Saints Sack Ratten & Appoint Lyon as Coach
Lucifers Hero replied to whatwhat say what's topic in Melbourne Demons
I would think Lethlean would have a bit to answer for. Has now been there for 5 years and as GM Football presided over the recruiting and re-contracting of Ratten. He presided over the list management strategy and decisions which included getting his mate Hannebery on a very lucrative contract. Hannebery played 16 games in those 4 years! And the recruitment of HIll on another lucrative long term contract. Tough for a coach to operate with those decisions which are like shackles. Another rebuild awaits. Another decade in the doldrums. Now, Lethlean is being promoted to CEO. Ratten gets the boot! -
Casey Demons Premiership Coach Mark Corrigan is off to Geelong
Lucifers Hero replied to Redleg's topic in Melbourne Demons
Not only are they luring players to their little patch but now luring football department staff out of other clubs I doubt there is anyone in the FD that is not an ex Geelong player (except C Scott). Becoming quite incestuous down the road! -
Trading Draft Picks for Salary Dumps!
Lucifers Hero replied to Lucifers Hero's topic in Melbourne Demons
Some clubs are lobbying to ensure that when a club are 'paid' to take player as a 'salary dump' they take the player's existing contract $ into their sal cap even tho they enter a different contract with that player which spreads that contract over more years. imv this is essential to stop the Cats fiasco where they get Bowes and pick 7 but effectively do not take on his contract. The idea of the 'salary dump' was assumed to help bottom of the ladder clubs that would have the cap space. There is absolutely no reason why the AFL didn't ensure that Geelong booked the whole of Bowes GCS contract into their TPP. If a club doesn't have the cap space they should not be putting in for a 'sal dump' trade. Mega fail by the AFL. #freekickgeelong. -
Updated for Baker's delisting. Assuming the existing list mix of the list: 36 senior, 6 A-Rookies we have 2 senior spots and 3 A-Rookie list spots available. That mix can change as outline in the chart (bottom left corner). Given we plan to take two picks in the draft any DFA we recruit would come in as an A-Rookie. The number of games will be updated with the final version after the draft. Edit: Updated Oct 15 for Hunter (2 years) and Schache (one) contract length as per 'Footywire'.

They were the rules until 2020 and the AFL changed them to allow more picks than list spots supposedly to help during covid. Ironically it helped just a few clubs. Terrible situation in a supposedly equalised league. Without going too MFCSS, you can bet that they will close that loophole when we need picks for Brown just like the NGA rule changes were the year we were due to draft Andrew Mac! We could sure do with him now as a developing ruckman!

Haven't seen that but if there is a report for that I'm happy to change the chart.

2022: 53 and 63 2023: Rnd 2 (tied to Coll), Rnd 3 (tied to Freo) Hmm, not sure how they managed to trade out rnd 4 and rnd 1 next year as technically that isn't allowed. But the data on the AFL website may not have been updated for the flurry of late trades. Oh well, slim pickings for them this year. They will have to trade out players next year to avoid the same. Both Hardwick and Dusty are out of contract in 2024. Maybe he is going all out for another premiership in the next two years then perhaps move on?

The AFL has a max list size of 42 players (plus 2 B-Rookies) so to get the DFA ruckman and 2 draftees we would need to have one less A- Rookie compared to the 2022 mix.

I like the cheeky chip at Geelong: Don't all the players go there!
-
Post Trade Week A lot to unpack there. Some contract info still to come and those players are in the boxes shaded 'orange'. I think we will lose Baker as we are getting tight for senior spots. Based on the current mix we have one spot left unless we go in with more senior players next year. Updated for the departure of Sam Weideman and the arrival of Grundy, Schache and Hunter. I've included the Draft picks for 2022/23. We have a very nice little pot to play with: 13, 37. Freo F1, F2 and our own F1, F2. Amazing to get the calibre of players we have for late draft picks and the loss of loyal servants who deserve to chase opportunities elsewhere: Bedford, Hunt and Weideman. And of course there is the wantaway ruckman! On balance we have greatly improved our list.

The Dunkley trade: Brisbane receives Josh Dunkley, a future third-round selection and a future fourth-round selection (tied to Melbourne) Western Bulldogs receive a second-round pick (currently No.21), a future first-round selection, a future second-round selection and a future fourth-round selection (tied to Geelong) Thought the F4 swap interesting. One tied to Geelong, one tied to us. It will probably be pick 60 something for pick 60 something and the advantage could go either way. Hardly worth swapping.
-
If we stick to the 36 senior and 6 A-Rookie mix for our 42 allowed players we have 1 senior list spot left and 3 A-Rookies. So a high probability that Baker will be delisted but could come back as a rookie if not picked up elsewhere. My hunch is the former.
-
Probably one on each side.
-
Reckon the AFL needs to go further, especially now that in contract new draftees are wanting to 'go home' or pre draft players won't even sign up. They probably all want to go to top 8 teams.
-
F1 is future first round pick, F2 is future second round pick etc etc. And you are correct both are tie to Freo's final positon.
-
That is understandable. He played only 10 games this year.

Several players at the top end of this year’s AFL draft pool are considered flight risks, limiting the ability of some clubs to land the best talent available with their picks. A growing number of players are unwilling to be drafted to clubs outside their home states, and according to one recruiting boss, some are even outright saying that they want to avoid moving interstate in pre-draft discussions. fewer-players-to-chose-from-flight-risks-affecting-afl-draft This has to be a red flag for the AFL in terms of draft integrity and not letting new draftees change clubs especially when still under contract.
-
No problem. Draft picks can be swapped right up until just before the draft. Then again on during the draft.

You can change it. Go into your account. Chose 'Account Settings'. Lots of info appears one of which is 'Display Name' along side which is 'change'. Click on it and away you go

From AFL trade update: Dees' busy trade period Melbourne only began chatting to Josh Schache three days before completing a trade for the former No.2 draft pick. The Demons got the ball rolling early on Wednesday's trade deadline day by executing deals that farewelled Sam Weideman to Essendon and welcomed Schache from the Western Bulldogs. Speaking on Continental Tyres AFL Trade Radio, Melbourne's list manager Tim Lamb said the deals were inked, only agreeing to Weideman's trade request once they had a "similar type player" on the hook. "We spoke with Josh on Sunday," Lamb said. "Josh is a player with great versatility. He's 200cm, he's an elite runner, really well skilled, (he) can play forward, back, ruck, he's really versatile. "With Mitch Brown retiring, Majak Daw retiring, we've lost a little bit of depth in our talls department."

I would be surprised. Eagles couldn't prise him out of Port as part of the Rioli deal and Georgiades is from WA.
-
How old is he?
-
F3 perhaps?
