  1. You had me believing that WJ until you mentioned the winning margin..... 19 Points.... a margin that will forever live in my memory.
  2. No It was an AFL decision which could be vetoed by a 2/3 majority vote of the clubs
  3. Gil is quoted as wanting a substantial majority. Let's call the 2/3.In other words 12 clubs. North and Hawks will be saying no (at least privately) unless the AFL underwrites what Tassie used to pay them. That means you need 12 out of 16 and other than the feel good factor there is very little in it for any of the clubs. Will be interesting
  4. It wasn't for GWS and GCS
  5. Amazing... simply lost for words This year, the AFL has changed the day on which the opening game of the season is played. Instead of starting with the traditional Richmond v Carlton fixture on a Thursday, the league has opted to instead play the grand final rematch between Melbourne and the Western Bulldogs next Wednesday night. The game would have otherwise been played on a Saturday or Sunday. By moving it to Wednesday, the league has created a stand-alone game. A senior Sportsbet source told The Age and Herald their company alone stood to make an extra million dollars in round one because the match would stand clear of weekend events such as other AFL games, rival sports and horse racing. https://www.theage.com.au/sport/afl/the-afl-s-engine-how-gambling-money-underpins-footy-20220214-p59wa7.html
  6. Looks like Gil is trying to set up the clubs as the bad boys if the Tasmania team is rejected. .AFL boss Gillon McLachlan has made clear that it will be a strong majority of the clubs, and not the AFL’s “technical” rules or merely the AFL hierarchy, that will drive whether a Tasmanian team gains entry into the competition The AFL chief executive did not nominate a specific number of clubs that needed to back the Tasmanian team - which would be decided in August - but he made plain that this required a comfortable majority of the 18 clubs, saying it needed “the support of our clubs” to happen, rather a strict reading of the league’s rules https://www.theage.com.au/sport/afl/mclachlan-clubs-not-rules-will-decide-if-tasmania-gets-a-team-20220311-p5a40t.html
  7. National Cabinet has recommended that "close contact" rules be relaxed. When and to what extent will be left to each State. This will be fun if they adopt different definitions X can play this week in Melbourne and Sydney but not in Adelaide or Perth. NT... who knows
  8. just watched the last quarter of Round 23. Much more interesting 3QT Tigers 93 Casey 47 Olden with five goals
  9. nothing on the Casey twitter feed or their website Scores are from the Richmond twitter feed and as you would expect their commentary reates to Richmond players only QT: A thoroughly entertaining and fast paced opening term, which saw crafty forwards Cam Olden (3) and Jackson Bowne (2) cash-in up forward, finishing off the great work from up the field. I'm off to watch some Friday TV
  10. Tigers 24 Casey 7
  11. Tigers 18 Casey 1
  12. Found the Richmond side. Mentions that there will be updates on twitter https://www.richmondfc.com.au/news/1075985/vfl-tigers-name-team-for-final-pre-season-hit-out To follow match updates from Casey Fields, stay tuned to @RichmondVFL on twitter. PS I see that Weideman was training today at Casey so he is an unlikely starter this evening
  13. Just got an AFL email explaining how to do General admission on my AFL account. The hardest thing was finding the page to "sign in" to the AFL app which is the main gateway. Got there but it wasn't intuitive and I can't really remember the path except that it was first to the AFL app and then naviagte to membership which in turn took me to a ticketek site. Simple and easy.... no Very clunky.. yes
  14. Off topic but the examiners report from a few years back on VCE Legal Studies made comment that many students cited the Castle and in particualr the vibe as authority for particular contentions. I kind of like that... great movie and what seasoning !!
  15. Just bumping this in case someone who might go along has forgotten that it is on. Not sure if it is free dl4e. Hopefully Redbeard who gave us such wonderful progress reports from Princes Park can chime in as to entry cost if any
  16. Interested to see how he goes in this evening's VFL practice match at Waverley. Was watching the qualiying final against Brisbane last night and thought that Sparrow was having a quiet game until the last quarter when both he and Rivers really impacted the game. Tough midfield to break into
  17. You have to wonder how the grand children will ever play these dvd's in years to come !!
  18. The Carlton game was rendered irrelevant by the umpiring. Imagine if that had been Round 1
  19. Lot to be said for this You could throw in three byes for 6 teams at a time. They would be in consecutive weeks thus not impacting greatly on the inntegrity of the ladder TV companies would pay the same money as they would still have a 20 odd week home and away product so that's not an issue. With the extra byes more teams would have a chance of Friday night exposure Would the absence of so called blockbusters greatly impact attendance. Can't see it as the Derbies would still be played and each of the current blockbusters would also be played. Most of the confected dates could be retained given that there are probably around 5/6 melbourne blockbusters. I think the AFL have been shown with AFLW this year that more does not necessarily mean better. And it makes even more sense if you want to add Tasmania PS There's also the impact on the VFL. It's already a compromised under funded and under resourced competition. Another senior round would do nothing but add yet another bye to that comp.
  20. They certainly do. It has been the subject of much complaint by subscribers. Who even has a dvd player these days. At the very least they could sell them on a thumb drive
  21. The NFL has 8 home games per team each in a city of having populations between 2 and 10 million We have ten Melbourne teams so in a 22 round season each Melbourne team is seen in Melbourne/Geelong 18/19 times. The TV companies will like it but they won't pay more for the overall product as they are all bleeding cash. Is any game other than Anzac day a sellout? Even the preliminary finals are rarely sell outs these days. Why don't we just have a best of three/seven grand final
  22. No thanks It's nothing but a revenue grab Now if it was combined with a genuine "straight" draw I might go for it
  23. 6pm Friday at Casey against the Tigers Will be interesting to see the line up given the AFL match on the following Wednesday and the ever hanging threat of a player being excluded due to "health protocols." Will Weid, Melksham and Hunt play? Perhaps a half.
  24. In the North game and again last night we had little success in scoring from ground ball gets. Last night we failed to control entries into the forward line for most of the first half and the rebound was relentless. Perhaps a few more balls to the pocket allowing an out of bounds and a reset might have been advisable. Watching the home and away from 2021 that was often our tactic. Could it now be that with BBB we are prepared to go more direct. If so it gets you higher scores but it carries risk as we saw last night
  25. agree but we are getting well beaten in the forward half and not allowing time for our defence to set up. Goal or slow it down that is what is forward line play. Last week we barely kicked a goal from broken forward line play
