Thats the whole problem with the discussion on Weid. We're not playing him looking for potential on Sunday he's got a mans job to fill and we need him to fill it. I dont care what he's going to be like in one or two years time we need what he's got NOW....and is he big enough to bring it like there's no tomorrow. . I think I have too many memories of Morton, Gysberts, Cook and Watts and waiting for the day they fill out and step up. We all know now, with the exception of a game here or there, they never really did. None seemed to have the mongrel required at this level. Weid reminds me of them. I SO want to be wrong about the weid...and will happily eat crow if I am. But I will judge him on what he brings on Sunday not who he might become.

I tend to agree. It’s been stated already but if we don’t counter McGovern we’re going to get done. The big marking babkmen are killing us as opp sides drop numbers bk to counter our clearance rates. They then attack us from half back. All potential aside...Is weird the right guy to bring in FOR THIS GAME is my question.

Changes v West Coat - Round 22
really interesting stats. I just wonder though if Hogan doesnt assist Tom in those figures by drawing a key defender away. As much as Jesse does seem to have become a bit of a down hill skier this year. I cant remember it being like this in previous years. Looking at him move makes me wonder if he's just too injured to excel at the top of the top level. I dont mean his foot I mean his back etc etc. Anyone that watches him run would be wondering just how long a career someone with his body can last in the game.

MFC and foot injuries
really disturbing. Is there ANY other club having the same type of foot issues? It does seems like its particular to us and, if so, must in some way to the way we prepare/ train...or the surface itself. Unless its just horrible luck. I hope they're investigating, because if Oliver, Gawn, or Brayshaw go down with something similar there could be riot ...and I'll be at the front of it.

Changes v West Coat - Round 22
Beat me to it Beelzebub. I also think having picked Pedo last week we should let him a crack at it. Whenever I see Weid play I cant get past the feeling that he doesnt seem ready. No physical precense......yet. I dont think we can take him into a game like we're gonna have on sunday. Weid needs a real run at it and I just dont think these two rounds and possibly more are the time.

Round 21 Non MFC Games
Tyson and frost have stepped up... fr Viney and lever. which at least mitigates the losses a little. More trust in frost from the outset and we beat the saints and cats. But Hibberd and now Smith is leaving a hole and Melksham is big loss. Gawn... I can’t even think about that.

Match Preview and Team Selection - Round 21
Maybe its because the weather is getting warmer , or maybe Im just getting lost in the hype, but this game feels just like a final. Way more so than the game vs the pies in round 23 last year...even though that was too. Im never one to be too optimistic pre game but I reckon we might just play out of our skins and smash them on Sunday. This will both keep us in the top 4 and demonstrate to the team how far we can go this year. Setting us up for a massive 6 weeks or so. Dees by 40+

One day in not so distant future we are going to be going through something like this ourselves. When a Brayshaw or Oliver or Hogan or someone of that ilk wants to go $ chasing or move back home. Id love it not to be so but its the way of the current game. I think come that time, we're all going to be hoping the players put at least a BIT of pressure for who ever it may be to stay. But in agreement with what you written...putting too much on can be the worse possible thing.

Changes vs Sydney
is that an, off the top of the head statement... or something youve heard?

vanders: The Return
Love vanders and what he can offer the team, but not convinced about him fr this year. He looked slow to me... think he would b found out against better opposition. Get him right fr next year but I think Kent is a better option this year.

Goodwin Presser (2/8)
He's from Carlton .... so maybe. Impossible if it were a demon.

Tom McDonald?
Mods...Can we at least change the name of this thread?

Losing Jack Viney
In one way I agree. I just dont think Jones has the talent of a selwood or a dangerfield so in my opinion he shouldnt be compared to them. Its a different sort of inspiration he brings. He stood tall pyschologically when the club was falling backwards . He held a light up to the young players showing by example how to prepare your body and all the extras needed to get the most out of yourself. I dont know as Im not around the club but I imagine that when Jones talks standards players listen. THAT type of leadership is what has improved this club and in part what will help drive the Brayshaws, olivers and Petraccas etc to be elite ...let them "drag the team over the line" now Jones may not dominate games like he did, or like Selwood or Danger have, " drag the team over the line" with individual brilliance. But, as a player that has got the absolute maximum out of himself, became a a battering ram to protect the younger bodies coming through, and driven others around him to reach their potentials , then he IS elite. I, for one, feel is one of the best leaders we've ever had.

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - STEVEN MAY
Boom...nailed it.

Changes v Gold Coast Suns
I live interstate and haven’t seen baker live yet. But watching on tv he just doesn’t look ready to me. If we were bottom 4 and blooding young players as we would “normally” be in August , then sure give him a run. But given the tightness of the company, every goal we get and give away against Gold Coast could yet b vital. Leave him be fr 2018, Get another pre season into him.

Casey Demons v Northern Blues - Round 18
Will b great to see Hunt back in action... I still think he’s part of the dees strongest line up.
-
Changes v Gold Coast Suns
Clearly not right is he. Didnt look like himself at all. He draws an extra defender which is why they left hm on the ground I think but, like many here, I think we need to rest him. We need a fit JH in the last couple of games. We also have Smith and Weid and Pedo that can all play his role better than he played it ( in the state he was in) last night.

Brayshaw Re-Signs Until 2022
Great news. He's Arriving into his real potential now and forming part of what must be one of the most talented young midfield groups in the comp.

Andrew Gaff
Saturdays game convinced me we need Gaff..

Maxed out
of the 10,000 things that are troubling me about the dees atm Max's form def isnt on the list. Agree though, it wasnt his best night and to top it all off he was cruelled at the end with the blood rule. tragic.

Name three good things
I agree its sad as JKH, imo, is exactly caught in the middle in terms of abilty between AFL and VFL. Not his fault. Lacks pace and intensity and just isnt up to the grade. Pace of the game leaves him for dead. We cant pick him again.
-
Name three good things
1. Oliver. Continues to blow me away and he's played just 50 games. 2. Harmes' continued development as a tagger. Did a massive job last night. 3. Others may disagree..but I thought Frost was fantastic when he went onto Hawkins. 4. ( i know its only supposed to be three...but I need to add that into back that team, that SHOULD have smashed Geelong, comes HIbberd, Viney and next year Lever and , cross fingers, Gaff. We're getting v close to being elite)

POSTMATCH DISCUSSION - Round 18
Somewhat recovered today. An analogy came to me today. Feel like I somehow landed a date with Scarlett Johansen and somehow managed to impress her enough to get into her into the bedroom...but then was tragically unable to get it up. Failed at the final hurdle. Deep down I feel proud of the boys...Geelong at Geelong in a match of the round and realistically bar their stupid accuracy its a game we should have won. I think thats now 3 times in a row I feel like they were lucky to win. But we are just soooo close to being the genuine article.
