GAMEDAY: Rd 21 vs West Coast
this is why Goodwin needs to go. Who gives a proverbial if we win or lose. It's the gameplan and ours doesn't work

When Fritsch is your equal highest possession winner you really have to worry

Caroline Wilson’s article 2 August 2025
True but our management and Board has never been up to standard. Even when we had PJ the Board rejected his recommendation for the next CEO. We're forever paying the price of being a former low priorityl offshoot of the MCC. We all know we're going back to being a mid table team at best where we'll get excited about the mathematical chance of making finals. Can't even do a Richmond as our stars are way overpaid. On Guerra he's a speculative appointment at best given his non sports related history but the five month delay had flashing warning lights all over it when you combine it with the Chairman in waiting scenario

The Brody Mihocek Thread
You have to chuckle about the interest in a player like Silvagni. It does however underscore the failure of unrestricted free agency in that all it has done is push up the retention value of the better players

PREGAME: Rd 21 vs West Coast
Sensible Should have been the selection last week. May to be "rested" for remainder of the season

PREGAME: Rd 21 vs West Coast
The AFLW is a tough sell. I was surprised to read that the average attendance for the Women's EPL (probably the most successful league) is not much more than 2,000. The NRL seem to be doing it a little better. Women's cricket took 50 odd years to reach its present stage and below international level it's a media desert

PREGAME: Rd 21 vs West Coast
West Coast to officially request draft assistance.... Pyke will meet with new AFL football executive Greg Swann this week when the Eagles fly to Melbourne to play the Demons. While it is highly unlikely the AFL would consider a compensation draft pick at No.2, West Coast will argue for a range of options to be considered for assistance, including but not limited to: An extra draft pick early in the draft; draft picks the club has to trade; more places on the list; extra rookie list places; extra category B list places and the ability to retain players on the category B list for longer. https://www.theage.com.au/sport/afl/mcrae-s-had-a-first-date-with-jack-silvagni-now-he-wants-a-second-20250730-p5miz2.html

Time to go Goody?
But it's those three elements by which Board success is measured. Their job is to put in place a framework where a football department (including players) can thrive. If an element of the football department impacts upon the structure then change must be considered. You cannot ignore large drops in membership and a disappointed sponsor cohort who demand prime time TV exposure.

Time to go Goody?
It's glib to say it's all about trends but the problem is that it's so hard to discern the trends. I'm now trending towards a change whereas 6-7 weeks ago I was content to judge on the trend for the first half of next season. That last quarter has changed the background in a very big way.

GAMEDAY: Rd 20 vs St. Kilda
Nice forward foray frustrated by the siren. Fritsch playing a blinder

Liking the accuracy Long may it reign

CASEY: RD 18 vs Sandringham
A bit of a fizzer after quarter time. Inaccuracy and not great forward delivery. Hard to recall many successful forward leads. Good win but would have liked to see more system

CASEY: RD 18 vs Sandringham
Oh... the inaccuracy !!!

CASEY: RD 18 vs Sandringham
5 goals 8 behinds from quarter time is the only blemish

NON-MFC: Round 20
India have gone too far with their spinning pitches at home. Other than Bumrah their pace attack is pedestrian. With a billion people, over 40 States in their domestic comp and varying weather conditions you'd think they would have some up and coming pace bowlers

PREGAME: Rd 20 vs St. Kilda
Must admit that playing Petty forward baffles me. He's the obvious choice to replace May whose career is coming to an end. We have five or six tall forwards of varying ability. Play them in this irrelevant season. Laurie should also have got a bloc of games and resting/rotating Viney, Lagdon Langford etc. Bill might just click with the modern passing game but at least we would know. Jefferson should have got another week at AFL level to show form. Good luck to Oscar P in Belgium this weekend

NON-MFC: Round 20
Big weekend at Spa With rain forecast and both an F1 and Sprint race scheduled it could be a lottery in the World Driver Championship. (Go Oscar) After unexpectedly losing last week Melbourne Storm won a close one against the Roosters last night but it came at the cost of an injury to Storm's star player and winner of last years Dally M winner Jahrome Hughes. In breaking news: Melbourne Storm halfback Jahrome Hughes is expected to return to the field for the NRL finals now that scans on his left shoulder have revealed he does not need surgery. Hughes went down during Melbourne's 34-30 win over the Sydney Roosters on Thursday night, clutching his left arm after attempting to tackle Roosters captain James Tedesco. Melbourne Storm halfback Jahrome...Dally M winner avoids surgery as Storm receives NRL final...Melbourne Storm halfback Jahrome Hughes is expected to return to the field for the NRL finals, after scans on his left shoulder revealed he does not need surgery. And finally the Tour de France is in the mountains. After the Australian Ben O'Connors stage win last night there's not much time left for the contenders to catch race leader Tadej Pogacar

PREGAME: Rd 20 vs St. Kilda
Saints will flood our forward area preventing us from scoring and they will score on the rebound. In other words in soccer parlance they will park the bus. The usual counter is that we give them our forward 50 and play from the 75 metre line with low incisive entries. Bombing high balls is useless to say the least.

May to Tribunal
This is where the likes of Collingwood are smart. They roll out the "quacks" aka bio mechanic scientists etc but we put no evidence before the tribunal regarding an inability to change direction in the time available.
