I think this is going to be key to our recovery...no recruiting decisions should be made until this happens either.
-
If this is true I hope Pert gets the review under way and makes appropriate changes to the FD before a dumb trade is made.

Tell Claudette Colvin and Rosa Parks, tell Ganhdi, tell Mandela that they should just keep towing the company line, be conciliatory and all would be fine....the world would soon come around to their way of thinking.

The first couple of minutes of today's game were close to a mirror of the prelim from last year. We had errant handballs and a total lack of system. The only difference in the games is that Collingwood failed to take full advantage & convert early on. No matter what Goody says & Jones says as he did tonight, they haven't adjusted the plan one little bit & that's a big concern. If they think they have tell 'em they're dreaming. Treloar basically said it post game, we knew what Melbourne would bring & we waited, adjusted, took advantage & ran them on the outside. Yeah we can win contested ball but because we have so many drawn into the contest to win it we have no one to give it to and we cough the ball up...and off they go. Within days of Reece Shaw taking over the North job there were obvious changes to the way they played so we can't use the it takes time excuse...but we do. If the coaches are coaching a different plan to what we're playing then we have an even bigger problem than I thought...the players are not listening, the coaches are not communicating. Looking at how we are playing the only thing I can deduce at this point in time is that Goody is not a good coach. From what I am seeing he is stubbornly sticking to a plan that just doesn't work, sticking with players/positions that aren't working, clutching at straws bringing in underdone players. The measure of him going forward will be his ability to reset & adjust. If he can do this rather than stubbornly stick to his current plan then I reckon he will turn the corner. I hope he has the currency (faith from the playing group) to pull it off, after a while he will be out of coin, it will be too late. Buckley & Hardwick pulled it off but it's not a given, if he's good listener, has the right council & we pull the right levers with new appointments then all's not lost. I truly hope this is the case as I couldn't take another coaching change. As we look at things now...is Goody a good coach? No. Very few are in their early years, they need to grow into the role. Will he be a good coach? I sure hope so. A few observations from my first post after the Port game. Max has really stood up, he's not allowing himself to be pushed around. He's back at the top of his game and a credit to himself. Just wish he would stop pushing the ball to the left in his set shots. Tommy Mac is done..for his own good & ours he needs time at Casey. Please...nothing has changed. Hibberd is still struggling, admittedly coming off the collar bone is not helping (rushed back/underdone) but he has been inconsistent and we're not using him well. Fritsch is treading water. I reckon Trac is on track, just not being used to his full potential. See forward set up... Weid needs to stay, he's our best bet forward but with Preuss as his foil & to relieve him of 2nd ruck duties, ...and who is the coach responsible for our forward structure???? the buck has to stop with Goody but why do we insist on this narrow funnel set up at centre bounces. It gives us nowhere to go but wide to no mans land. We get the ball in the middle & look up to 6 forwards & 6 backs all in the the same lane way & kick it there. Is it a wonder the ball rebounds so quickly. There's still a lack of passion & it showed out today. May & Lever will be gold but we paid overs for them. The list needs a lot of work I just hope we can conjure the currency to get us what we need. This year is the drop off year, the measure of the club, coach, FD & players is going to be how/if we bounce back. Expect a full review & some level of power to be taken out of Goody's hands. Everyone got ahead of themselves & changes will be made. I hope we get the right person to do the review, a real smart football operator who knows clubland & success backwards. What's Andrew Ireland doing in retirement, an old Roy boy maybe could do with a couple of months pocket money???? Worth a call Perty...

Jones will play on next year but step down as Captain. Goody made a poor decision in appointing Viney as a co captain too early in both his (Goody's) and Viney's career. Said so at the time and it's not hindsight it was a dumb novice coach captains call. Max is the obvious, Lever has real leadership...they would be my co captains. Jack needs to concentrate on getting himself fit & becoming a team first player not encumbered with the captaincy.

Petracca was good today...the only one who didn't fumble & looked poised with ball in hand.
-
...and some can't see the wood for the trees. By the way, as the Titanic was sinking there probably wouldn't have been a much better place than singing at the bar and having last drinks. I think we need to set Weid up as our key and use Pruess to crash and bash with Tommy heading back to Casey. We're top heavy with the 3 and Tommy's form doesn't warrant a game. If we get Weid one on one and put the ball to advantage then he is going to get his fair share.
-
Don't agree... I think we stick with Weid, was ok considering the quality of ball coming forward and lack of assistance with Petracca being the only other forward who looked like they could play. ...but please drop Tommy back to Casey. He's giving us nothing. Pruess can take his place.
-
May's body work on Cox today is what Oscar has to learn if he's to progress. Unfortunately he doesn't have the body strength or timing...let him spend some time at Casey developing & as depth. He hasn't played his last game & won't be delisted, maybe a trade but probably better to keep. Maybe we try him forward at Casey and see how he goes...
-
We've kicked 3 goals. Trac has one and responsible for another. Please yourself...
-
Frost is out for the game...concussion. We don't have the numbers to keep interchange up.
-
Weid has attacked the contest and at least done his job. Tommy Mac need to go back to Casey... Along with Trac, May is probably our best. Without him we would be at least 6 down. Needs to stay down back.
-
He's probably been our best player today. Again, probably our best today. He's been sure with his hands, taken good options and is our only forward that give the opposition 2nd thoughts.

