  1. This is the big one Geelong do, they put a lot of pressure on the kicker and force a lot of their lefties to their right foot. This really messes with them.
  2. Great game down at Geelong tonight and for a change it was good to watch the 7 coverage. It seems they have had a moved to a more football oriented coverage, maybe they have finally been listening to the fans. When watching on TV you miss a lot of what is going on around the ground and why a player will take a particular option. This to me is a major reason for having special comments guys, to fill in the blanks. Whilst I think Darcy is a little too much Captain Obvious it was good to hear more detailed comments from Ling and also hear Richo talk without stupid interruptions & p..takes from Taylor. They're not going to be my favourite commentary team but at least now it is watchable, I hope they stay with this new approach and we get no more of the wowweee. Geelong were lucky to win in the end and still rely a lot on their experienced champions to get them through. Rivers has been good and has shown me what he could have been with us if he had a bit more support. A lot of his old brain fades don't seem to be happening at Geelong. He's taking good options and hitting up targets.
  3. He doesn't have the agility.
  4. Lead and hold your position Chris Dawes...
  5. You can't work out a players worth from stats alone. I suppose you were a Moloney and Silvia fan too 'Hogan'? He shares many similar traits, I'm talking on ground but come to think of it off field as well.
  6. If Dawes would make the right positions and lead up to the ball it would help.
  7. Yeah, Maxie really has to use his height better. Another year or so and he will nail McEvoy to the wall. JKH didn't think quickly enough on that one, to busy watching his own man and got run past within arms length. Depends on what the long term effect on Barry is and Roos would know, if he can stick it out I would leave him on Hill. He's struggled to get enough ball at Casey, watching how you go about it from Hill might be the making of him.
  8. Funny was thinking the same thing earlier today...but he is not half the player Pikey was. We could do with a Martin Pike now.
  9. Dawes leads up at the ball once and gets the ball on his chest. Chris for f..sake lead up to your teammates and stop wasting time and energy running around in circles on the forward line. You are giving us nothing, zero...
  10. Hasn't shown a lot, has he? Buntine looks good though...
  11. I would think they are more interested in players than picks at this stage. Maybe a high pick and a player and I'm pretty sure Watts isn't what they're after. You can't give away 2 picks, the price is too high unless we get another top 10 pick back. The Saints would trump us with Armitage I would think, yet to be seen if they would make that deal. The other thing is which club is Cameron's preferred.
  12. I wouldn't be giving away 2 picks for Cameron, that's a recipe for disaster.
  13. Sorry 'Pennant', can't agree with you on this one. He has too many Moloney like traits for me both off and on the field. Just bombs the ball forward without looking, also I think he does pick & choose his contests and isn't as hard as his image is portrayed.
  14. Will be surprised if it gets to court, I hope it does though.
  15. What is this comment based on? Col has never shown this sublime talent that you speak of all he has shown is that he is a very limited footballer who has a talent to kick and mark the ball, nothing else.
  16. The Cook situation occurred when we made the fatal error of picking for needs rather than best available. We wanted Lynch and GC grabbed him a pick earlier so we picked someone with similar physical attributes rather than the best player. Some on here still want us to go the same way. Agree on Scully and Toump, that was the conventional wisdom at the time. Only a Rendell, Wells or Bucky would have the runs on the board to make another call and they probably would have gone the same way. We will probably never know.
  17. We know he was touted but we don't know he was rated by everyone, certainly everyone making noise rated him. I would be interested to know where Rendell and Wells (2 of the more astute recruiters) rated him. These guys generally don't & won't say, cards close to chest but there is no doubt the conventional wisdom was Scully was the man also the same with Toumpas as a top 3. Not sure why GWS didn't take him though.
  18. Roos & a good rocket won't help Wellingham. Believe 'Pennant' on this one, I couldn't believe WC took him on after the problems they had in the recent past.
  19. ...but he must start leading to the player with the ball. Part of the reason our inside 50's are not up to scratch is because there is no one to kick it to, chicken and egg I know but Dawes must make more realistic attempts to provide an option. The games I've seen live he tends to want the ball over the back and when the teammate is around 50 away meaning they would have to kick it at least 60-65 mtrs and it's not going to happen. He needs confidence to take the game on and not just chase opponents all day.
  20. I think this is right. We will need to turnover the list again at years end, bring in some new kids, some in the 20's as 'Sat' suggests. Then if the right player comes along it would be strategic as you say. ...was. He's well past his best now so what level is he at. A good NEAFL player?? I like the idea of O'Keefe but I feel it may have passed him by.
  21. Would really like to have an experienced eye though 'nutbean'. How do you think it would be having say a Northey at the championships looking over the kids with a critical eye, might just bring up a few things others miss to go into the pot. I don't think it required any psychological testing to work out Garlett. Might need to test those on here who wanted him though.
  22. http://www.theage.com.au/afl/afl-news/dean-robinson-lists-17-subpoenas-in-fight-against-bombers-afl-20140804-100csk.html Going to be very interesting when he hits the witness stand young Robbo...
  23. Missed one from 5 mtrs out running into an open goal dead in front once. Had an excuse but the coach didn't want to know about it. Lucky we were about 10 goals up at the time.
  24. I'm on board here as well, nothing wrong with it and of course it was Roos that opened the discussion up. Gary doesn't want to talk about it and I get that we need to move on but he's had a big part in what has happened at the club so I take what he says with a grain of salt.
  25. This is not what was being discussed. There is no doubt recruiting is an inexact science the points being made are that some may try to make it more exact with stats over their own abilities to spot a good player. One of the things I always liked about the Geelong model was Wells had good old Bill McMaster in the background and probably still does. Can't beat an experienced eye.
