Have we been worked out?
Our system holds up very, very well if the players have the fitness base to execute on it. Interesting to note that if they blew the siren at 3/4 time over the last 8 rounds we’d have lost 2 games for the entire season. Not to turn every topic into a discussion about training loads - but in my opinion it proves we haven’t been ‘worked out’, we are being ‘out worked’ late in games.

NON-MFC: Round 19, 2022
If they get a tough draw in 2023 with this list they won’t make the 8. All we need is Malthouse to pick them for the flag to seal the deal.

Our biggest issue is...
Sorry, but should we have changed everything after we annihilated the other teams across 3 finals last year, or after we won the first 10 games this year? Judge us by the season, not the quarter. Long way to go yet. The only thing 2022 has taught me so far is that a lot of Melbourne supporters went from the certainty that we were perennial losers, to somehow thinking we’d never lose again. Strange days.

NON-MFC: Round 19, 2022
They have used all their luck up and then some. Their last 4 they’ve beaten 12th, 14th, 16th and 18th by an average of 5 points. I mean. What a joke.

Redman subbed off. I wish the media would pick up on this stuff.

POSTGAME : Rd 19 vs Western Bulldogs
Make no mistake. They absolutely hate us. They beat us in the corresponding game this round last year and felt they had the wood over us. Then 3 goals up mid way through the 3rd quarter in a grand final and they could taste it. Followed by the most brutal 30 minutes of football anyone has ever seen to destroy them. Yeah, they can’t stand us. And I love it.

What was that even about? What rule was that? Not being facetious - genuinely interested.

NON-MFC: Round 19, 2022
GWS are in serious danger of long term irrelevance. If they lose another tier of younger players again this year I think HQ will be furious. 5 years ago it seemed inevitable, and now it seems impossible.

Shall we test out your theory? 😉

Round 19 2021. Melbourne 9.11.65 Bulldogs 13.7.85 Dare I say we are in literally exactly the same phase as we were this time last year - but just had a harder draw and a bit less cohesion.

It’s all good. I was annoyed last night. The boys really left it all out there in that game. I really don’t think the Dogs could have played any better, and they only just got us. 👍

Down hill skiers? Soft? Watch that game again. We tried our heart out, but got undone in the last because we ran out of legs. We have such a tough draw this year. Constantly a day less prep, and often a lot more travel. To say we are a ‘poor reigning premier’ is laughable. It’s not a matching set. You’ve got to show up and go again - and the second time you have a harder draw and are literally the competition benchmark. Our boys are trying their guts outs. They aren’t soft.

So 5 losses for the year - Freo, Sydney, Collingwood, Geelong and The Dogs. If I’m remembering correctly I think we’ve lead by 20 points or more in all those games except Geelong? We’ve been massively out scored after half time in the last 8 rounds. It’s not a coincidence, in fact it’s eerily similar. I’m feeling pretty confident about where we sit. I think our boys know what won them the flag last year. As Goodwin told the players in the Grand Final ‘Trust in your fitness’.

This.Take a good look at the other teams, and you realise we are in this year up to our necks. A very, very strong argument could be made that had both Port and Melbourne been afforded the same 7 day break as their opponents we’d be on top of the ladder again tonight. It’s a super tight season.

Almond or regular? I’d prefer Almond if you can stick one aside.

6 Day Break - and another one next week. If we are loading and trying to mimic last years performance the footy gods aren’t smiling on us like last year.

Demonland logic = We play well - the opposition are terrible. The opposition play well - we are terrible.

Our draw is harder. Considerably. Our game plan is the benchmark, so sides have done a LOT of work on us. I saw Justin Longmuir at the ground tonight. The players are trying their guts out, and giving their all. We had a month less fitness at the end of last year than 2021, and we’ve had a lack of cohesion with injuries - which we didn’t have last year. Honestly I think a lot is working against us. This is the time to double down and support us more. The footy gods are angry at us, but if we can get right and come good when it matters it will be the most incredible victory. Get around us. The boys deserve that.

We don’t have a second key forward ready to go. Weid was only in because Brown was out. JVR needs more time. To be fair to Weid he worked insanely hard tonight. He ran from wing to wing at top speed about 30 times. That’s part of the reason JVR isn’t being picked. He obviously doesn’t have the fitness just yet.

Evidently around here you only get evaluated by the last 5 minutes of football you’ve played.
