  1. It's also a lesson in how life can be so unfair at time. Delidio was sitting in the stands looking on.
  2. Yep on both counts mate. A very disappointing game that I thought was over by about the 5 minute mark of the first Q. It was pretty obvious Davis wasn't up to it in his first contest with Jack...that would not be a good look for his teammates to see the Captain make the wrong call on his fitness and put himself above the team. Also sort of hindsight here but if you are going to take a player in after an operation the last one would have to be Whitfield...not exactly the poster boy of tough and uncompromising...
  3. The irony of an advertisement for 8k TV... Yet 7 still won't show the game in 4k... I don't know about anyone else, I guess it doesn't matter that much but I'm struggling to see the game properly. ...and I've only had 1 beer. Maybe the answer is to have more...
  4. 2nd goal to Ray...what a shocking decision. No amount of explaining takes away incompetence....
  5. There's a touch of arrogance with the Tiges bringing in Pickett for his first game. No matter what the party line the 2 boys who were pulled from a GF last week must be feeling it. They not only didn't get to play in the GF, they didn't get to audition for a spot in the big one. Must ruffle some feathers. If GWS have them covered at half time I think they (GWS) will run away with it. Richmond let teams get head starts and they have a belief in their ability to run them over. One day they are not going to come back. I hope it's this one...
  6. Maybe, but when you are setting goals words are important. I would like to see are chiefs put their pills on the line and not just make a motherhood statement like challenging...
  7. GC were given similar.... A tale of 2 clubs, early times it looked like GC would be the golden boys and GWS the poor cousins. Despite the gifts they were given they have done it well and set themselves up for the longer burn whereas GC tried for the quicker success. ...and they now play a tough uncompromising brand of footy. I take my hat off to Cameron for what he's done with the list, a list that has struggled with injury this year.
  8. If he's looking at a coaching career it wouldn't hurt us to have a look for the same reasons...
  9. ...and that's why they got rid of the zones in the first place. It's such a retrograde and stupid move that only someone like Gill would oversee it.
  10. Cheap, but not so sure that some of it is so solid...
  11. Of the 2nd worst team in the competition...our depth is not a strong suit.
  12. Chandler won't make it, neither will Baker, undecided on Dunkley and Lockhart maybe good depth. Nothing pleasing there for me, very underwhelming...
  13. Are we thinking of him as a replacement for Jeffy?
  14. Can you read 'SWYL'? Or do you only see what you want and make up the rest. There is no way in any post I have written this season that would indicate I think Jones & Viney were great in 2019. In fact I've stated numerous times that both should not be Captains next year and you've liked those posts, so I'm guessing you've read & agree. I don't think they are a major reason we crashed though, there was not just one thing. A major one for me is that the list is not as good as many thought. We're working to build it and make it better but this season shows we are not there yet...
  15. Yep, and he's the one we need...
  16. Yep, and when the club sent out the email to supporters about the coming forum the letter from the Prez & CEO stated we wanted to be up there and challenging for a Premiership consistently. Only words but they should really have committed to winning the thing not just challenging...
  17. Amazing 'SWYL'...nowhere did I say I don't value leadership and I've often stated I don't think Viney is the man to lead the club forward. ...but what is more amazing is that you seem to want to use the Brownlow votes as an indication of the leadership of the club yet you don't seem to want to use the AFL ladder as the means to value the list. The AFL ladder says we are 17th, that says we are not very good. It's a pretty definitive result whichever way you want to slice it. In 2019 we weren't good enough to finish higher than 17th, that's why we finished 17th...
  18. 'Wayne', you've made a good point re the metric of the Brownlow not being a good indicator of whether or not someone should be captain. I agree with you on this. However I don't think Viney is anything like Selwood as a captain. On ground I can see some similarities but off ground they are poles apart. Personally I would rather Viney step down and concentrate on playing. Nathan won't be Captain next season.
  19. I'm not sure they're defending the captains, they just don't see this as the correct metric to evaluate them and that's fair. This list shows why...
  20. Thanks for upsetting me 'Red'...
  21. No, that's fluff...
  22. This is the one thing I don't agree with you on 'Macca'... The way the draft and salary cap is set it's definitely not easy to get your base talent from trading. In fact I would say it's impossible with the current rules. No one said there wasn't luck involved but you need to draft well and have a reasonable hit rate. Father/son picks also don't hurt.
  23. Hang on there big fella.... I think you're jumping the gun a bit on the my way, or unhealthy obsession or don't want to know about it. As I pointed out the Richmond flag if they get it this year may be the first of the real traded flags. As far as waiting for a player to mature, some come in and have an immediate effect some take longer. Some traded players like Lever & May get injured and take a year or 2 to settle also. A lot of luck goes into trade as well as the draft. Nothing is right or wrong. ...but I do think you get your base talent from the draft then add to that with FA and trade.
  24. 'Macca', the Hawthorn & Geelong flags were built on the back of the draft. That's where their real talent came from. The last Collingwood one was on the back of the draft as was the WC flag. This Richmond one may be the first you could argue was built on trade/FA... ...but even the backbone of the Richmond team is built on the draft. Both Geelong and Hawthorn have tried to trade into a flag as their great teams aged but so far have had limited success and no flag to show. I reckon we went a year early on trading talent with Lever and should have gone back to the draft, we over rated the list. We will end up a middle rung team around where Hawthorn/Geelong are now at best unless we can bring in some real talent with this draft along with some FA's...and the odd good trade.
