  1. Agree... Used to travel to Adelaide extensively for business. In the week of the Test match (before the pink ball game which is even more popular) you couldn't get a hotel within 30kms of the city. Airfare wise there are insufficient flights and airlines simply do not have spare capacity to add many more. Strangely enough I think it would work much better for fans and as a benefit to Adelaide if stretched over two weekends. Even better move it to Queensland in May/June
  2. https://www.theage.com.au/sport/afl/how-the-afl-review-became-an-orgy-of-club-self-interest-20240701-p5jqa0.html An interesting read... Some nuggets Unfortunately it doesn't mention what we asked for. At a time when heavyweight clubs are seeking more influence over the AFL Commission, the naked self-interest of clubs has underscored why the game still needs a wholly independent commission to judge what is genuinely โ€œin the best interests of the gameโ€ rather than in the interests of particular clubs...... If there were medals for the most self-interested suggestions, the Swans would certainly be on the podium with their idea of turning the grand final into a best-of-three series. It is noteworthy that this reality defiant idea โ€“ fully ventilated in the media by the Sydney leadership โ€“ did not form part of the clubโ€™s official submission to the AFL. Not to be outdone, Gold Coast chief executive Mark Evans went on the record with the far-fetched concept of playing the entire first week of the finals out of Victoria, irrespective of ladder position. Again, this was not a serious suggestion and was really about pushing back against those who wanted the Suns to lose their academy bid discount in the draft or other concessions. Then, the Dockers and Eagles floated the notion that the 10 Victorian teams could each take turns in playing a home game in Perth, as a means of equalising the vast disadvantage that WA teams had in their seasonal travel. This was another idea that seemed to be making a broader point about the Vic-centric nature of the competition. St Kilda, meanwhile, have been the loudest voice against the northern academies and father-son bidding systems, which is the hobby horse of Saints president Andrew Bassat and which Ross Lyon further questioned on Friday. AND this was the best: Carlton have been lobbying intently not against the imminent changes to the father-son and academy bids but for those changes, like tax hikes, to be delayed until the Camporeale twins are secured this November.
  3. One can dream. His father had such incredible talent but didn't put the effort in unfortunately. Good luck to the young lad
  4. We get paid around $800k to play in the Alice. Playing the Alice game at Marvel or the MCG would give a sub $200k return at best. Perhaps the Vic Govt would stump up the money and we could play in Mildura like the Dogs are paid to play a few games on Mars (aka Ballarat)
  5. we may well be unfortunately but a win should be easy but then again I thought North etc would be easy
  6. Casey play the Lions in Brisbane on Saturday. Will definitely be a weakened Casey team to say the least
  7. Yep Casey to play the Lions in Brisbane next Saturday What a competition this is
  8. Did I hear right... Casey to play in Brisbane next week?
  9. Nice coast to coast team goal
  10. ok here but not a great game in the conditions
  11. Casey do love the forward pocket
  12. The Gods do laugh... Next year maybe
  13. 7 straight kicks for goal in a quarter I'm in heaven
  14. From the AFL match website Since Round 12, the Demons have posted a shot at goal accuracy of 42.1% โ€“ ranked last. They have conceded a shot at goal accuracy of 63.0% โ€“ ranked last. Tonight they have a shot at goal accuracy of 17%.
  15. Accuracy is so rarely our thing Unfortunately neither is quantity these days
  16. Playing Woewodin, Brown and Tholstrup in a must win game? Good luck to them all. Like others I think Salem is doubtful
  17. If this season was not almost over from an MFC viewpoint you'd say that was a "reasonable" injury list
  18. The Afghan team is doing a Stephen May according to one forum poster.
  19. A lot of Casey's success pre 2023 was due to a core group of Casey listed players who provided a solid base for the AFL players. Most of them have now left. I suspect that is the case with a few AFL affiliated teams. Would you like to play football where your main task is to make AFL youngsters look good and be liable to being dropped purely based on the number of uninjured AFL players. And then there's the problem of rarely training as a team and being paid one tenth of some of your less well performing team mates. Strange competition... the VFL
  20. I'd be training him in both roles. Same with Woewodin and Brown but differing roles. Their role in this season and the next is as depth. To be a good depth player you need a few arrows in the quiver. Perhaps training as a tagger or teaching players how to break even with a tagger. On Jefferson if we dare I'd play him against the Eagles, put Petty down back and rest May. Unfortunately the Eagles game may well be the last chance saloon for the AFL side if we lose to Brisbane this weekend.
  21. No one really starring McAdam disappoints me as does Billings. Jefferson.. doing enough AMW.... not sure what we are trying to do with him
  22. A nippy forward would be handy. Where's our Chameleon ??
  23. That was a goal that went begging
  24. Our hit rate on these players goes a bit of a way to explaining our present woes
