Between the Flags - a great new book on the MFC
Wells 11 replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
Great interview. “ in 2023.. we had to rebuild the fwd line 3 times” Hadn't thought of it quite like that. -
Yeah I remember the excitement of that summer with both of them coming. Another false dawn. I’m so glad we won a flag to put memories like this to bed!

Happy to be wrong Deelectable.

I remember that day. Another part in one of the darkest eras in the clubs history.
-
I’ve only ever heard Moore regret his decision to leave the Pies and have never heard him say anything positive about the dees.

verral looks closer for mine.

i looked around at the team last night , in what was a horrible loss for us, and understood a little why. A. We had 4 New players. Howes, Windsor, Kolt, Woey … all still finding their way against a hardened, focused top 4 team ( Even though Windsor gave us speed and looks great he’s still finding his feet). You could say we’re strong enough to cover for that and we normally might be. But… B. We also have 3 important players playing off very limited pre seasons in a very condensed series of games Oliver, Petty, Brown and three looked spent. Then add in that a two went in carrying some big injuries in May and Oliver and possibly Trac? and we lost Salem early and kozzie before the game. In short we looked like half of ourselves and just didn’t have much to give . Im still not sure how we didn’t get utterly buried. Lots of excuses I know ….but they just didnt look like themselves at all so I’m wondering why. The hope I’m holding is that we really need the break and in the back end of the year ( with more fitness into oliver and Petty and more game time into the young ones) we’re going to be looking a lot stronger than we do now.
-
usually rumours like this don’t come from nowhere. The benefit might be that it’s really then a 3 week break for him to the tigers game.

We should all expect super fast action now then....things have gotten serious!

We've been so ultimately spoiled in very recent times haven't we? Bowey debuts and stars from the get go in 21. McVee, Windsor, Roo, Howes, Woey hasn't starred yet but looks pretty good. In the dark past, when hope was largely absent I must admit had little excitement about a new comer. Very different these days. Cant wait to see how he looks on the big stage!

which still makes him a very very good player ;-)

Interesting to think we may have both Mc Adam and Melksham at the back end of the year. Looking forward to seeing both of them and how we use them.

kozzie was in the air and was “just like a frisbee with arms “ , “ zero time to adjust” … i always felt like saying how the hell do opening batsmen play any shots.geez that [censored] still burns in me. not a good look fr kozzie as he was in the air but it was to stop the handball. unlucky.

A solid tough win away. A lot of improvement can happen so to be 4-1 is awesome.
-
that’s why they’ll get it. The AFL protect the strongest. Except when it was Melbourne in the 60’s.

expect May to test Walkers back if he tries.

acute bronchitis, long covid and dengue fever....he'll be fine.

where did he say this?

I’m glad you said all of this as that is how this win is being spun by most media I have listened to. ie they lost a game they should have won. ( Im not sure what u meant by their “ lucky after siren goal” though. U mean the one they kicked after the siren in the 1st? ) While I hate to discuss that team with blk and white stripes on this forum I consider how “ lucky” I thought they were in both 2022 and 2023. And in doing so how much I, and many, under rated them. In the end Im happy if the media keeps under rating us too!

Still makes me sad to think about how “almost” he was / is. starred in our first final in over a decade vs Geelong in 2018. kicked 3 and tackled everything. As great as JT is the Weid call over mckay and curnow still burns.
