  1. The percentage of MCC members that are MFC supporters is I suspect falling year by year. By length of tenure and number of supporters you'd expect Richmond to be well up there and for Collingwood and Essendon to be on the rise. I know among my children's group about ten MCC members and none follow MFC. (MCC membership almost doubled to fund the Northern Stand so it's now biased towards 30 somethings.)
  2. No one's untradeable but we need key players not draft picks. The McVee contract situation has become comical. Unfortunately it's not the MFC's only problem in this area.
  3. Built a good set of Baths. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Baths_of_Caracalla
  4. I'd take Kelly on a three year deal with KPI's and a base salary half of what Buckley is asking. That would soften the Goodwin payout pain and perhaps give us room for another or a better assistant. Buckley will give us a one off membership boost of 10k. We all know that no one will give us a significant boost on the win/loss ratio. At best we're a 7-12 ranked team It's mathematics as to which coach is the better for us. The Board will never be criticised for choosing Buckley and thus I think he will be the one
  5. This is close to the reality. Little doubt that Tassie will follow the GWS model as against the Sun's model. Draft in and then trade the "good" but not best draftees for more picks. Meantime add in some senior journeymen. If they were starting this year Billing would be a good example
  6. Wow two Prime Numbers... we're away.. Sorry.. make that one
  7. Hey PF so last decade... it's a Limoncello Spritz these days mate. Hope you had a great time
  8. Good luck Charlie. As others have said you will always be remembered at the MFC as a key member of our 2021 Premiership side Very few players who reach 100 games and play in a Premiership
  9. They will have insurance but will it be the right type and for enough dollars. The bigger problem is going forward no one will insure them and hell will break loose. The Tribunal policies on head high hits aren't solely about protecting players as we all know.
  10. Not strictly on the Zurich issue but the Supreme Court today handed down a big impact decision in the world of AFL and concussion. Justice Keogh approved that allegedly concussed players formed a class and did not as argued by the AFL and Geelong need to sue the AFL and clubs on an individual basis. This is big to say the least. MFC can expect quite a few claims. In his judgment the Judge noted that Geelong alone could face up to 300 claims. Court documents do not name the players who have joined Rooke, or the 90 overall registered group members, but they did confirm that Margalit Lawyers is also representing AFL great Gary Ablett snr in his separate concussion case against the AFL, Cats and Hawthorn. While the class action still covers players who took to the field from January 1, 1985 to March 14, 2023, the initial trial will focus on the period Rooke played in the AFL from 2002 to 2010, helping to provide clarity for those who played before and after those dates. In his analysis of earlier arguments, Keogh delivered a sobering warning for the AFL and the Cats, stating that “there are almost 300 players who played AFL games for Geelong during the claim period and who potentially suffered concussions and brain injury”. “There is a real prospect of Rooke establishing that concussion is not an unusual injury for players to sustain during AFL games or training. Further, the class of group members in this proceeding includes persons who are in a close relationship with injured players and have suffered psychiatric illness because of injury to those players,” Keogh said. https://www.theage.com.au/sport/afl/afl-cats-fail-in-bid-to-quash-concussion-class-action-20250910-p5mtup.html This is perhaps a world first and will be closely watched
  11. His coat is glowing and he's moving freely in the mounting yards. They've removed the blinkers since his last run
  12. The NT deal used to inflate our member numbers as they "paid" a decent chunk of the price of the Darwin game in the form of 3 game memberships. That being said a few years ago overtaking Carlton was a faint possibility now we're not only back with the pack we're below all but North. I don't pay much attention to raw membership numbers as they are impacted by child and limited game memberships etc. What is real however are relative numbers. Love to see a ten year line graph comparing all the Melbourne clubs
  13. Coach, President and CEO We lost the trifecta in one year as well as most games of football. No wonder we are an easy mark. Ah.. I forgot Training Facility Version 4/5 or whatever number we are now up to.
  14. Such a mess on so many levels but perhaps the report card should just read... "Could do better" I get it that we do these things but seriously 2025 set the club back five odd years
  15. It's a tough gig Assuming you play one AFL game 60% of players get to twenty games but only 30% to 50 games. 100 games is only achieved by 17% and 200 by 4%.
  16. Woey seemingly survived... interesting
  17. But but... what about the cost of rubber chicken and cheap Riverland wines
  18. What do they mean by "the sub rule" is dead. Will we have five active players on the bench or four? Thanks
  19. Game is way too slow 34 minute quarters for 20min of football with perhaps ten minutes of action. I've taken to watching on delay and heavy use of the move forward button. It's not at NFL level but there's way too much dead time
  20. Thanks Must say I didn't notice him Even so I don't think he's the future
  21. He dropped off markedly in the last few Casey games IMO. He was killing it in the first half of the season
  22. If it's out on the full it was a free anyway but if you elect to kick the ball you have taken control so if it goes out you are pinged. The AFLW "last-touch rule" is a rule in the AFLW competition where a free kick is awarded to the opposing team if a player kicks or handballs the ball out of bounds, and it was the last player from their own team to touch the ball. This rule, which applies between the 50-meter arcs, aims to reduce stoppages and congestion, leading to a more free-flowing and higher-scoring game. If the last touch is unclear or contested, the umpire will throw the ball in instead of awarding a free kick TBH it could be a lot tougher thus discouraging teams that hug the boundary line such as us !
  23. sensible the rule was introduced when Hawthorn thought that obstructing a player and thus preventing play on was worth a 15M penalty. The last touch rule effectively over rides the insufficient intent rule which gives one less reason to criticise umpires. As I understand the rule the player has to have had control of the ball before it can be called an infringement
  24. Storm play Bulldogs on Friday night for a spot in the NRL prelim final. Unfortunately Storm have been hit with some key injuries. Tough game but win and they might go all the way. Lose and it will be tough despite their excellent season
  25. Looking towards next weeks game against Port who have a strange record. Only win was against the Suns who in turn only have one win which was against the otherwise undefeated Carlton. Port have scored 192 points which make them the fifth highest scoring team in the league. Not a push over I suspect on their home ground wherever that is
