  1. Maybe some other would take him at $300k in the hope of salvage but unfortunately I think we're stuck with him. If Viney gets 5 years........ grrrrrrrrrrr
  2. If he was out of contract we all know what the answer would be. How to salvage value is the conundrum. My gut says trade with an offer to pay half salary and hope we can get a second rounder in return.
  3. The first week of finals is probably my favourite week. Four quality games is just about perfect for the armchair fan especially when they are played in different States under different conditions.
  4. Port supporters can sometimes be akin to Pies supporters on steroids. Hawkins was Fritsched....forced to lead deep into the pockets. Other than the easy one he missed the others were hard shots. Stanley and KJ missed easy ones as well Motlop !!
  5. The suggestion is a playing coach type role. Sounds like a contrived attempt to get him to 300. In normal circumstances I can see the emotional merit but unfortunately not now.
  6. Four(?) years for Jack and another year for Jones.... I suppose it makes sense but I think both are a year too long. When list sizes are reduced and salary caps are tight few players if any IMO should get more than three years
  7. Interesting if there is a 3 year clause given that the money in Europe if someone offered him a deal would be much higher. FWIW I suspect anyone if they wanted to could have walked away from an AFL contract in 2020 as the requirement to work in an interstate hub was outside the terms of the contract. For 2021 it could be different. Of course contracts for personal services are rarely enforced other than toplace the departee on gardening leave. That might not be good for MFC as we could have to pay both him and his replacement. Might be able to sue the Crows for inducing a breach of contract but who knows. The recent situation with Messi and Barcelona is fascinating.
  8. Lists reducing...salary caps dropping and we're offering an aged Hawthorn player 2-3 years Please tell me no
  9. If that is right perhaps there is hope to get rid of Goodwin
  10. Germany, UK (call them countries), India, Pakistan, USA, Canada, France (called regions) Malaysia, China (regions) Spain (regions) and the list goes on Have no issue with risk based quarantine but to base it on arbitrary State/Region lines is not what anyone else in the world is doing
  11. There is no other country in the world that has closed internal states off from one another like we have. Sure cities and areas have been quarantined and distance restrictions have been imposed but States.... not to my knowledge. Hogan came from an isolated hub where the players are tested once or twice a week..... the application of sensible risk based decision making has been overtaken by the mantra of populism. Must be a lot of "social police" in WA
  12. He's above the Wagners and Stretch and JKH from last year He does his bit but not a player many of us are emotionally invested in. Is Bedford etc any better... who knows
  13. In the scheme of 1-10 this issue rates around 3
  14. It's a close run race. For those who think Australians would never elect a far right Nationalist Government this epidemic has certainly been a wake up. Fancy cutting off Tweed Heads from the Gold Coast or Wodonga from Albury. I may have to avoid the finals simply because I cannot stand another unthinking commentator thanking Queensland for "saving" the AFL.
  15. agree... but it will be the highest money/term bid from Preuss' viewpoint The draft pick will be a long way down in the negotiations
  16. There's actually a debate in the big money sports of the EPL and similar as to whether you recognize player transfer values as revenue. The consensus seems to be that they are intangible assets and are therefore not brought onto the balance sheet other than in the form of cash at bank upon purchase and disposal. The other argument is that you treat it like trading stock If we were required to write MFC player values to market each year I wonder if we went up or down in 2020?
  17. Some of the footage predates 1966 definitely. Looking at the cars on the road the most "modern car"I noticed was the 1962 Falcon. I could not see one 1964 Holden which was an extremely popular model. Queens Birthday games were of course also enormously popular and had crowds rivalling the grand final. The chicken scene would have been the Myer food hall in the Lonsdale Street store
  18. The issue here to me isn't Viney... he's a very useful player. Rather the issue is can we get a similar result with a cheaper player (say Sparrow) and use the savings and the compensatory pick to improve the team
  19. I feel that Preuss' situation is similar to that of an assistant coach. If another team offers him senior game time we should let him go with minimal obstruction. It doesn't set a precedent as there are few other positions in AFL where there is only room for one player. Imagine being the reserve goalkeeper for an EPL team. Other than the money it would be soul destroying.
  20. the old 6 o'clock closing Did you notice the coffee cups at the nightclub...
  21. You could write a phd thesis based on that video In 1963 my family moved to the UK for two years. We lived in a middle class town about fifty miles from London. We were the only people in our street to have a refrigerator or a washing machine.Australia must have seemed like the land of milk and honey to so many.
  22. Perhaps neither.... It comes as the AFL floats the possibility of setting up training hubs for the 2021 pre-season, likely to begin at the end of November. In a normal year, clubs begin pre-season training in mid-November, however with a later grand final, this year to be played on October 24 at Brisbane’s the Gabba, it’s likely to be pushed back. The AFL is expected to make an announcement on the 2021 pre-season in the coming days. https://www.foxsports.com.au/afl/the-afl-has-given-qld-a-60m-boost-as-league-considers-spending-more-time-in-the-state-in-2021/news-story/2e6b887d47fdcd733b294b33d8aa39a9
  23. At the moment we are in the grip of a worldwide pandemic where we are told every day to listen to the experts. If the story is being correctly reported the best experts around are telling McCartin he has no greater chance of concussion than the next guy. Why so quick to dismiss the possibility
  24. It's certainly complicated. That's ten players who between them would receive between $6-7M before you add in the additional players mentioned in your second paragraph.. The present salary cap before the expected reductions is $12.45M. Under the deal struck with the AFLPA in 2017 the salary cap was to rise each year until it hit $13.5 M in 2022. This will now not happen and any back-ended deals are subject to review. Most in the AFL thought that post 2022 there would be another 10-20% rise in the salary cap but the golden goose (aka media rights) is unlikely to lay any more eggs of that size. Whichever way you look at it we are tight against the cap. Offloading TMac and Viney would of course change things dramatically.
