  1. This could get ugly. Do you think they'll swap a few players at half time like in kids footy to even up the sides
  2. No It's about odds. In the practice match you have say a 10/1 chance that if an injury occurs it will happen to a top line player. In this game it's a certainty
  3. Odds on that someone will be injured. As the game involves the top 3 or 4 at each club the impact is always going to be severe. Is it worth it ?
  4. If no one "retires" do we have any spare spots? Of course if they "retire" it will be a full payout so any "new" player has salary cap implications
  5. $20M could buy you a decent helicopter service for many many years. Not as silly as it might sound
  6. But you do have freely available match tapes. Using AI to analyse multiple tapes of an opposing club you get a great idea of playing styles and tactics. In the past this has been done by humans watching teams in real time in preceding weeks or by film watching. How long until teams pay people to video particular aspects of another team. When I wen to the Soccer world cup I was amazed at how people video taped games. I'm talking of large tablets on mega selfie sticks (drove me mad)
  7. Just a guess but are we being smart in that we're offering to immediately vacate the MCG precinct, spend a few years in the Waverley wilderness in return for a heavy commitment of State Government money to an agreed fast track development at Caulfield. Now that might be something we could be interested in. Of course MFCSS tells me we're not that smart.
  8. Thanks R11 One more question : does the pass run for 12 months from purchase or until the start of the 2027 season
  9. Can you buy an MFC digital membership if you are already a "normal" member. I could of course buy one for another club or the Storm but may as well give the MFC a few dollars if I decide to go down that route
  10. North play an attacking game and they have a decent list. It's not a panacea. Going to be a tough year is my guess. Even tougher for Casey given the injury levels and delistings.
  11. It's almost a separate competition with standalone clubs playing 12 matches against other standalone clubs. Strange but I can see the logic (VFL not for this world much longer methinks)
  12. Yep... give me Port Melbourne, Coburg even Windy Hill and Vic Park anytime. Williamstown in the sunshine is a dream. Box Hill is pleasant. Anywhere but Casey
  13. F1 in Melbourne will get 400k through the gate over 4 days. Not bad for a race that most can't see and which only goes for 90 minutes
  14. The GF is losing its event mojo compared to Tennis and F1. Time to think about the build up plus if we're going to stick with a daytime GF the evening entertainment
  15. North will fold first unless it does a deal to sell a few more home games. Their balance sheet is papered over by leasehold improvements which have little value in the real world. My fear is that the big clubs are just salting away their dollars each year and incrementally they will pull ahead. The money goes somewhere if it can't go into players...marketing, media, exec salaries etc Of course we could be saved by their stupidity ie. West Coast
  16. It started at 3:30pm San Francisco time where sunset was at 5:42. The half time show was roughly at sunset.
  17. I thought Richmond was going there while they "redeveloped" Punt Road With the AFL purchasing Waverley Park off Hawthorn Football Club earlier this year, Richmond is seriously contemplating renting it off the League to move both football programs to train in Mulgrave from October 2026 onwards until the Swinburne Centre – which will maintain its naming rights once the redevelopment is complete – is ready. “Waverley Park is a live option for us. With the AFL purchasing that now, we have certainly put a stake in the ground with that. We have multiple options, but that is certainly a live option,” Dunne said. https://www.richmondfc.com.au/news/1878506/tassie-sydney-waverley-tigers-consider-temporary-move-of-games-home-base
  18. It's a hard one. A bit like the mid year draft. Do you take a chance on an undrafted player on a minimum contract that at best has a one in five chance of making the firsts or just save a few dollars. My guess is we save a few dollars and the spots before drafting at years end. As I understand this will be the last draft before the Tasmanian experiment. Casey could be challenged this year to say the least.
  19. I've been reading recently about these messages. Seems they are sending warnings but doing nothing. Needless to say that will change. Hopefully they go the Netflix route and allow the secondary user at a substantial discount. PS: Targeted advertising a la Google is the new buzzword for streamers. Not sure how they will get the info. I hate the invasiveness of Google. Search a product and bingo it's in your youtube feed for weeks.
  20. Other than F1 Kayo don't have a top line exclusive sport. If you were a Collingwood or West Coast supporter with most of your games available on FTA would you continue to pay. You really have to wonder about its viability longer term
  21. I posted this in the VFL fixture thread. Pay peanuts etc......... "Apparently the salary cap for an aligned VFL club is around $110k with a non aligned club at around $250k. The salary cap in the GNFL is $120k but I suspect only a few players are paid. VFL is not really the big time or anywhere close to it for most players. The SANFL salary cap for a non aligned club is $360k." https://www.theage.com.au/sport/afl/more-than-20-000-people-live-in-this-town-outside-geelong-its-footy-team-just-folded-20260203-p5nz9g.html

  23. Politics is about optics and perception. It will be described as an $Xmillion gift to an elite sporting club that reduces public access at a time when the budget is stretched and State taxes are the highest in the land. There is zero benefit to the Allan government unless you can tie it to community benefit. BTW get ready for the Casey backlash or as they say... why should we get more money when we already have Casey which at least is a growing area
  24. Grrrrr those Magpies always win !!!! An attraction to moving to accommodate tennis’ growth would be a new income stream from the significant short-term rent, but also the scope for the club to have facilities built by tennis for the Open which could then be used by the club for the remainder of the year. That could include enhanced infrastructure for fans and viewing around the training ground.
  25. Has been stable for many years for me. If your internet is prone to micro drop outs you may have a problem. This is simply because unlike Netflix where you are downloading and caching say 15 mins in advance of what you are watching live sport is more like 15 seconds. If you have NBN FTTP and ethernet connection you should be fine. Even with other connections you should be good. It's a monthly contract which is easily cancelled so why not try it for a few weeks before cancelling your Foxtel.
