PREGAME: Rd 13 vs Collingwood
Here's a great article on the physical damage Dermot Brereton did to his body playing football. Can't help but think what we are doing to Max allowing him to play with limited support. Hawthorn great and media commentator Dermott Brereton has graphically described how he cannot put his shoes and socks on, and struggles to walk down stairs or shake hands on some days, due to the severe physical toll of playing football. In a powerful speech at the Melbourne Cricket Club, Brereton, who played in a famously combative style, detailed how his present life was impacted by injuries, how he struggled to sleep due to shoulder pain and that he was still feeling the impact of taking anti-inflammatory medications for four decades. https://www.theage.com.au/sport/afl/i-just-can-t-put-on-shoes-and-socks-dermott-brereton-s-crippling-legacy-20250606-p5m5ig.html

Hypotheticals on Tasmania entry concessions
Can someone remind me... Has the AFL agreed to underwrite the annual operating costs of the Devils in a manner similar to North, the Suns etc. Is there a limit on the rent that the Stadium "owner" can charge the new team. If it's a market rent the team will have great difficulty getting anywhere close to breakeven.

Hypotheticals on Tasmania entry concessions
Blame the strange voting system in Tasmania. If this was in say SA no party would dare go to an election saying no to the stadium simply because it would cause a 5% swing that could lose a crucial seat. Tasmania is more like the Federal Senate with each area (boundaries are the same as the Federal seats) electing seven members. Thus like the Senate the last two elected in each of the seven areas hold a crucial balancing vote. You don't need many votes to get those last two spots. What a "Devil" of a system

Goalkicking
Have often heard this "excuse" but it begs the question of what is the most important aspect of football especially for designated forwards. I'd sacrifice the odd strength session for intensive goal kicking practice

PREGAME: Rd 13 vs Collingwood
With Viney unavailable (fractured hand) I'd look at Jai Culley in place of Sharp or Laurie. His form at Casey has been okay without setting the world on fire

Goalkicking
Excellent suggestions. I'd also have set shot training with earbuds pumping crowd noises and other distractions.

PREGAME: Rd 13 vs Collingwood
It was around $1.6M for two games back in 2018 being the last year for disclosed figures. During covid NT reportedly withheld $1.45M in total from us and the Suns. So my guess is that these days it's around $800k gross which is probably $650k after expenses. We'd need a crowd of around 60k to make that money at the MCG is my guess

Time to go Goody?
Not the greatest coaching by Goody today. Lyon parked the bus and played rebound footy at which we failed miserably. Too many quick defenders pushing high leaving only the plodders to defend. The goal inaccuracy has become a coaching issue no matter what is said. Anyway the thoughts of final 8 are now over. Let's see if we can work on the gameplan. The big test comes in the first half of next season

GAMEDAY: Rd 12 vs St. Kilda
Yep Forwards should practice two hours per week goal kicking under all scenarios. Elementary you'd think

GAMEDAY: Rd 12 vs St. Kilda
Lyon has parked the bus and is relying on the rebound which we just gave him. Oh Goody you're not great at tactics

Yep and we know how that story ends. Amazing how we refuse to play the corridor

MFC rarely give you a stress free game. It's either the other team scoring or us missing sitters. Not much fun

GAMEDAY: Rd 12 vs St. Kilda
This is getting to an unenviable position methinks

GAMEDAY: Rd 12 vs St. Kilda
Conservative arrogance.... boundary line attacks and being smashed on the rebound

GAMEDAY: Rd 12 vs St. Kilda
Been debated for a long time. NT pays us close to $1M for this match. What is strange is that we are playing a Melbourne based club whereas in the past it was usually an interstate club. If played in Melbourne we would have got a crowd of 30-40k at most which would return maybe $200k. ( Around 25k is considered the unpublished break even number for the MCG). For me I like it as it helps avoid the killer game in Darwin

NON-MFC: Round 12
That Freo win did us no favours. When you're two games and percentage behind you need both to win three games while the competitor loses three. Not the easiest of tasks when Freo has two games against the Eagles and a decent home ground advantage. A long way to go. Hawks play the Dogs next week. A Hawks win puts the Dogs within our sights

GAMEDAY: Rd 12 vs St. Kilda
Binge shows the AFL when the game is on free to air. Where a game is not on national free to air is the grey area. Seems that such games are a "blackout". Makes sense otherwise but for Saturdays Binge would canibalise Kayo. Binge is in its death throes I suspect now that HBO has gone.

Currently 13 degrees in the Alice after an overnight low of 3.2. No wind to speak of with around 19/20 degrees expected by game time and bright sunshine.
