Chinese Whispers... ...and more Chinese whispers. He was talking about the fans being able to see the game plan, nothing about judging the team.
-
Probably the same output unfortunately. Professionalism or not.
-
From what I heard they were pretty keen to see him move on but no club took the bait.
-
Yeah, I know. I was looking forward to the footy for once this season and now it looks like I'm going to be hanging out for the under 18's carnival then the draft/trade week again.
-
Goddard and McCartin for me and trade another pick. Pick up one of the rucks in WA from Freo or WC.
-
Freeman's not playing, Sheed was dropped, Dunstan's going ok and Salem will be better than all of them. He has grunt.
-
No, I get your point and no I shouldn't have the job of recruiter it's just something I picked up watching him with no prior knowledge of how everyone else rated him apart from us getting him at pick 3. I think to often recruiting people go with a common wisdom and often the emperor has no clothes. Now I may not be right but at least it raised a question with me and his career to date may well prove me correct. The really good recruiters, and I reckon Rendall was one of these didn't take much notice about what anyone else said and went with his own observations. Apart from Danger and the Adelaide list (including Sloane who we turned down) he recently touted Grundy as being a beauty but no one touched him because they all believed a ruck man was no good until he was 25 yo or what ever the common view is now. Collingwood picked up a few good recruits with Rendall into recruiting and Grundy at pick 18. I've said it a number of times and not many want to listen because they've all been snowed by the talents he does have, strong body, long kick, good mark for size. He has absolutely no awareness and I think it may be a peripheral vision thing and this is why he will never be a consistent good player. He's Kosi in a smaller body, will play some good games, will also be collected unawares and will not know where his team mates and opponents are around him.
-
Then I reckon the guy who wrote this and the recruiters at our club that selected him only looked at the surface (stats) and didn't really watch him play, yes they saw what he did, went to the games but didn't really look past the obvious. The first time I watched him play at Sandy I reckon he a major deficiency in his game that a skilled recruiter would have picked up.

Kev's a bit different to Jimmy, body size for a start. He just needed a chance and we gave it to him, he was dominating in the VFA after being turned down by Carlton I think it was.

Doesn't look like going missing in his 2nd year. Back Toumpas but don't denigrate Wines it doesn't back up your points at all. Wines is and will continue to be a very good player.

plus a good ruck and we will be on the way.

Bombers scandal: charged, <redacted> and <infracted>

The idea was to build their base or foundation quicker, if they achieved that they got a head start on the rest so the benefits are ongoing. -

Derm and Moon's are the experts at this. -
Building and Maintaining a Competitive Playing List

Yep, I think we need to look at one of these guys. Freo have a few and WC have another not getting a game. Sinclair looks good, maybe time to open the cheque book a ruck, who can play mid and forward would be good. -
He has been disappointing, showed a bit early but seems totally lost now. The competition has passed him by. I still hold out faint hope but now he is not even holding his marks and that was a feature of his game and in part why the Bartel comparisons.

Building and Maintaining a Competitive Playing List
rjay replied to Machsy's topic in Melbourne Demons
It doesn't work that way, you can't build one without the other. No club have built a blue chip midfield to success, Carlton is a prime example...a lot are now thinking it was a mistake to give away Kennedy for Judd. Quality KPP's don't come around often, there are a few this draft and we would be mad to pass them up. -

So, we're going to have to build from the ground up. We don't have anything to offer at the moment to get these other players. -
Agree.

only as a bit player unless something changes radically...

Building and Maintaining a Competitive Playing List

Just don't agree with this at all 'Machsy', maybe with ruck stocks but KPP's they can either play or they can't. All the really good ones have come in and shown something from the get go. -

Derm and Moons can revise history as much as they like but it is plain wrong. So Derm according to this Hawthorn would have preferred Delidio and Tamblin to Roughy and Buddy. Let's look at the 2 most successful clubs of the last decade, Geelong and Hawthorn. Both clubs where built at the draft and in Geelong's case some good luck with father and sons. In the successful Geelong teams they only bought one high price player, Ottens. Hawthorn have cherry picked as of late. Both Geelong and Hawthorn have modified that strategy mainly because of the 2 new clubs diluting the draft, free agency and managing an already successful list without bottoming out. The rules changed and they're using them to advantage. With the coming draft there are a couple of gun KPP's and they are the type that will step straight in, like Hogan will when right to go. We need KPP's, we don't have any quality in this area at all. Good talls don't need extra time, of course they get better with age but the really good ones show it from the start. As for ruck's I agree we trade for them unless it's someone coming through like a NikNat. -
Probably, no definitely too slow and not strong enough to be a small defender.
-
According to many on here who are defending our players the same argument comes up. Trengove, Pedersen, Toumpas etc ran hard, made space..... I know it's part of the game but to many are out there making space and not enough are doing the hard work over the ball or tackling. ...but let's face it so many are not up to it and as far as AFL goes are a waste of space.
-
The only genuine on ballers we have are playing, Jones, Cross, Vince and Tyson. I wouldn't be making any of them the sub. ...by the way I'm sure you know and someone else will point out, so let me get in first. We have a few more problems than the sub.

It is real, if we can't make the draft work for us we're gone.
