Coronavirus: AFL & MFC
Statistically one player in the comp is almost certain to get infected in the next two weeks. That puts that team out. What happens to the points etc relative to the rest of the comp. Get ready for the first five rounds or so to be declared null and void along with the resultant outcry

Most Valuable Demon
Max is a useful player and in his role one of the best. Unfortunately his role is of declining relevance in the modern game. Grundy is his equal but there would be real debate at the Pies who is their most valuable player

it's okay though he just announced he's going to the football tomorrow (assumes he means NRL)

Rd 01: Weideman vs Jackson
Agree.. the mere fact that it is being debated demonstrates how disappointing Weideman has been.

so what games will thrive in this new world order. Solo darts perhaps?

Coronavirus & Other Sports
you have to love F1 race is cancelled but it's us taxpayers who look like footing the cancellation bill while the mega bore that F1 has become marches along. It really is a sport for dictators ... AFL on the other hand !!!

16-a-Side to Fix Scoring
Sense but if you are arguing TV coverage the faster the game the worse the TV coverage unless they give viewers control of the TV coverage

not sure that AFL exactly ranks as a national priority

Coronavirus & Other Sports
India effectively closed its borders today. If CV takes off in a land of 1.3 billion with less than adequate health care it will be a disaster. Have not read much in the news about how African countries are coping. There are indeed worse things than running out of toilet paper.

16-a-Side to Fix Scoring
Let's trial it at VFL level for two seasons. 16 a side with two interchange. Has the added advantage of reducing the cost of the VFL team. The 6-6-6 rule was ill thought through and had no impact because it wasn't fully trialled.

Swans rated 1 by CD and 3.by FF ... enough said

Injury List 2020
14 day Perth forecast showing a high of 33 degrees for our game. Not ideal to say the least.
-
AVB
Bad management to include four injury prone (spec) players on your list... KK, Bennell, Smith AVB. Sure you can make a case for each but the cumulative risk was irresponsible. There's no hindsight here. The injury histories were plain for everyone to see. If one of the four becomes a real contributor we will be lucky.

https://www.theguardian.com/football/2020/mar/09/efl-clubs-fear-for-future-if-coronavirus-forces-behind-closed-doors-games Interesting Guardian article on the possible financial impact upon English soccer clubs of playing behind closed doors "Consideration of postponing matches or ordering them to be played spectator free is understood to be balancing concern that gatherings indoors to watch sport on television in pubs could be more hazardous for the spread of the virus than crowds outdoors. There are also concerns on safety and policing grounds if fans were to gather in large numbers outside closed stadiums while matches are being played."

Injury List 2020
Smith, AVB, KK.... starting to sound familiar

Time the fence sitters committed to this club
MFC is not a good value proposition as a member. We rarely perform and have a history of just going through the motions. Harsh but true. Generational change is facing the club as the supporters of the sixties move on (or under). Sustained success is the only remedy and the odds of that in a controlled comp are low. Our saviour will be population growth but there will be bumps such as lower TV rights along the way.

James Harmes
Interesting to consider that after delisting JKH, Stretch and Maynard our midfield depth is quite thin.

POSTGAME: MS02 vs Hawthorn
great football weather for all our practice matches and our first round is Sunday afternoon in WA in the heat .... typical MFC luck
-
Rd 01: Weideman vs Jackson
I'd play Weid in Perth. More out of hope than anything else but we will need luck to win there anyway and perhaps he will be the beneficiary of that luck. Also I don't' want to see Gawn flattened by a run in the WA heat as our real chance is against GWS the following week. Jackson has already shown that he is a great pickup but quite rightly he needs to be managed. Like many I have watched Weid for years now and increasingly there seems a chance he may not make it. It's all before him but with Brown and Jackson not to mention Preuss he could struggle

POSTGAME: MS02 vs Hawthorn
Solid result.... The big positives... Tomlinson and Langdon plus the backline Midfield... solid Forwards... Fritsch and Melksham ... yes but the rest ??????
-
TEAMS: MS02 vs Hawthorn
Hawks at relatively full strength (injuries aside) Strange... a couple of years ago players were rested/rotated you name it during this part of the season. Seems to be a change in approach these days.

Coronavirus & Other Sports
Agree Hardtack about the numbers. Was on another forum where an epidemiologist made the following valid point: ( he was talking about Italy) everyone should keep in mind that the number isn't increasing because the virus is spreading fast. The number is increasing because more people are being tested and THE DISEASE WAS ALREADY PRESENT in the population. Expect countries like the US who only test persons with symptoms to have an explosion in numbers. Thousands have it already, but since their symptoms aren't bad, they just let it slide. The only way to confirm the disease is spreading fast is to have good random sample testing of people over a period of time. That's not what's happening...

Agree Vietnam banned Italians from their short term visa exemption yesterday. How it will impact their fist GP due in April is interesting
