  1. If the mega streamers come in they will try and buy rights to one game. Friday would be their preference or Thursday if Friday is not available. The issue is that Kayo would scream blue murder and threaten to substantially reduce its bid. Kayo (Foxtel) already pays the lions share of the rights money for a rather raw deal. Can't see it as the cost of providing a standalone broadcast and commentary team for one match for a six month period would make the deal highly unattractive. Then again Kayo could team up with the mega streamer delivering kayo a lower rights price for the gamble that the loss of one game to the mega streamer will not impact its overall subs. Frankly as WSW mentions I cannot see a mega streamer being interested in a one off deal in a small market. For them it just doesn't scale and would take up more management time than its worth (unless kayo presented them with a complete package wrapped in a nice bow.) Also need to remember that the mega streamers are hemorrhaging money and are not so ready to buy market share as they were a few years back.
  2. Thought he might be... Source?
  3. Agree As I said if I was the Bulldogs I would have traded JUH (to whom they are paying $1M) and got Weitering at $1.5M. They are failing in the backline big time but with a key pillar down back they would move up into the next bracket.
  4. Agree... this should be factored into the list selection and the annual plan for any player over 28. We need to think about doing the same for Viney and May for example If we can get these players through to 34/35 in top condition then list balance looks completely different. I'm starting to think that given injuries of around 5 players is the norm for most clubs our list sizes are perhaps too small by say 5 players.
  5. A bye would have been more sensible if this joke of a competition was better organised. Stupid fixture given that Lions AFL team are playing in Brisbane on Saturday night so they'll be keeping back players as well. Should be Brisbane v Richmond on Sunday morning
  6. I said 18-26 Salem aside. Depth is important. Turner and Hore are in best 24 Nothing much left at Casey these days JVR is a one week anomaly
  7. Should make it easier if anything assuming no massive community backlash. Our issue is oval exclusivity (even modified exclusivity). This proposal will include a degree of exclusivity so as a community softener it's good for us. Of course MFCSS suggests that we could become the AFL's sacrificial lamb.
  8. Sorry.. he's (Dusty) better off at GC Saints rumoured to have made a $1.5m per year offer for Weitering Should have been the Dogs after trading JUH https://www.theage.com.au/sport/afl/revealed-saints-massive-offer-to-make-weitering-one-of-the-richest-players-in-the-afl-20240514-p5jdj6.html
  9. Those injuries are piling up again. Sure, Salem aside they are on the 18-26 level of players but the tank is running thin when you add in Brayshaw and Smith as well
  10. Fullarton went off in the last quarter of the Casey game with what was later reported as a knee strain. I suspect he was off having scans yesterday so he could still be in the mix
  11. He's certainly in the mix. Most of us Casey watchers have him in front of Fullarton. Neither are particularly good in the ruck but Verrall is the better when the ball comes to ground. Marking around the ground they are both okay with neither starring.
  12. It seems that football ovals in the middle of race course is the new thing. AFL heavyweights have expressed an interest in building ovals and change room facilities in the centre of Moonee Valley racecourse under a long-term lease agreement. Such a development could provide a high-performance centre for umpires, act as a training base for visiting interstate teams and help service the sport’s growing demands at suburban level. Several sporting organisations – including soccer, rugby and a golf driving range company – were all looking to lodge submissions with Moonee Valley Racing Club as part of an expression of interest process to utilise the course’s infield. Submissions closed last Friday. https://www.theage.com.au/sport/afl/afl-off-to-the-races-league-could-build-ovals-in-middle-of-moonee-valley-20240514-p5jdhb.html
  13. Determined to take this game lightly. Hell we have enough hard ones. Dees by 42 or more
  14. Just saw that the game is 6:20pm Sunday AEST. Gives a new meaning to graveyard shift for TV watching
  15. With injuries and a few heading to Perth as emergencies we might see see Boy George back for Casey (We play the Lions at 11:05am at Casey)
  16. Given both Turner and JVR out BBB looking more likely
  17. 10 of the 14 eligible AFL participants outside the top 8 in the VFL Geelong the only top 8 AFL team to also be top 8 in the VFL 4 of 8 non aligned clubs in top 8. Will be interesting to see how the trends (if any) develop... (byes make interim analysis difficult)
  18. A couple of weeks ago in VFL our rucks often didn't go up at centre bounces so perhaps there's a precedent
  19. Ruck relief aside I'd be playing McAdam. TMac as stand in ruck relief with Turner dropping down back when TMac is in the ruck. Should win this easily. If not we have some way bigger issues.
  20. I think that the Geelong game may have been the only AFL game this season that we finished with everyone uninjured. It's that kind of year
  21. In a year of 50/50 games I enjoy the occasional stress free win. This will be one I'm sure. As the Pet Shop Boys used to say let's enjoy ourselves "Together" as we "Go West"...
  22. Kyle Langford can take a mark. Amazing development in 2023 by comparison to his previous 8 years on the Essendon list https://afltables.com/afl/stats/players/K/Kyle_Langford.html
  23. You would not be too happy if you were the NT Govt. Pay a million dollars for Gold Coast to play a match in Darwin and the AFL fixtures North and puts you up against a Vic TV match (Richmond v Bulldogs) that will get 80% of the TV coverage
  24. McAdam is the enigma. He played a full game last night. Didn't do much but then again few players did. Coaches would be closely looking at his positioning, ground coverage etc. For those who subscribe to the belief that the VFL is no longer a useful training ground for key players* this wouldn't be a bad game to try him out. Rest Chandler.. play McAdam and sub in Woewodin at half time if McAdam can't get the ball. * Frankly I have difficulty working out what role the VFL plays these days. Like us Carlton's VFL team is currently a cellar dweller so the old adage of being strong at various levels no longer applies.
  25. Good luck Casey I'm off now Was hoping for a little more fluency but... McAdam hasn't done much but he's still on the park which is good
