WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - JACK VINEY
rjay replied to einstein251's topic in Melbourne Demons
He started training with the group last pre season so I don't see any problem with him starting with them again this year. -

I've been pumping up Toumpas a bit but wouldn't be disappointed to pick up Wines if that's how the cards fell. -

Agree, with the strength of this draft in the top 20 I would't be handing anything over in that range. I would expect that players the calibre of Membrey, Graham, MacRae or Stringer could still be around at our pick 13 or 14. -
...and you can guarantee all of them will be thinking it won't be me"old dee", way of the world I guess. It's always someone else's problem.

Sheahans job is to pump up the kids, rarely if ever do you hear anything negative from him. He is the guy that tells us that so and so is like Judd, Goodes or Selwood, then the kid lands at the club and the supporters think they have the next Judd, Goodes or Selwood and get disappointed when he doesn't step up in his first year and maybe never steps up. Wines looks a good kid and there are a few in this draft, we will have Viney and a couple of his mates to build around Jones, Trengove ,Grimes and Blease to create the midfield we want. -

That one would be a Selwood, Judd, Heppel injury, the Adelaide clubs would love him and are throwing a bit of misinformation around would be my guess. -
Unfortunately it is a snow job, should have expected as much. Look forward to more rubbish coverage next year.

Lewis Martin the 7 boss is on with KB after 10 this morning and taking calls. Will be interesting to hear the spin he puts on their poor coverage of football. If he's smart he will listen to what the fans are saying and take action, let's hope so.

Because a jouno says it doesn't make it right. According to the club we made no offer.

I posted that night that Moloney, Green and Davey were gone. Looks like Aaron gets another chance, Greeny had one season to many and Moloney was always on the way out when Neeld came in.
-
Toumpas is a much better player than Caddy, if he is available at 3 or 4 we should take him.

I don't know "olisik", nobody knows how a career will turn out, it's only my opinion and you're right these are the questions the recruiters will be asking. They will know Viney better than anyone else so if they take him at 3 then they will have good reason to do so. I would love to get him 2nd round but if we have to take him at 3 I don't think we are paying overs, just blinded by the thought of getting him at 20 something... -

I haven't heard "olisik" but i think Viney is the best player and best known for us at 3 and think we will take him there if we have to. Pick 4 is going to be the interesting one, I hope it is Toumpas but wouldn't be surprised if he is taken in the top 2. -
We should be, but stuffed up badly.
-
...and some are talking of giving one to them for Hogan. They have the luxury of making a few mistakes we don't.

I'm sure the stones have been turned "Norm" and that's where the rumours have come from. It's just they haven't found anything under the stones turned yet. Let's see the wash up at the end of November. -
Perhaps we should have a good look at Collingwood's salary cap Eddie (the man in the glass house).
-
I don't think we're adopting anything like quick fix "Tony", we haven't signed any or these players. It's all rumour.

The 1.45 start time kills it for me, that and the unbalanced competition with many non event games. Dare I mention the rules, the maul to maul rugby style game. I also think the point made previously about the fan being treated poorly is coming back to bite the AFL on the bum. We can add cost to the list, in particular for poor quality food.

Sounds to me like they have a plan that they are sticking to and I'm happy with the approach they are taking. After arguing this point through the year re Cloke that we don't need to over spend on a messiah figure as we have done this in the past and come badly unstuck, the club seems in good hands. I'm looking forward to future announcements as to who is coming to the club. -
I don't think they will go a tall as they brought in Jenkins last year to cover for Tippett plus they also have McKernan. Toumpas is a top quality kid ready to go, not saying Grundy isn't but they already have Jacobs (still a young player and stiff to miss AA) doing the ruck work and being used as a forward pinch hitter in the ruck would not help his (Grundy's) development. Rucks need to ruck, the WC situation is different as Cox is coming to the end, it's a succession plan and both him and Niknat are handy up forward, Jacobs is not. I just don't think it's a given that they would go with Grundy, it looks right as a replacement and they may well go that way but Toumpas would be hard to pass up. To me he is at least on par with Whitfield and I hope he falls through to us, I've been on about us getting him since last year.

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - DAVID RODAN
rjay replied to Demon Head's topic in Melbourne Demons
Funny, I didn't see the word exactly used, but the similarities are that they are both one way players with no defensive side to their game who have little awareness of teammates around them and that's why I would find it hard to believe Neeld would be interested. Time will tell. -

Probably my least favourite player in the AFL, no defensive side to his game and just runs around and around getting nowhere a lot of the time. We've just moved Moloney on, no need for Rodan. As for the club making enquiries, well I guess they are doing their due diligence which is something we have complained about them not doing in the past. An enquiry doesn't mean real interest, I hope not in this case. -
They will take Toumpas.
