  1. Would be interesting to see how recruitment teams go about identifying their number 37 pick. Do they have a field of say five or ten possibles ranked and then take the best available on the night. Ranking ten players in a definite order would be an enormous task. Do less and you run the risk that no player on your list is left or you've missed someone you thought would go at 25. Much easier at the higher picks as you know the academy and F/S picks etc together with say the top 5.
  2. It's owned by the City of Melbourne and is operated by CFC. I doubt that anyone makes money but it helps defray the expenses. Our game might attract 5k. Doubt that anyone breaks even but who pays.... also doubt we'll ever know
  3. Smith like most of the MFC supporters is an institutionally based baby boomer. Hell I'm one of them but it's time Not looking to pick an argument but the club needs rebirth. I'm thinking of moving on from this forum after thirty years but I'd like to think we leave behind a club that looks to the future. As many say.... Go Dees
  4. was thinking that when I read the first post. Perhaps it's like horses and they have different birthdays in the Northern hemisphere compared to the Southern
  5. Not when it's done by the same people/system Changing from within is rare Guerra for example is another version of Roffey if you take a step back. Will he be better. I have no idea but make no mistake he's a political animal/operative. Measure Roffey on any criteria and she failed. Some were her fault, others not but it was a failure. Sometimes you just need to try something else or at least put in some different voices
  6. Some good points Dee Zone TBH we've not been served well by the MFC Board for a long time. They have overseen chaos, confusion and crisis caused by themselves, executives and players. You can point to different people and causes for each failing but stability and confidence is rarely their strong point. My problem is that the same people and system that has delivered at best mediocrity (ironic that we had our only success when most of Melbourne was heavily locked down thus limiting normal interactions) is delivering our new "hope". You have to wonder whether the occasional shake up might be better for the club than the consensus model. Oh well we can but hope for the best.
  7. A win but other than Zanker up forward little to instil confidence. It was more hack it forward in hope
  8. Basically that is what the AFL asked of the MCC (State funded) in return for the 30 odd year deal on the finals. Optus in Perth was State funded. It's not that unusual save for the unfortunate fact that Tassie can't afford it
  9. Love the name but I've sworn off drafting high pick key forwards for life
  10. But we are at best a 30% chance to win one in the next five years so what is the alternative strategy to maintain members and perhaps grow. 1964-1987 killed our growth. Why will that not be repeated as baby boomers disappear (aka die)
  11. Meandering once more to mediocrity comes to mind. Not sure how to turn this ship around but it's fast losing passengers
  12. Not a beanpole and was on the development path (Western Jets) before heading off on his basketball scholarship. One to watch
  13. But if no one is nominated you have to wait for the ball to hit the ground. Similarly if only one team nominates what happens All it seems to be doing is doing away with the wait for the nominated ruck. (Confusion reigns)
  14. Have often said we should have a summer comp played in the NT featuring the indigenous teams. Teams could each have a couple of experienced VFL players. Televised. Conference system with play offs etc. Far more benefit to indigenous youth than playing the occasional game in Alice or Darwin at the expense of an impoverished State government
  15. No chipping the ice off your car on the GC
  16. Even 10th would be a great result. More likely 14/15/16
  17. Apparently Sydney are delisting Rampe and Lloyd and then rookieing them. 500 odd games between the pair... perfect rookie candidates
  18. Another last quarter fail Even last week when we were multiple goals up... zero goals in Q4
  19. Melbourne v Brisbane aka Casey v Ipswich Serendipitous
  20. I still dream of that third quarter his Dad played in the final against Adelaide. The father of another high draftee in his draft year warned me that Tigga was a bit laconic. What might have been. Good luck young Tigga
  21. AFL Bronze membership with MFC club support. (No waitlist for this level I believe) Gets you into every MCG and Docklands game irrespective of who is playing. Allows you to buy good tickets for the first two finals and often the prelim. Preference if MFC are playing.
  22. Bit of a nothing last quarter 6 behinds to nothing
  23. Still waiting for the right turn signal?
  24. Anzac Eve against Richmond is our big game. QB will be the standard pro-forma loss. The other wins I want are Essendon and North.
  25. Definitely players should be tried in different roles and given separate match tasks. The VFL should not just be about imitating the AFL gameplan. Even winning is secondary to development
