  1. Its the vibe.
  2. Not helped by the awful structures that meant Hawthorn had an extra player in defence all quarter. This was rectified a little bit but for the rest of the game but our predictable attacks meant that our target was always outmanned/ It was a bit perplexing
  3. If you could be guaranteed that the players would turn up to provide a hard fought contest fairly overseen by umpires not influenced by the baying majority of supporters you might attend. The humiliation of last weeks effort and the condescending smugness of the Hawthorn supporters was bad enough but navigating a Collingwood dominated supporter crowd is just not worth it.
  4. If Houston did jndeed make that comment. I would suggest that any response from Rankine using the word [censored] would relate to being bound and stacked on the stretcher. Ie Youll need the stretcheragain, Response Hope not i felt i was trussed up and treated like a [censored] of wood last time. This comment was caught by his teamates but the Collingwood players were fixated on only a brief exchange and could not comprehend the total sentance.
  5. Review by the MRO cites Pickett for reckless gathering of the ball, bans him for 12 weeks to attend spatial recognition and time space management training . MRO says Pickett should have anticipated that Collingwood players would of course perform heroic negating tactics and not attended the contest. His outthrust boot was reckless in its intent and the goal should not be allowed. Delayed Goal review processes allow the goal to be annulled and the victory be granted to the PIes.
  6. So perfectly aligned to the highest qualities of our club
  7. Maynard goes to smother kick off Kozzies boot as Moore slides in and takes Kozzies legs out. AS he falls Kozzies boot connects with the ball which scores the winning goal. Maynards smother breaks Moores cheekbone while Moores slide fractures MAynards leg. While the stretchers come out the winning goal is confirmed and the siren sounds. Collingwood supporters accept the football acts and celebrate their heroes
  8. My question is how was the offending comment picked up. There isnt much difference between an expression [censored] and blurting out fuggit . The first term is certainly reprehensible and totally offensive the latter is now a common expression. Was the report the result of overhearing by Collingwood players or an enhanced audio pick up? I have expressed many times it is context and intent that are important, when growing up (while a child) the terms bastard and bugger were considered the highest insult. We were punished for using those words more severely than any other expletive. We have now seen Bugger ia an advertising slogan and the term bastard can be a term of endearment. It was only as I matured and discovered we had one of both in our family that the sensitivity to the terms became more relevant
  9. Thanks Jaded for articulating some of my thoughts so well.
  10. you are right but I would think that that is part of the coaches job and responsibility to make sure they get the best out of themselves . I agree its not the fault of one person but the coach also has the responsibility to communicate with others to get the resources to meet that requirement. Thatb is what the board is considering now I guess. For the sake of all I would hope that is communicated quickly.
  11. The coach has and bears the responsibility. It is the coach who developes and teaches structures and reactions. It is the coach who selects and inspires players. It is the coach who sets and monitors performance. It is the coach who must understand and communicate with players intimately and who must deliver rewards and penalties. It is the coach who must recognise individual performance and construct it into the performance of the whole. It isnt an easy job but if Goody gets the plaudits for 21 and he should , he must also be recognised for the faults peaking this season. He needs to publicly communicate this and take the heat of his players and provide a coherent response. I admit I have trouble myself but with time to focus soley on his job the coach should be able to construct an appropriate communication to fans and the public. I believe it can only be a resignation, but if he can make a statement in the presence of all the players and have them endorse his remarks particularly with outstanding performances for the rest of the season, I am happy to consider.
  12. WOW pick a name, trade em out not only reduce salary pack to allow you to pick up an other uncertainty BUT Improve your opposition I have no real idea of whats going on but refuse to give these journalists looking to create headlines any space at all The club should come out and say We value and respect all our players, we have contracts we will honour. If a player comes to us like Jackson Hogan ANB we will respect them and force them to convince us why they want to leave. WE do not want to increase our opposition performance at the cost of our own. We have and will continue to invest in our players to return to our best. Continue discussion and if a player does not meet our needs we then discuss the best return for the club and the player.
  13. Hey DD thats a great strategy. Why not give away a few other players so we become completely irrelevant. Or Perhaps w could refresh both "great talents' to inspire and lead the rest of the squad to perform to their ability . Place them all in the best positions on the field and opposed to suitable opponents and manage their workloads and fitness to win matches and achive team success. This will also result in individual success.
  14. We will when Vineys body gets too battered and he retires. We can keep him longer by rotating with a similar tyoe. If you are saying we dont need a hard at the ball gatherer with inconsistent delivery.... That is another discussion.
  15. I see Tholstrup as playing the Viney role. He should train similar to Vines and rotate week about with him to provide a chop out when Viney needs a longer rehabilitation and introduce Tholstrup to the A game. If we are in transition we should be playing the next generation against St Kilda with a core of experience to guide them. Trac Clarrie Kozzie and Max are true big game specialists and I would be ensuring they are cherry ripe for the Pies game. WE should be managing all players so that the best squad from the list is on the ground that day. Wether that means playing them into form or resting them to peak thats what should be done.
  16. the best acronym ever is TLA its a three letter acronym for Three Letter Acronym.
