Gone... let's just hope we learnt from the Jackson debacle Unfortunately Port don't have much left in the locker pick wise So it's a player
-
Hope we also got $150k per year on his salary (assuming he is on $600k)
-
I'd always assumed the rounds go forever with clubs dropping out along the way
-
Agree The manager would have been given parameters including the salary chip in amount so it should be done. That aside a strange comment as it would have taken him (SOS) literally 30 seconds to understand the deal outline
-
Hi we seem to have fixed that 26 points zone of death in 2023... we rarely got that far ahead 😉 Looking forward to rediscovering the zone in 2024
-
This is the answer... Money !!! Give him the guaranteed dollars in 2024. Manager will tell him to take the dollars now. Not happy but if we want Petty this has to be done
-
Shows that top 10 picks don't mean much.. Even stranger how much clubs now value picks over proven players
-
Laurie will be traded next year is my guess. Probably Spargo as well (at his request) On Billings.. I'm a mild yes

Sydney-focused Split Round to Open 2024 Floated
Diamond_Jim replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
Getting very tired of the fixed fixture. It was one thing to have the occasional "blockbuster" but now the overly long season has become a compromised quagmire of mediocrity. AFL are lucky they have no competition. They're starting to resemble the Indian Cricket Board -
Are we being held over for the Wednesday night special. If so it underscores what a low interest trade period this has been
-
Left maybe 7 goals on the table
-
Better connection
-
Not great forward connection
-
AFLW match today is at the Eagle's training facility (I think). Looks great
-
It's the top 6 / bottom 6 that win you the flag
Diamond_Jim replied to deelusions from afar's topic in Melbourne Demons
Definitely top 6 Unlike 2021 our top 6 had at best ok finals series in 22/23 -
Prefer to see Laurie in the frame TBH I'm not sure how you ever play Kozzie, Chandler Laurie and Spargo in the same team (and then there's AMW)
-
As I mentioned in another thread many clubs will come for JUH next year. Probably around if not above 5 x $1M. Will Dogs have the money to keep him after the mega Naughton deal. They also need to recruit a key back Definitely a club to keep an eye on (and of course will Beveridge be there at year's end)
-
Strikes me that the clubs have lost control of the trade process (did they ever have it). Now it is simply a case of Player X of Club A saying I want to go to Club Y and Club A is forced to deal. The only buffer is how many years left on Player X's contract but even that seems to count for little. Were we to remove the need for player consent what would happen. Draftees have no say in where they go. Sure throw in some relocation costs but there has to be another way

That Casey forward line is looking rather crowded
-
Was on the ABC this morning. My point is that they may upgrade it free of charge to the Lions to say 20k capacity. The only other option is the Gold Coast
-
Rumoured that the Lions will re-locate home games to Springfield while they rebuild the Gabba for the Olympic Games. Will be interesting to see how that works. Not sure if it will be one season or two and then of course in the Olympics year I doubt we will see games at the Gabba post June so they can lay the running track

With Buddy gone Grundy could easily be the new poster boy for Sydney. Some good promotional deals in a two team city for the Big G.
-
Must say I agree. Not like Grundy was a raw draft pick that recruiters had assessed at an under age comp. There was thousands of hours of video showing his strengths and weaknesses not counting industry sources who could have been consulted. If as some have claimed it was overestimating Gawn as a forward it's an equal fail by the brains trust. Fortunately we're out of it with little cost but the final 6 weeks put keystone cops to shame Onwards and hopefully upwards... 2023 was not a great year football wise
-
If we trade 6 etc for 1 how do WC get Curtain? I thought he was a nominal pick 3
-
Agree but I doubt we have the currency for pick 1. How do we compare with the Hawks now ?
