  1. been happening for a while. Not much use having a dominant ruckman if you can't set up for set plays. Much the same with Preuss at VFL level
  2. This interesting surname is of Anglo-Saxon origin, and derives from the Olde English pre 7th Century "spearwa", Middle English "sparewe", a sparrow. The surname was originally given to a homely or chirpy person, Wonder if he lives up to his name
  3. and what would you do with Stretch... renewing all three could be a challenge
  4. JKH has had 30 possession games by the score at Casey... he isn't the future but admittedly he hasn't got much opposition for first depth midfielder. One or two of Maynard, Stretch and JKH will not be renewed
  5. was thinking the same thing It's become a scrum so watching in the rain is the same as the dry except the wet adds that little bit of unpredictability PS of course that is as a TV watcher where they zoom the camera in for you anyway. At the ground it would be a grind
  6. To balance it the commentator just mentioned that few are to the advantage of the Casey mid field... sounds like the same problem as with the MFC mid field
  7. Preuss with 50 hit outs to 3/4 time according to Casey radio
  8. and you are surprised Coburg kicked 5 or 6 straight last week.. the gameplan does make it tough going and they play the same at Casey
  9. looks like it's down... hope all is good with our illustrious Casey radio truck and crew
  10. Interview of Jeff Kennet on 3aw.... you have to give it to him.. he's passionate about his club His line on Tasmania is interesting (you need $50M to run a club) but he didn't touch on my favourite subject... the relocation of the Suns. AFL contributed $24 million to the Suns last year... half way there already and then you add the $7M presently contributed by Tas Gov't to North and Hawks. I'm sure the Federal Gov't would be happy to put in $5M a year given the marginal nature of almost every seat in Tasmania.
  11. Might head in and watch the battle of the birds at the MCG. Could be interesting and like the MFC games no problem finding a seat
  12. Hawks have 8 on their injured/suspension list against our 13. Hard to see the Hawks emergency making it down to Casey as the game statrts only 15 minutes after the Hawk's main game. Of course we have the travelling emergency(s) issue as well. Hard to see a win but hopefully a better game than the Coburg scrum. Casey surface is generally quite good but it's drainage is not to the same level as the MCG so it could be soft. I'll give it a miss today due to the rain possibility but looking forward to reports from those attending. It will be on Casey radio as usual. No TV that I know of.
  13. Wow... that brings back memories of the Essendon supplement case... obviously special rules for those boys... no balance of probabilities for them.
  14. But they are not booming.. measured as a percentage of population they are probably falling year on year. Add to that if you look at removing the four biggest attendance clubs the raw numbers are probably trending down if not staying the same. And of course the elephant in the room is the next TV deal. Foxtel’s cost-cutting represents an immediate challenge for Rugby Australia, a crisis for FFA in two years time and a problem for Supercars. Even the major winter codes, such as NRL and AFL, will flatline revenue wise and be forced to increase attendance, sponsorships and membership sales if they want to sustain players' salaries at current levels. https://www.smh.com.au/sport/australian-sport-s-tv-gravy-train-heading-to-the-end-of-the-tracks-20190514-p51nbq.html
  15. so for the experts which trumps what... the father/son or the academy? thanks
  16. it's over
  17. It won't happen but in the relative heat of Brisbane I would like to see Preuss played as first ruck with Gawn used as a floating forward/chf for say 60% of the game and ruck the rest. He could even sit in the hole around chb. We won't beat Brisbane playing our present gameplan and even if we lose we won't run Gawn into the ground. Let's be honest there is no small/mid size player demanding a spot so we may as well try something new. I'd give Hanan a rest. Goodwin's style is so slow and one dimensional Brisbane are probably lining up the MFC witches hats already for the attacking runs off half back.
  18. We play the saints in a month by which time Richo may not be there. He certainly has given Goodwin a coaching lesson in recent encounters.
  19. AVB was effectively signed to Sydney for family reasons and we changed his mind so we certainly wanted him. His ongoing injury is just bad luck and in the scheme of things something every football club endures. We may need to make a decision on AVB over the summer. There is salary cap relief for paying out long term injured players. Like many I would be disappointed if he stays next year and the injury is ongoing.
  20. was there not a year when 3 or 4 players kicked over 100 goals
  21. Oh.... we had such dreams then....... pity we have now returned to the norm of the last ten plus years
  22. Pity about Lever's absence. I was interested to see how he fitted in with Hore playing more or less of his intercept marking role. Time to get some stability into this team but it seems that each week brings a fresh (or extension) injury. Give's Petty some exposure in the meantime. Big three weeks for him.
  23. For those who watch these things what is the usual time on ground for our tall defenders. Does that require a "spare" and if not when one is off how do we match up? thanks
  24. Had forgotten about Petty but very good point. Notice that Collingwood are facing a somewhat similar problem with Reid and Cox.
