exceptional, problem is he gets pushed off the ball by smaller opponents, he looks around for free as if he is owed it because he feels someone has infringed on him, he has not woken up to the fact that the umpires are not paying all frees so you have to continue to play as hard as you can until you hear the whistle, just as Jetta who almost got his head pulled off without getting a free. People love jack but often see talent going to waste due to his apparent lack of effort.
  24. Nasher agreed there is risk associated with the play but there is also opportunity as well. Give the difficulty the mfc has had in trying to kick the ball clear of the backline over the last 3 years they need to do something different. How many times did we kick it in and kick it directly to a suns player, or to a melbourne player where the suns spoiled across the line. We are too predictable in what we do and the opposition just sits and waits for us to do the same old thing time and time again. You can mitigate risks by planning, practice and good execution. There is no reason you cannot set up a central huddle and have everyone then spread to the two flanks then have a few double back once the area is clear for the kickin.
