smart marketing as well as rewarding loyalty. Many may like the upgrade and decide to pay the extra in 2022

Dees Reviewing Senior Footy Department Positions
Diamond_Jim replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
A piece of trivia...One of the leading cases on the old form of many clubs then known as unincorporated associations involved the Carlton Football club and the enforceability of a lease to the old Fitzroy football club. Some of the clubs were companies limited by guarantee. Then you had the wonderful incorporation of unincorporated associations act. The quirk I always loved was the golf clubs with the declining members that then allowed the few to sell off the clubs land for a fortune and pocket the money. (In the case of MFC I don't think that's open to us desperate members.) -
2020 equivocal... let me borrow those rose coloured glasses An injury free team that won one game against equal/superior opposition (St Kilda) by a point. Collingwood were injury riddled when we met them and we failed against every other team in the 8 during home and away for the third year running (except GWS in 2018). He's treading water at best. Glad to see you think he'll go next year if he repeats this year.. if not for the money he'd be gone this year and we all know that
-
I think that's more realistic
-
$100k per year paid by the MFC? No one will take him on those figures. $200k per year and you might get a nibble if very lucky. The problem with T Mac is that he was "fit to play" most of 2020 and could not make the team in front of Preuss and Brown both who would be on less than half Tom's money.
-
agree... a very strange quarter given the half time score. Geelong dominated but just didn't want to push it.
-
forget the pick for a moment....how much of a salary "dump" would you want assuming he is on $700k per year
-
Front ending of contracts can be dangerous.Just ask the Suns with Ablett. Rumoured that they lost a few hundred thousand because Gary didn't honour his final year. $1.7M front ended for Martin is incredible if true. Still nothing on salary caps and list sizes for 2021/22. Makes you wonder if the clubs know but the AFL wants to keep it secret until post GF. Sydney must be sweating for example as to whether they can pay out Franklin.

Goodwin's position this time last year and now are chalk and cheese as we all know. He now effectively has until the mid season bye next year and if unsuccessful Yze will be given the remainder of the year to see what he can do. Another performance like 2020 won't and shouldn't be tolerated. If by chance Goodwin is successful Yze will be into the next available senior coaching position which is probably North at the end of 2022 with a possibility of Adelaide or the Hawks.
-
The potential for conflicts between Yze and Goodwin are obvious. The dynamics will be interesting to say the least. Yze can't lose. Goodwin fails ..Yze gets the senior job. Goodwin succeeds ..Yze gets the credit. 2021 could be quite dystopian.

From the reservations expressed he's no Fitzpatrick but few are. Welcome back Brad Personally I would also like to see Daisy on the Board.
-
I see Chol got dropped for Lynch. I wonder if he would fit in at the MFC. Preuss to ?? and Chol to MFC

Those are Melbourne times so only 6:50/40pm in Qld. 30 degrees and a stiff wind predicted for each day so it could be a tough slog for the competing teams. Richmond and who knows with the other
-
Scraping into the 8 in 2021 is also a fail. We need a strong start to the season and we need to challenge for the top 4for the whole season.. I'll be content with position 5 or 6 but not scraping in. Needless to say we have to perform well against the top teams

Ah.. Cairns.... so many happy memories from 2020 ?
-
Not across it fully but I don't think many of their draft choices have gone on. Parrish seems to go in and out of average form. How about the others? Pick 7 in this years draft is around pick 12 if not later in a "clean draft" and they have the problem of no 2020 exposed form for draftees. A mini rebuild could be tough if they don't nail their draft choices. PS I had forgotten McGrath.

Saad has been saying he was thinking of leaving all year and Daniher was almost always certain to go. I wouldn't call it imploding but it's fair to say they are a 10-14 team with a downward arrow. Much the same as Hawthorn. Of course one has to remember they weren't too far off beating us a few weeks ago.

As you say it will be a border issue The other states are insisting on around 14-30 days free of any community transmission. For Victoria this is very unlikely given the history of this virus. The issue facing the AFL will be that they will want all their big games in the second half of the season when they have a chance of unrestricted crowds. My guess is that we will see the first four rounds announced at some stage in January/February and the next four will not be announced until the season has commenced. The natural thing would be to have mini festivals of football in SA, WA and Qld for the first four weeks assuming unlimited crowds. Perhaps four teams in Tasmania. That takes you to 18 April assuming a season start date of March 25. By that time we should know what the new normal is looking like for 2021 It would not surprise me if only for the sake of money that the Anzac day game for example is notionally moved to August. On a positive note as well as vaccines there are a lot of rapid non invasive tests being developed. If one of these proves reliable we could have a near normal 2021 while we wait for the golden needle.

Nic Nat will be 31 at the end of 2021 which would be the end of LJ's present contract. If you were LJ's manager what would you be advising him? The only thing preventing him going "home" would be our demand for a top 4 draft pick which WCE would have to trade for. I would be trying for a one year extension for LJ in the hope that he develops a like for the place (ie Melbourne). Two years may be just that little too far.

You are a very small minority I suspect. Most buyers are motivated by the attendance and then support I would think.(let me rephrase that..most buyers are motivated by apathy by virtue of the auto renewal process.) The clubs made it difficult to get refunds this year. The trick and lets's agree it was a trick of saying you could have your money back but you then went onto a waiting list for things such as the GF guarantee, reserved seating etc etc or even worse if you were an AFL or MCC member. Shoddy to say the least. -
Saad needs to make it clear that he will leave if not traded. Probably the only way to deal with Dodoro. We could have had Langdon for free (pick wise) so it always amazed me that we didn't do a play similar to Carlton

Strategic improvement in the way we play

Welcome aboard AD. There's an excellent thread on tactics that was started a few months back. I don't have the link but hopefully someone will put it up soon. Suggest you repost in that thread and enjoy the dialogue. The points you have raised are well worth discussing. -
WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - BEN BROWN
Diamond_Jim replied to Dee tention's topic in Melbourne Demons
harsh but almost true I had hoped some other team would take on 300k of Tom's contract but you could be right. We were dumb enough to take KK so you never know. -
Dodoro stuffed up Daniher's move and he's repeating the playbook for the Saad move. Clubs have to remember that restraint of trade sits like the spector at the feast if they become impossible to deal with.. Saad is worth at best a first round pick towards the end of the round.
