COACHES VOTES: Rd 01 2023
Do you think he should get more or less?

COACHES VOTES: Rd 01 2023
De Goey got 10 votes. Even without stella performances each week he could end up on top as there aren't other players of note to consistently take votes from him. Conversely Oliver, Petracca and Gawn take votes off each other. The same goes for the Brownlow. Would feel 🤢 if De Goey won the Brownlow.

COACHES VOTES: Rd 01 2023
That looks like: 9 = 4 and 5 for both Pickett and Lever 5 = 2 and 3 for both Petracca and Gawn 2 = 1 and 1 for Oliver. So very similar assessment by both coaches.

Farewell Luke Jackson
Some harsh comments from freo fans. The other forwards Treacy and Taberner did no better. Freo had 65 inside 50 for a mere 17 scoring shots. The ball seemed to ping pong between the 50m arcs. So not entirely Jackson's fault. But I guess with his money and the fanfare around him fans aren't going to look for reasonable explanations. However, Jackson played 85% game time. At the dees he usually played about 70% +/-; a 20% increase. My guess is he isn't fit enough/have the endurance to get through a game. And one wonders where his head is at. He tuned out last year when he knew he was leaving. Maybe the same is happening now that he has his long term mega million contract.

POSTGAME: Rd 01 vs Western Bulldogs
I noticed Chandler do this a lot. Also when he marked he didn't seem to look for options instead going back to take his kick. It didn't hurt us on Saturday night but it might in other games and it can slow or kill our momentum not to mention give the opps time to get their defenders back or set up.

Kysaiah Pickett on report
That may be so but the way the MRO has classified the two incidents doesn't make sense. Simples!

The Buddy and Kozzi decions are unreal. Both Carless, Both HIgh contact. Buddy medium Impact and Kozzie HIgh impact yet it was Buddy's player that went off concussed while Kpzzi's opponent bounced up and played out the game. How on earth could Kozzie's bump be high impact while Buddy's be medium impact? Arrrgghhh! No sense in that!!!!! Kozzie take the two weeks and learn from it.

Quoting the Cripps case is etiher posters being disingenuous or they don't understand what happened. The MRO referred it directly to the Tribunal which gave him a two week ban. High end lawyers went to court and argued some abnormality in the Tribunal process. Cripps got off on a legal technicality. The AFL has closed that loophole. It is not relevant to Pickett's case. Buddy cleaning up a player yesterday is relevant. They will argue it was in play but he veers away from the ball to lay the bump.

Under the new rules he will get two weeks. And Buddy should also get two. Players were warned a few months ago: "Under the amendments ...the League has ruled that the potential to cause serious injury must be factored into the determination of impact in cases where there is head-high contact...Under the new guidelines, high bumps will usually draw an impact grading of at least medium, "even though the extent of the actual physical impact may be low". harsher-penalties-for-high-hits-crackdown-on-umpire-contact If Kozzie is deemed to have hit Smith's head under the old rules he should get a week: Deliberate, high contact, low impact. Under the new rules he will get two weeks. If not 'high' it is a fine. Buddy's hit: Careless (but I thought it was deliberate), high contact, high impact. I don't have a problem with the new rules but they must be applied consistently. Every head high contact has the 'potential to cause damage' so they should all result in a ban.

NON-MFC: Rd 01 2023
Some observations: The rucks had no influence on this game. Cats relied on Stanley and Pies on Cameron. Geelong's all ground defence was poor. They missed Stewart and his leadership. They missed Selwood and his leadership Stengle and De koning looked injured who knows how much Collingwood's domination after Howe went off was driven by emotion. I wonder if Pies will come to rue the day they let Grundy go. Last night wasn't exactly a ringing endorsement of that decision. It was a mighty win by the Pies but not sure the Cats were that bad. imv Collinwood will be tested by a team with better ruckmen and better all team defence. A team like the Mighty Demons! Bring on KB Monday!!

PREGAME: Rd 01 vs Western Bulldogs
Bulldogs have named their 4 head monster in the starting 22. But their bench looks very pedestrian: J.Johannisen 39 J.Bruce 17 O.Baker 13 M.Hannan 29 Their sub from listed emergencies: B.Khamis 24 H.Crozier 9 T.McLean 16 J.Sweet 41 unless Beveridge does one of his last minute switcheroos!

NON-MFC: Rd 01 2023
Due to forward lien injuries Saints will go all out defence. Freo won many games last year because of their stingy defence rather than high scoring. This will be a battle of attrition of the defences! Saints could cause an upset

He would have won last year if Selwood hadn't kicked his hand with some force.