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - CHARLIE SPARGO
rjay replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
I just don't think it's dong him any favours playing him in the AFL at this stage of his career. Time and getting a lot of ball at Casey, then let's see if he can step up. At the moment he's a liability but he's not on his own. -
Well, sometimes he can be a total dh. ...but at least he stood up to be counted against a lot of his own supporters. One thing Ross never lacked as a player was courage. He led when maybe someone from the AFL should have.

You keep saying this 'Matsuo' and I agree but how do you do it? You've not been able to answer apart from a motherhood statement...bring people together. The Obama speech you quoted earlier didn't help in their country. If anything race relations in the US under Trump are worse than they have been for a long time and as for the indigenous people there, well they've been decimated. At least we seem to be trying to do something. Maybe bringing the issue into the open helps, gets the issue on the table.
-
Come on 'Matsuo' surely you can do something better than that. That kind of vibe???
-
What would you have him say 'Matsuo'??? what could he have said that would have taken race relations forward and not kept the status quo at best? Put yourself in his position and give us an outline of the speech he should have made and the actions he should have taken.
-
Serious question 'Fork'. I've seen a lot of people talk of unite...what actions do you see he could have done or words he could have spoken to unite? When you see a divided country and your people downtrodden what do you do? what should you do? ....and what was the anti Australian rhetoric he used? This is his Australia day acceptance speech by the way...seems inclusive and uniting to me but maybe I'm not reading it right. “It’s an honour to win an award for doing stuff that you love and that you believe in. For me, I chose that life is all about actions and interactions. I believe that our choices and how we interact with each other creates our relationships and this in turn creates the environment that we live in. Our environment shapes our communities which then shapes the country that we all live in. Growing up as an indigenous Australian I have experienced my fair share of racism. While it has been difficult a lot of the time, it has also taught me a lot and also shaped my values and what I believe in today. I believe racism is a community issue which we all need to address and that’s why racism stops with me. There are always two ways we can look at a situation. We can choose to get angry. Or not. We can choose to help others. Or not. Or choose to be offended. Or not. We can keep our silence or educate ourselves and others about racism and minority populations. It is not just about taking responsibility for your own actions but speaking to your mates when they take out their anger on their loved ones, minority groups or make racist remarks. It means treating people the way you want to be treated, whether that’s your manners, the way you talk to people, whether they are your loved ones or the person serving your dinner. It’s about how you choose to give back and make a difference to those around you, your community or your country that goes outside of just yourself. I believe we are all connected whether we like it or not. We are all equal and the same in so many ways. My hope is that we as a nation can break down the silos between races, break down those stereotypes of minority populations, indigenous populations and all other minority groups. I hope we can be proud of our heritage regardless of the colour of our skin and be proud to be Australian. I’m not here to tell you what to think, or how to act to raise your children. All I’m here to do is tell you about my experiences and hope you choose to be aware of your actions and interactions so that together we can eliminate racism. I’m so grateful for this award and this honour, however the real reward is when everyone is talking to their mates, to their families and their children, having those conversations and educating others about racism. What it looks like, how hurtful and how pointless it is and how we can eliminate it. The ultimate reward is when all Australians see each other as equals and treat each other as equals. To me, everything is about people and the choices we make. I believe it’s the people and the interactions between us that makes this country so special. Thank you so much and have a great Australia Day.”

Come on mate, that's not an excuse for the booing that Goodes attracted. I hear the odd boo for Selwood and in some particular cases when he ducks for a free but not the systematic booing that Goodes got. There was much more to it.
-
Unfortunately Gill blows with the wind, and it's an ill wind blowing on the back of the Goodes doco's... I'm not sure he's ever stood up for anything unless the numbers stack up and to me that's not what a leader is. The AFL is rudderless under his tenure.

The world is a whole lot more complex than a Stallone movie 'Matsuo'... There are many shades and much nuance that goes into making a footballer let alone anyone else. That angry fullback Rance was involved in some new age soothsaying with the Tiges. They were lauded for their use of mindfulness. Those new age Tiges went on to win the flag. So honestly if you think sports psychology is summed up neatly by the "Rocky" franchise I think you might be barking up the wrong tree.
-
Sam looking a particularly sensitive soul in this video. Danger says hello 'Matsuo'... I think he has enough grunt & ability, just needs the consistency. That usually comes with games & experience.

Does he have the same ball drop in his field kicking? I'm not sure he does, but worth having a look at. If it's different then it should be easier to transfer his approach across...
-
Agree, and then watching the replays even without the front on camera you could see that there was absolutely no change in the rotation of the ball. If the ball had of hit the post you would have noticed a change in it's rotation...