  17. This is the ludicrous extension of this decision. I accept that elite athletes have greater mental and physical capacity than others (in relation to their sport functions) allowing them to make split second decisions, but they are still limited in the reactions to many variables and certainly cannot process multiple decision outcome options in that same split second. The fact that the tribunal took many hours to examine and make their decision indicates that. I also understand that training can alter practice and there may be some need to change manner that players "attack " the ball and therefore the player., but I believe there are many other examples of this that should be taken to the tribunal to argue that May should not be the example set to effect this change. The Brayshaw Maynard "attack" (football act) did not set such a severe precedent despite its tragic outcome which finished a players career. I believe that case affected the way many clubs especially Melbourne now train but making an example of May will not effect change and in fact because of its controversy amy be counter productive to change. The fact that past players, current players, coaches , commentators and a broad swathe of supporters are concerned and confused is enough to dismiss this charge. Such a decision should not diminish the need to undertake change but this should be done as arule change and appropriately officiated, through training, umpiring and tribunal action. The confusion is compounded by inconsistent reporting and penalty decisions. The May decision only reinforces this. The club should appeal and should be armed with video examples of the many split second decisions that are not reported, The May precedent will indeed alter the game, I dont believe that is the role of the tribunal.
  18. Reasonable and unreasonable the only mention made, what happened to football acts?. The football acts overlooked when Collingwood players cause impacts or injuries.
  19. Fixed
  20. Im tired of saying this. Shouting into the abyss. The club must raise the issue that appalling umpiring has on player decision making and action. Confidence and skill execution are obviously affected . It would be interesting to know how a gambling differential mentioned by Kayo commentators before the game affected the outcome. I am sure the players did all they could to win but when umpiring decisions clearly affect the score there must be questions raised. We need to get the umpires down to our club and ask what are we doing wrong. Why dont we get free kicks that affect the flow of the game . Why do we give away free kicks that affect the scoreboard. There are so many examples over the season where free kicks are given and our structures are exploited WHY I give in Ive accepted my depression . Sad I didnt take the cue from the Kayo team and back Carlton at $.50 when Melbourne were clearly the better team.
  21. Well I have consistently said that we had a good squad. After the 21 season we had a group that knew success and knew what it took to win. We made finals only to have our run shattered by a "football act" that was not recognised for its brutalism and impact individually or collectively. The club was magnificent in its treatment of Hogan, Jackson, and Nibbler, recognising individual emotions are as fragile for elite athletes as any other factor in performance. I believe the football act may have contributed to this recognition. We still built a good list and renewed our performances with some exciting youth to add to the experienced core group. Another football act took out Trac and impacted on individual and collective performance. But our playing list was still strong with a good blend of experience and youth with a magnificent leader who has continued to play at the highest level. Cameo performances by others however was not enough and we lost matches and perhaps sapped confidence. Reports of players wanting to leave seemed to be not handled well especially as these rumours were all found to be false as the players signed for long terms and professed loyalty etc. And still results did not come performance was below expectations. The club did state at the AGM that success was expected from a good squad who were committed to playing their best. Again the results did not come. I believe inconsistent umpiring affected confidence and frustration and by extension performance but the club seemed to do nothing about this. While it is unknown what the condition of individual players really is , I have been critical of the coach not managing the list well. No rest for underperformance and no apparent reward for performance in VFL.I thought we should have rotated the squad more to expose newer younger players to the demands of the AFL for a sustained plan based on opposition teams, not merely our own demands for development. Rigid adherence to a game plan that opponents had cracked, compounded by then changes to structures and patterns that were almost incomprehensible and reportedly not adopted fully and quickly did not win games. Poor goal conversion was obvios in many losing games. That we were more than competitive in key games served only to show that something was not working I could not identify what it was as I am not the coach The coach made the calls and reaps the results. That he now claims we are in transition is no doubt correct but it was a consequence of his own failures that we underperformed. It aint easy, every year only one team can win I still have great support for all our players on the list, some are aging and should be managed as Geelong has shown in the past, some younger bodies still need to be developed through exposure to what is required and rested if required, some need to learn to play through the low performance, older experienced players provide support. Not every player can play every game at maximum, No Brownlow medallist has been best on ground every match , ebbs and flows in performance must be managed. Again this is the coaches responsibility and it has not been evidenced this year. If we finish off with some development and use of the squad it may be correct to say we are in transition. I dont think we meant it and i dont think we needed it. I hope that we recognise what we need and then take action to achieve success.
  22. I dont expect any knowledge of tactics or strategies or even player condition etc to be indicated at a press conference. Nor do I even expect or anticipate the club to disclose minute detail of the operations and conditions affecting the players like contracts or personal impacts affecting them. I have followed the club most of my life and have experienced sorrow, frustration and confusion, along with probably every emotion including joy. I have been close to and remote from the club, I have had little influence but as part of the collective have had some influence and had direct feedback from individuals that my support was recognised as valuable. I have also been ignored and occasionally rebuked. I have always been happy to communicate to improve understanding. I have not always accepted Goodwins actions but acknowledge that he did achieve the premiership and will always thank him and the team for that. I did and do think he has failed to arrest the decline that has happened with what I have thought and said was a strong squad. He is ultimately responsible for the on field results and they have been poor. We are all aware of the many visible faults and are all unaware of all the actions taken but it seems there are still problems resulting im poor results. Something must be done and Goody has not remied the results. He will be unlikely to accept that it is fault and he may be correct but it is his responsibility and he must do something about it. I think it is time for him to go but I think he must be accorded the dignity and respect he deserves. Lets see how he handles the rets of the season and how the players and officials perform . Next season is some way away but certainly some foundations for performance then will be made now.. I will wait and continue to support the club.
  23. You forgot "The Tour" which begins Saturday.
  24. You wont get any argument from me. The confusion caused by the inconsistent application of the rules leads to frustration of players who create incidents. Kozzie was never tripped when he dropped the ball despite our plyers being penalised for a trip when a tackle slipped down to a trip. Different match and different interpretation. Our players are constantly called to play on and then deliver off balance or to poor set up, our opponents are given time to set up downfield. and a demon player better not move off the mark or a fifty metre penalty is paid. WE just cant seem to get it right We should get the umpires down to our training to assist us in what we are doing wrong.
