  1. More like 3/4 * $250-$300. Usually, the longer the term the less money. Freo offered Acres about $150-200k, grossly undervaluing him (to help get Jackson). They upped it a little bit but he went to Carlton anyway: "Acres is one of a number of Fremantle players who were offered below-par contracts to stay at the club, with the Blues pouncing on the chance to secure the 26-year-old on a three-year deal at around $350,000 per season". Just can't see Rivers who is still only 21 and yet to cement himself in the best 22 getting the same as Acres. I think as fans we tend to overestimate what players get paid especially those outside the top 5-10.
  2. Going by his comment it is safe to say Rivers will extend his own contract which expires this year.πŸ™‚
  3. What can one say? On the one hand I wish you could be at the G to witness our next premiershipπŸ™ƒ On the other hand may it is best to stay away...πŸ˜‰πŸ€”
  4. They haven't added anyone to cover Dunkley's class or Hunters footy IQ. So you are correct they will spread the workload but overall will be lesser for the losses.
  5. In one of the training threads around mid Feb it was mentioned that someone stood on his foot. Don't think he missed any training sessions before then. So from a fitness and training point of view he should be right to go when his foot is healed.
  6. Not so sure about their midfield these days. They lost Dunkley and Hunter but no one of note has replaced them. They have Smith, a perennially injured Treloar, Bontempelli, McCrae and Liberatore to cover the midfield and the wings. And English as their ruckman now without their 'back up', Dunkley. I don't see that group being anywhere near as damaging as they have in the past and certainly not against our elite mid/wing/ruck brigade. Even adding Williams and McClean who give them some depth, put quite simply their midfield is no longer elite, imv.
  7. Talking of the MRP (and not really for this thread) but will DeGoey's sling tackle be looked at? Can't remember the Hawks player but his head bounced off the ground. Edit: jordan-de-goey-tackle-on-lloyd-meek-match-review-
  8. At least one of them was from a mark. He may get the distance but when the ball falls short or is a point it is low value. From a team view he should find a better placed target or to the top of the goal square. I honestly doubt Chandler can kick a goal from 45-50m out very often even with no wind. As I say; a low percentage shot. It didn't hurt us yesterday but might in a tight game.
  9. Chandler worked really hard but I wondered whether he feels he has to start kicking goals so took low percentage shots (two I think) from the 45-50m range. Not sure he should have licence to kick for goal from that range especially when there is a breeze. The ball floats off line or tapers off at the end. At least one of the two was a point. If he doesn't have the distance he should aim for the top of the goal square. He could learn from Spargo who always looks for a closer target when he is that far out. Spargo knows his limitations and plays to his strengths.
  10. Extracting one sentence from a post might suit your comments but removes its context. To recap the context: The point I was making was that the 5-7 injured players could not be replaced. Given that we had to play those injured players I posed the question would we have been better by playing Bowey/JVR in lieu of Hunt/Melksham/Rivers. I also posed the question would we not have benefited from playing our sub, Joel Smith when the injured players were spent and the momentum was turning. So if you are going to quote me please quote the whole post or at least the part that gives context. Re the bold part of your post above. I made no mention of Baker or Dunstan. For JVR refer back to the opening post which states he was ready to play for Max. That doesn't sound like he was underdone. So for me to suggest JVR might have served us better than Melksham is not so far fetched. As it was Melksham played only 69% of the game. Reasonable to think that JVR could have played 3 quarters.
  11. Anyone else notice Petracca was slightly limping when he walked off at half time - favouring his left leg😟
  12. Pretty sure all clubs try to keep injuries under wrap especially those that can be easily targetted in future games. Lots of porkies are told by clubs but realistically there are no secrets in AFL. News gets out one way or another if not to the media certainly to other clubs. Everyone knows about Fritta's foot injury - it was mentioned in training reports and I'm sure lazy media read them. Good players get physically targetted even if not injured.
  13. Agreed. We had a very good chance to win the semi but doubt we would have won a prelim given our injury list. Nonetheless, a win in the semi would have saved a straight set exit and stopped the run of third/fourth quarter fade outs.
  14. From various reports the 5-6 probably were: Fritsch (knee), Max (back), Petracca (broken leg), Oliver (thumb/hand), Langdon (ribs), Brown (knee). Maybe Lever? All very difficult to replace with someone from Casey. To go into a final with 3-4 injuries is risky. Imv with 5-7 is downright foolhardy and inviting trouble. Perhaps we compounded the injuries by also selecting players that weren't necessarily best 22. Would Bowey/JVR have been a better choice than Melksham/Hunt/Rivers (and change some positions). Would we have not got value bringing on our sub: Joel Smith (whose selection had to be cover for one of the injured). Momentum swung early in the last when the injured were spent; no Joel! No idea why we almost never use our sub!! Oh, and btw, it would have been helpful if Jackson had played a half decent game to help Max. A very poor effort by him in a vital game for his team. Not whitewashing the result but imv we beat ourselves in that semi mainly from poor player management decisions before and during the game. Sorry to bring up some 'old chestnuts' but hopefully it doesn't encourage 'whipping boy' posts. πŸ₯Ί
  15. I think they targetted Maddie when they first came into the comp and she knocked them back. Not sure they tried again as part of this priority psp recruiting.
  16. get-stuck-into-melbourne-premiers-dodge-player-raids-so-far A bit of tongue-in-cheek from Collingwood's Ruby Schleicher: "It would be nice if people went through Melbourne a little bit," Schleicher said with a smile. "They're sticking pretty bloody fat. "All of the list managers out there, if you could start getting stuck into Melbourne I'd really appreciate it because they’re very solid." That suggests players have been approached but not enticed. From the article: "Keeping their squad together is rather on brand for the Demons, who rarely lose players to rival clubs. Even when Shelley Scott left for Geelong, she did so mainly to be closer to home". That there are no rumours about us losing a player bodes well. Still 5 days to go so anything can happen. Feeling quietly optimistic that our top 6-10 players will remain. πŸ€žπŸ™
  17. Cornes is clearly going to bat for Port and Richardson was implying whether Corns was now Port's list manager. A cheeky dig on Richardson's part.
  18. I thought the AFL season was Oct 1 to September 30. All player and FD contracts are to EOS ie Sept 30 and that is when the membership roll-overs and renewals can start. That would make our memberships for the season technically ending Sept 30. A MCC member might confirm that is the date their membership rolls over...? It could have changed but that was my understanding. Not sure what the merchandising situation is between one season ending (Sept) and receiving the next year's membership card (Jan). My guess is most stores/sites accept the season just ended membership.
  19. Relax 'layzie.πŸ™ƒ No amount of 'brainbusting' will give the answer until he signs or after we play our last game. Either is many many months away.

Watch this space on AFL website: https://www.afl.com.au/fixture?Competition=1&CompSeason=52&MatchTimezone=MY_TIME&Regions=2&ShowBettingOdds=1&GameWeeks=1&Teams=17&Venues=3#byclub Our Eagles game seems to be the only ones for which tickets aren't currently available. (Checked Freo games and they are also unavailable right now). I'm guessing ticket sales will open 2-3 weeks before the game.

Just guessing, it may be a stadium/ticketmaster/club decision so unique to Optus...

Just had a go. It looks like at this stage it is just for Eagles members 😟. I'm guessing mfc members will be part of the general public ticket sales which may not open for a few weeks.
  24. I also thought it was 3 years but checked today.
