Finals Week 1
Because he isn't as tall and because he doesn't have the help: Our ruckman rests in defence. And we don't have another effective tall fwd. Also the bulldogs defence was very poor yesterday. Steven May took King to the cleaners so it shows what a decent defender can do. Max will be a champion. Sam perhaps not but he will still be a very good player if developed properly.

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - BEN BROWN
Re the bolded parts. My comments were based on a fit TMac and he gives us those. As I said, TMac gives us more list flexibilty going forward than being locked into a 3+ year contract with Brown. We can't afford both. If we can't trade TMac (and it seems there are no takers) then we can't have Brown.

Yze is a Demon Again
Who selected his current coaching panel? And who decided to let his experienced coaching support go last year and hire Richardson, if he didn't? Based on the last 4 years, I have little confidence in his judgement of what makes a successful coaching panel.

Finals Week 1
Melbourne has the better top 8 players. Saints list has better positional balance and overall skills. So Saint's list is better placed for success.

Farewell Oscar McDonald
Yep, Astbury was given a clear role in a strong system and is an asset. Oscar could well be the same. Deserves another go, elsewhere.

Farewell Oscar McDonald
I didn't say our defence was a shambles! Doubt your claim that our defence set up this year was excellent. Really? And even if it was, Oscar wasn't given many chances this year. Can't see how that is making excuses for Oscar.

Farewell Oscar McDonald
That is an outcome. The role is the part in the team process to achieve that outcome. There are many such processes varying with game plan, structures, set-ups, ball movement etc. Since 2018 the defensive players have changed, the zone has changed, our defence structures and processes have changed, ball movement has changed and he has been in and out of the team. I don't describe those as circumstances which foster 'a strong system, belief in the game plan and belief in the team' to enable a player to be the best he can be in his role.. He is known to read the play well and that is a real asset in defence. I would like to see him go to a club that can better use his skills.

Josh Daicos
The big question is why no club selected him before pick #57 which allowed him to go to Coll as F/S for peanuts! Massive free kick to the pies!

Finals Week 1
Carins was bad for us in challenging scheduling circumstances. But what really cost us were two games we let slip earlier in the season that would have got us into finals: Geelong where we experimented with one tall fwd being a sluggish TMac. It didn't work. We lost by a few points. Bulldogs. We played them off long breaks (7 days and before that 6 days) after 3 good wins and we were terrible. We gave them our spot in the finals that day. Win either of those and we would have been 7th playing the saints yesterday who we could have beaten. And play the pies next week, another winnable game to make a prelim vs Brisbane. But for the ifs and buts we were 9th. Oh, what might have been...

TRADES, DELIST, PROMOTE
Bradtke is a 'B' rookie so that could be why he was left out but not sure. Good pick up on Smith. Thanks, I will go back and edit.

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - BEN BROWN
We know the problem - what is the solution?

TRADES, DELIST, PROMOTE
Status of our OOC players: re-sign-or-let-go-your-club-s-out-of-contract-players (I've edited out recent changes announced) Out of Contract: Toby Bedford, Mitch Brown, Kade Chandler, Mitch Hannan, Michael Hibberd, Marty Hore, Jayden Hunt, Nathan Jones, James Jordon, Jay Lockhart, Oscar McDonald, Aaron Nietschke, Charlie Spargo, Jack Viney. Summary: Viney still unsigned. Jones future unclear. Hibberd will want multiple years. Bedford will stay but rival clubs interested. Oscar is waiting for an offer. Nietschke has been guaranteed a deal for 2021 I had thought a year by year contract would be the way to go with Hibberd. Would really like to see Lockhart signed up. He had a pretty good year until Rivers took his spot. Would still be very good back up in that small defender role especially with Jetta slowing down.

Sam Frost 7th in Hawks B&F
Tell that to all our BnF winners and place getters when we sitting at or near the bottom of the ladder for most of this century. Sam was voted one of Hawks' three 'Most Valuable Players' by team mates. That is a pretty good accolade. He must be doing a lot right.

Farewell Oscar McDonald
I reckon Oscar would do really well at a club like the Swans where there is a strong system, belief in the game plan and belief in the team. Give him a clear role and he will do it very well; no star but can be an excellent soldier.

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - BEN BROWN
If our tall fwd option is between Brown and TMac I prefer Tom. They are the same age and by reports are earning/looking for similar $ packages. Brown is accurate for goal but is one dimensional ie runs straight to mark the ball overhead. He doesn't have positional flexibility and is poor defensively. Tom is a better option on each of those 3 features and therefore fits our (confusing) game plan better. We know that Tom has overcome his injuries but don't know if Brown has. We are relying on rumours and reports about Tom's weight gain, and being out of favour with Goodwin. If they can be overcome, I believe Tom can be best 22 again. 2018 shows what he can do with a game plan that uses his strengths. 2019 he played injured in with an erratic game plan. 2020 he was overweight and out of favour. At 28 he still has it in him. Throw in a decent fwd coach and clearly define his role and who knows what might happen. And at the end of 2021 with regular senior games and with only one year left on his sizeable contract he will be a more tradeable. Jackson will be a year further developed and better placed to replace TMac. Brown gives us less list management flexibility. I think we need another tall fwd to help Weideman while Jackson develops. Much prefer it be Tom and keep him for at least one more year.

Yze is a Demon Again
I believe so. And, if they "promote" Richardson to Mahoney's job "The Peter Principle" phenomenon will again kick in.
-
Yze is a Demon Again
That phenomenon has a name: "The Peter Principle"

Yze is a Demon Again
No problem with Voss or Leppa just not all 3 of them which is what AF was dreaming.
-
Yze is a Demon Again
Dream on, Adam. For me it is more of a nightmare: 3 failed first time coaches (Leppitsch, Richardson and Voss) working for a struggling, under pressure first time coach. No thanks!
-
Yze is a Demon Again
Really? (Bolded part) Can't see in his cv what credentials/experience he has for the GM role. I hope it isn't a case of: 'the GM position is vacant, Richo is surplus so lets put him in the job'! I've seen it happen many times in organisations, it never ends well.

Finals Week 1
Hardwick was whinging again! Said tigers were undisciplined in giving up 5 goals from frees and 50m penalties while saying the umps were 'trigger happy' and they should let the players play. His team showed complacency and arrogance before the bounce and played that way. Got what they deserved. Hardwick is up there with Scott on my disliked coach list!

Finals Week 1
Hardwick may have let slip a way to beat Richmond. He said Brisb made 'long spoils which took their small players out of play'. A simple tactic so when the ball goes to ground the Richmond players are out of position to crumb. For sure, Hardwick will change his strucures to counteract in future. Nonetheless, thought it showed good planning by Fagan and co. Hardwick also said 'their system beat our system'. It is a major achievement to beat the best system in the AFL Shows the value of an easy to follow game plan that is second nature to the players. Wish ours was like that.

Dees Reviewing Senior Footy Department Positions
Still didn't work. If you send me a message I can respond.

Dees Reviewing Senior Footy Department Positions
How did you get that from the article?

Dees Reviewing Senior Footy Department Positions
Tehnically Mahoney doesn't fall in one of those departments as he is the boss of coaching and fitness (and other departments) Will be bitterly disappointed if Mahoney's position isn't reviewed.
