  1. As many have mentioned it's interesting that the media auction was all about money and to a lesser extent coverage. There was nothing about broadcast quality and growing the audience. A little cute of the AFL to insist that these matters are solely up to broadcasters. They also failed to address the role of platforms such as youtube and Instagram. A European soccer player hit 100M subscribers this week. It's very big money
  2. Other than JVR from about Round 14 and Chandler there's few if any you can describe in the VFL team as unlucky in selection. The fact is that the VFL team is a collection of decent players made better by three or four Casey veterans along with some MFC veterans, Mitch Brown etc Bedford had a few chances and didn't take them at AFL level
  3. The $15 kayo will be the first thing to go. It was a discount for old Telstra customers. Get ready for closer to $30
  4. A sort of Vale of Tears with several maze like exits leading to more tears until through a covid coloured haze you find the holy grail in the mythical city of Perth. I like it !!!
  5. It's not simple . Players presently get 28% of gross AFL revenue including the media deal. This amount is actually paid by the club and is re-imbursed differently according to a club's own revenues
  6. Wonder who got the China rights given the $10M or thereabouts that Kochie's Shanghai dream cost us
  7. It will stay but I assume it might move from Telstra to Foxtel unless Telstra is willing to do a sub deal.(Can't see them doing it given that they dropped the free coverage from their mobile plans). Let's hope WatchAFL improves its broadcast quality and is a fully integrated app rather than an expensive casting service The worst thing would be if a third party gets hold of the foreign rights
  8. The anti siphoning rules belong to another era. We are one of the few countries in the world still to have them. They were a sop to the powerful FTA networks of the time who could see their cash cows being cherry picked. (Think Kerry Packer) Pre pay TV we had one or two live matches broadcast each week on FTA. It was never Shangri La One day Foxtel will explain why they pay almost 70% of the fee for the sporting dregs of the AFL. (I certainly can't make sense of it.)
  9. I know it's simplistic but the players we need to target are those at the lesser clubs (ladder wise) who are ranked in that 10-15 group at their club. Forget they're contracted just get them to say they want to leave etc. Second rounder pick gets it done. We won't stay a destination club for long... we need to deal like one
  10. streaming was not included in the anti siphon legislation for the simple reason it wasn't thought of at the time. The rules relate only to cable networks. The catch is that Labour said and the LNP quietly warned that if the broadcasters took advantage of streaming to avoid the "spirit"of the anti siphoning rules the legislation might be amended to include streaming
  11. These broadcast prices simply do not stack up Foxtel has separated its sports product from its entertainment product Kayo and Binge so the traditional loss leader arguments no longer work. Unless the Kayo product is changed enormously.. increased monthly sub... occasional pay per view ($5 for Anzac day match for example) and of course ads. Hopefully the camera and streaming quality is improved
  12. I likened our 2022 wins to watching a python devour its prey. Slowly squeeze it to death and then into the mouth for the slow digestion. Bang bang bang was obviously the exception and I wonder if we will ever see it again
  13. We even duplicate the plan at VFL level week in week out. You'd think they might experiment occasionally
  14. Spot on and it took May out of play. Buddy was the decoy dinosaur
  15. Not the greatest weather forecast but a few degrees warmer than last Friday. Heading back to Melbourne in a couple of weeks after four months of 26-32 degrees every day. Looking forward to Melbourne weather lotto
  16. Hard to disagree... The games against North and the Eagles were ripe for squad use even if it only meant resting Gawn. Anyway it's more a subject for post season discussion but I have not been impressed by our VFL team strategy at all
  17. Did not think an aged team like Geelong could do that in the last quarter Well done
  18. You would have to say that on recent last quarter form Pies are well placed
  19. No we are just saying how 3 of the top 4 have a completely different gameplan to ours and their's appears to be succeeding
  20. Amazing how quickly a style of play can fail. We are the new dinosaurs already
  21. Trying to recall when they stopped curtain raisers. Must have been in the early 90's but it escapes me
  22. Not in the 70's and 80's for home and away Kev
  23. Kev curtain raisers were played in a different era Most weeks there were no reserved seats so crowds started to arrive at half time in the reserves to get a good seat. By 3/4 time the crowd was probably at 75%. In Finals it changed dramatically with only the unreserved MCC area having decent crowds pre match. Fast forward to now when the curtain raiser has to finish 30-45 minutes before the AFL match and 70% plus of seats are pre-sold and the game is being played before an empty stadium
  24. Perhaps but they don't help if the delivery and gameplan remain the same. TMac showed nothing last week while playing for Casey except that he got through the match. If playing another tall means that BBB can play in the 50 metre arc rather than on the wing it could be worth it. The reality is that both at AFL level and at Casey we often lack flair
  25. If the AFL team lose this week Casey will lose some MFC players for the GF (assuming they make it) Not sure who but definitely T Mac. Has Weideman qualified? Heaven knows about Bedford and his medi sub role
