We'll be lucky to match that. Adelaide will play hardball in the extreme unless Port get involved. Ironic given that if the move was in reverse (Adelaide to Melbourne) you'd probably have about six clubs after him. We could of course pay a large chunk of his salary and "buy" a higher pick. Not a completely dumb idea

GWS v Dogs and Freo v Port/GWS are the real shapers Carlton could easily replace the Dogs and GWS could miss if they lose to Freo and the Dogs Similarly Freo are vulnerable Of course if Carlton lose to the Eagles this weekend the 8 is fixed other than its order

Eagles at $1M per year if he goes anywhere is my guess

Revisionist History - Luke Jackson to Freo

We traded LJ for two pick 13's. Luck saw Freo drop and the subsequent year's pick was 7. He was pick 3 and was at the time of trading clearly the best of his draft year. Freo offered a record contract. Yep we didn't do well in that trade if measured at the time of trading Looking at it three years later it looks better but would (could) he have made a difference in 2023? -
We leak all over the ground
-
The ease with which they move the ball is worrying to say the least. That last minute was diabolical
-
We have zero structure
-
Oh well Cats to go top 4 Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
-
Goal for goal slugfest Come on Freo
-
Come on Freo Win and top 5 are interstate teams !!
-
GWS please Just makes it that little bit harder for Geelong to go top 4 and of course if they lose to Freo it's almost a certain lockout of the top 4 by interstate sides.

Welcome to Demonland Matthew Jefferson

Lovely weather this weekend in Melbourne. Perfect days for the young ones to show their wares and we have a VFL bye. Love this competition -
They heard you

My perverse interest is in a fully interstate top 4. If this happens at most there are only two finals in Melbourne (first week) and the GF. Am I being unfair

the question to ask is how are we going to turn Casey into a decent development environment. For numerous reasons it has become almost dysfunctional.. often no ruck or midfield (besides White), a ground that is simply too windy with nothing done in thirty years to plant windbreaks, assuming Schache BBB Tomlinson go and Jefferson moves to AFL level zero KPP's left

Fritsch, Rivers, Oliver.... Hell some are in a counter universe

Nothing we haven't discussed but depressing.... https://www.theage.com.au/sport/afl/the-demons-stand-at-the-gates-of-footy-hell-these-are-the-five-mistakes-that-got-them-there-20240808-p5k0ms.html The slide points to a bleak future at Melbourne. The player list is ageing and lacking depth. For all the denials, the club’s culture is questionable, as is the professionalism of a team that only three seasons ago appeared on the verge of a dynasty. Coach Simon Goodwin’s game style has become predictable and boring.

We kind of guessed that Wouldn't everybody be happy if Darwin was the venue !!
-
Our future first could quite easily be around pick 6-8 in the last year before Tasmania enters. No thanks bottoming out for twenty odd years is something we've all seen and has nearly killed this club
-
Next step is best of 3 finals... Hell why not best of 7. That should give us football nearly year round
-
Yep How to fill the bye week and reward the higher finishing clubs with a week off PLUS .... more money !!
-
I'm surprised the media hasn't picked up on the likely absence of finals in Melbourne. Grand final aside it's quite possible that there will only be one

We are paying heavily for playing one game plan for too many years. Whether it be at VFL level, against lesser opposition or for times when we were well ahead (remember those days) the refusal to experiment was simply arrogant. That it was such a boring gameplan (I called it the python technique) didn't help. Anyway Goodwin is here for the next 3 years. Time to work on our plans post Gawn and May. I would be very disappointed if we spent valuable draft picks on Houston or the like to shore up the present list in hope of extending the window.

Not to mention two interstate Prelims

Terrible game by so many. Slow and sloppy doesn't describe the relative failures on every line. Not sure that playing at Casey when they are in this form does anything for player development. One standout was the number of broken tackles allowing run on play by the Dogs. Time to draw a line under this annus horriblis.
