  1. In keeping with the game at a time mantra we need Collingwood to have a big win over the Hawks. Could get us that little bit closer but it's a tough ask to catch 5 (Geelong) or 6 (Hawthorn) who both have a two game and a decent percentage break. That leaves only 7 (Bulldogs) and 8 (GWS) as the only teams we can replace
  2. If St Kilda park the bus we could be in trouble. Let's hope we get a decent lead in Q1 and the game opens up from there. If we are to go anywhere this game should be a regulation win
  3. Definitely need a Brisbane win tonight to aid in the Essendon finals demise
  4. Interesting article in the Age about our game last week. Ch 7 are criticizing Fox/Kayo for calling the game from Sth Melb instead of the MCG. I wonder where the call will be from for the Alice game. Calling a game off the screen is sub standard to say the least especially if they are getting the same feed we are seeing
  5. Little known fact Duke of Wellington when he was an unknown General in India lead an invasion force to take the Phillipines (Spanish possession at the time). By the time he landed in Penang en route, Spain had changed sides again and the invasion was called off. You have to love Demonland for a cerebral discussion
  6. I don't think so. It depends upon the game plan evolving. I've see the green shoots both at AFL and VFL level. We will have failures this season. It's the nature of the modern game. If both Tracc and Oliver have golden games post bye we might make the 8 but I see the first half of 2026 as being Goody's big test.
  7. Our competition is in the 6-15 bracket for those who like to play ladder predictor Lose on QB (she lives) and it gets harder. With 11 games completed it's looking like 13 and percentage gets you in. Our percentage is not great but some in the 6-15 bracket are worse. Someone will play a draw so it could even be more complicated. In the immediate sense we need to pass Essendon remembering that they have the extra game against the Suns at the end of the season. (Notionally Suns are second on the ladder at present behind the Pies by only 1%). Anyway let's hopefully enjoy the next two weeks and see where we are. It's a very tough backend of the season as others have mentioned
  8. I'm very concerned that we may not have a few spare weeks for "loading" before our finals series 😁
  9. Not exactly hot in the Red Centre this Sunday Cloudy with a minimum of 6 and maximum of 20 (No rain)
  10. Poor guy just has no luck in recent years
  11. Sums up my thinking. Improving at Casey is a tough ask when we have so many talls there as well
  12. Apparently Essendon have four spots open. The situation will likely change before the draft, but eight clubs have at least one list vacancy: Essendon (four), Gold Coast and Western Bulldogs (two each), and West Coast, North Melbourne, Port Adelaide, Collingwood and Carlton (one). https://www.theage.com.au/sport/afl/drafted-on-wednesday-play-on-thursday-the-players-dons-could-pick-up-amid-injury-crisis-20250526-p5m29y.html
  13. Pity we haven't got a horse in the race. I would not say no to giving Bonner a go.
  14. The old Alice has taken a battering in the media over recent years for reasons well known to us all. Hopefully this game can showcase a positive image and return some benefit to the town. The only time I enjoyed BT commentating was when he waxed lyrical about how you couldn't goal if you were further out than the tree. Not sure why we're playing the Saints in the centre but we all know the AFL works in a mysterious way.
  15. So true A pity they couldn't play a curtain raiser in the Red Centre or as you say at Casey
  16. Pickett 5. Bowey Gawn 3. Oliver Sparrow 1. Langford
  17. The Fat Lady is beginning to warble
  18. Oh what a feeling
  19. I'm having flashbacks to Clint Bizkits zone of indecision from 2023 when we would get 26 points up and falter. Let's get it over 40 and enjoy the last quarter
  20. 3:8 And 4:8 in the last quarter last week. I see a pattern Sherlock
  21. What is this accuracy (lack thereof)
  22. I know JVR isn't firing on all cylinders but surely he offers more as a back up ruck/resting forward than AJ ?
  23. the throw in has been shown to be potentially damaging to the back over a long period. Probably less of a problem these days with four umpires and the lack of intent rule meaning less throw in per umpire. No problem with throwing from 5M in. Meanwhile bring back the white coats and hats for the goal umpires (they were world famous)
  24. Looking forward to lots of colourful posts. According to locals Pattaya has slowed up in recent years so it's great that you two are back to boost the local economy. Enjoy yourselves
  25. When watching Casey I look for both team system and individual brilliance. Moreover I look for players who can find time and space on their opponents. The latter is essential to AFL success. There were flashes of all three yesterday but in the main it was sledgehammer tactics against a much weaker team. The first quarter with a stiff breeze was apposite. Shots on the run from beyond 50 and forwards leading to the pocket. Our exits from the backline were slow and often indecisive. Handballs were rarely used to benefit open players. In respect of the forwards. Sure they took marks against a beleaguered opposition but how many were taken by smart leads and running patterns that saw them make a break on their opponent. It's those skills that you need at AFL level as the defender will be miles better. That being said it was an enjoyable day on the grass verges watching youngsters playing gleefully in the waning Autumn sun.
